Table - best surf conditions forecast for Domes (Rincon) over the next 16 days.
Alright, let me take a look at what we’ve got for the next couple of weeks around here. To be straight with you, it’s a tough stretch. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with next to nothing happening. The first real hint of any surfable waves doesn’t show up until Sunday the 19th of July, and even then it’s not exactly going to have you calling in sick to work.
The main spot on my radar is Domes (Rincon). It’s a consistent point break, which is a good thing, but for almost the entire forecast period it’s just flat or tiny. The water temp is sitting at 84°, which is about average for this time of year, so the lagoon is warm even if the waves aren’t playing ball.
Let’s run through it. From now right through until Saturday the 18th of July, every session is scored as poor surf conditions. We’re talking ankle-snappers and knee-high ripples at best, with swell heights mostly between 0.7 ft and 2 ft. The swell energy is weak, usually sitting well under 100 (the combined energy is a measly 9 to 59 on most days). The wind is all over the place – mornings offer some glassy or light offshore moments, but the afternoons get chopped up by cross-shore breezes. It’s just not happening. That’s over a week of nothing worth paddling out for.
Then, finally, on Sunday the 19th of July, we get a little pulse. The afternoon brings the first surfable waves, with the swell bumping up to 4 ft from the NE, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy finally breaks triple digits at 101 (moderate). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the east, keeping things clean. Look, it’s still ordinary conditions – the waves won’t be anything special, but after a week of flatness, you might find a few crumbly, waist-high runners on the point. The period is short, so don’t expect any real power or long walls, just mushy, fun little lines.
After that, it’s back to the doldrums. The rest of the run through to Monday the 27th of July is mostly flat or tiny again, with occasional 1 ft to 2 ft dribblers and weak energy readings. There are a few glassy mornings in there (like Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd), but with no swell to work with, it’s just a smooth, flat ocean.
So, what’s the standout? Honestly, the only game in town is that Sunday afternoon on the 19th of July at Domes. It’s the only window where you’re likely to get a wave under your feet. The wind will be kind, and the swell will be just big enough to be fun for a beginner. For anyone else, it’s a long wait for a very slim pickin’s. Keep the board waxed, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
