The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat for Domes (Rincon). We’ve got a solid run of tiny, weak surf with almost no energy behind it. The long-range picture shows a few flickers of life, but nothing that’s gonna get your heart racing.
We’re kickin’ off on Tuesday morning, July 14th, with the smallest of swells. Domes is seeing a little 0.7ft wave from the NNE, but with a period of just 10 seconds and combined energy of only (22), it’s barely a ripple. The wind is glassy, which is a beautiful thing, but there’s just not enough water moving to make it worthwhile. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing to write home about.
This flat spell is gonna drag on. Wednesday the 15th through to Sunday the 26th of July is a long stretch of nothing. We’re talking days and days of poor surf conditions, with wave heights mostly under 2ft and combined energy levels stuck in the low double digits – often well under 30. You’ll see some glassy mornings, like Sunday the 19th and Tuesday the 21st, which is a tease. The wind will be light and clean occasionally, but the swell just isn’t there. It’s a real bummer.
The only glimmer on the horizon comes at the tail end of the forecast. Tuesday, July 28th, the afternoon shows a bit of a pulse. We’re looking at 3ft from the NE with a period of 6 seconds and combined energy climbing to (72). It’s not big, but it’s the most energy we’ve seen in the whole run. The wind is offshore from the E, so it’ll be clean. For a point break like Domes, which is exposed to the NNW, this NE swell isn’t quite the right direction, but it’s the best we’ve got. Late July is starting to look a little more promising, but it’s a long way off.
Bottom line: save your energy for the last few days of the month. The first two and a half weeks are a write-off.
Rusty.
