The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s happening at Domes (Rincon) for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is looking flat and pretty sad. We’re talking about a long stretch of small, weak surf with barely any energy to get excited about. The first few days are particularly grim, with the combined swell energy barely cracking double digits (15) on Wednesday the 15th, and it doesn't get much better from there. It’s a real desert out there.
We do see a tiny blip of hope on Saturday the 18th afternoon, where the swell bumps up to 4ft from the NE, but with a short period of 5 seconds and a combined energy of only (60), it’s more of a mushy bump than a real wave. The winds are a bit messy too, with a cross-shore chop. Not ideal.
Then again on Monday the 20th afternoon, there’s a similar pulse of 3ft NE swell, but again, short period and a cross-chop ruin the party. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The best bet in this whole bleak forecast is actually a couple of the glassy mornings. If you’re desperate for a splash, the mornings of Saturday the 18th, Sunday the 19th, and Tuesday the 21st offer some clean, glassy conditions. The swell is tiny though – 1ft to 2ft from the NE, with weak energy (13 to 33). It’s a beginner-friendly wave at a point break, but only if you’re on a longboard and don’t mind paddling for nothing. The crowds are often here, so even for these tiny waves, expect company.
In short, there’s no standout swell. The entire forecast is a long stretch of poor surf. For a point break, we need a proper groundswell to get it working, and we just aren’t seeing one. It’s a blank run, plain and simple. Keep your gear waxed and hope the next forecast brings something better.
Rusty.
