Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Howdy, Rusty again. Let’s be real – it’s looking flat and slow all around for the next couple weeks. We’ve got a whole lot of nothing coming our way, so you might want to plan for something else.
The water’s warm at 29°, which is about what you’d expect for this time of year at Domes (Rincon). Don't expect anything rideable for the first week. From Friday 3rd July straight through to Wednesday 8th July, it’s a total washout. The swell is mostly under 3 ft, coming from the NE, with the combined swell energy topping out at just 58 (weak) on the best afternoons. It’s a real bummer.
We get a little glimmer of hope on Thursday 9th July afternoon. The swell picks up to about 4 ft from the NE, with a 6-second period and moderate wave energy (100). The real good news is the clean, offshore wind from the SSE. That means you might find a few clean, little crumbly waves if you’re patient. That’s the best it gets, but it’s still nothing to write home about. After that, it’s right back to the doldrums through the weekend and into next Monday.
The second week is even sleepier. From Monday 13th July through Saturday 18th July, the swell barely gets back to 4 ft, with longer periods (up to 12 seconds) but very low energy. The winds look okay – often glassy or clean cross-off – but there’s just no push behind the swell to make it worth the paddle. The strong winds on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th July (up to 18 mph) will trash it for surfing anyway, and honestly, a kite surfer might have more fun than a paddle surfer out there.
Bottom line: for the next 16 days, there is no standout session. The only one worth a mention is that Thursday 9th July afternoon if you just need to get wet. Otherwise, keep the stick in the truck. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
Stay patient,
Rusty
