Table - best surf conditions forecast for Domes (Rincon) over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about Domes (Rincon). I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty lean. There’s a real dry spell for decent surf, with a big gap of nothing much happening for the first several days. The water’s warm, around 84°, which is a touch above average for the season, so you’ll be comfortable in just boardshorts.
From Wednesday the 8th through the first week, it’s mostly flat and weak. The combined swell energy is mostly in the low double digits (60, 41, 56, etc.), and the swell period is short, generally 6-8 seconds, meaning the waves are weak and disorganised. Winds are a mix – some cross-off, some glassy – but the swell just isn’t there to make it worthwhile.
There’s a slight bright spot on Friday the 10th afternoon. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the NE, with a period of 7 seconds, and the wind goes light offshore from the SSE, leaving the surface clean. The combined energy hits 121 (moderate). It’s not a standout, but it’s the most surfable window in the first week. For a beginner, that 4ft is manageable, but the short period means it’ll be a bit soft. Crowds are often here, so you won’t be alone.
The second week stays pretty quiet. There’s a little push on the 21st and 22nd, with swell around 3ft from the NE, period 6-7 seconds, and combined energy up to 93. Winds are cross-off from the ENE, so the surface will be clean. But even then, the waves are small and weak. Nothing to write home about.
If you’re a beginner, this is a tough stretch. The biggest swell we see is only 4ft, and that’s on the 9th with poor conditions. The best bet is Friday the 10th afternoon for a few clean, modest waves, or maybe the 21st and 22nd for some clean but small surf. For the experienced surfer, there’s really nothing here that’s worth paddling out for. The setup is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer on those afternoons with a bit of wind and a cross-off breeze.
This is a period where the forecast can change, and it usually doesn’t stay this flat for long. But right now, the outlook is pretty grim.
Rusty.
