Table - best surf conditions forecast for Domes (Rincon) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on offer for Domes over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you—it’s a pretty quiet stretch ahead, but we'll dig into the details.
Overall, the pattern is for small, weak swell and a lot of average conditions. The first real chance of anything surfable doesn't show up until Friday afternoon, July 10th. Before that, we've got a few days of tiny, messy waves. Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are a write-off. Morning sessions are cross-shore and choppy, and while afternoons clean up a bit, the swell is just too weak and short-period to get excited about.
Friday afternoon, the 10th, is where it finally becomes rideable. We get a 4ft swell from the NE, with a short period of 7 seconds, and combined energy hitting 144 (moderate). The wind goes light cross-offshore, so it should be clean. The waves will be ordinary, but at least you can get a few. Saturday and Sunday, the 11th and 12th of July, the swell completely drops out. We're talking ankle-snappers for the whole weekend. Not worth paddling out.
Monday morning the 13th is a real tease. There's glassy conditions with a tiny 0.7ft NNE groundswell, a longer period of 11 seconds, but the energy is just 16 (weak). It'll be clean and pretty, but you'll be fighting for scraps. After that, we've got a long dry spell. From Tuesday the 14th right through to Saturday the 18th, it's mostly poor surf, tiny swell, or strong onshore winds. Friday the 17th has a bit of NE swell (3ft, 7 seconds, 79 energy) but it's cross-shore and messy.
The standout—and I use that term loosely—is Saturday morning, July 18th. Early, we get a clean, glassy session with a 4ft NE swell. It's still a short 6-second period, but 98 units of energy is the most we've seen in a while. It's surfable. However, by the afternoon, the swell vanishes entirely. After that, the second week (from the 19th onwards) is a total bust. Tiny waves, mostly flat with short-period slop, even with some glassy mornings. It’s not going to get good.
So, here's the nutshell: the only window that's remotely worth your time is Friday afternoon, July 10th, and maybe a very early session on Saturday the 18th. For the rest, I'd save your wax. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on. Don't expect crowds at Domes with conditions this poor.
The waves are so small and weak for most of the run that the setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer on the breezier afternoons.
Stay patient, check the charts in a few days, but for now, keep the board in the car.
