The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty grim out there for a wave. For the next 16 days, the pickings are real slim. We got Domes (Rincon) as the only spot on the map, and honestly, it’s a flat spell.
The water’s sittin’ at about 85°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing out of the ordinary.
We’ve got a long, quiet stretch ahead. From now, basically Friday the 21st of August, all the way through to Friday the 28th of August, you’ll mostly see tiny waves with hardly any energy behind them. Most of the time the combined energy is barely tickin’ over, like that 2 to 18 mark – weak stuff. The winds are all over the shop, but it doesn’t matter because there’s no swell to work with.
Now, there is a little blip on Saturday the 29th of August. The morning shows a bump to 3 ft from the NE, with a bit more energy (113). Then in the afternoon, the swell jumps to 7 ft from the ENE, with a hefty combined energy of 368, but the period is a short 6 seconds – that’s gonna be a messy, choppy mess. The wind is cross-on from the N, making it look like more of a kite-surfing session than a paddle session. This is expert-only territory, and even then, it’s gonna be a battle. It’s a real "marginal" call.
After that, we sink back into flatland. The rest of the run into early September shows tiny, weak pulses and mostly onshore or cross-off breezes. For a spot that’s usually consistent, it’s a tough run. The only real "surfable" moment is Friday morning the 28th of August, with a glassy 1 ft wave, but it’s so small it’s barely a ripple. Honestly, lads, park the boards for a while. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about.
Rusty.
