Alright, let’s look at what’s cookin’. Honestly, it’s pretty flat. Over these next sixteen days at Domes, the surf is just not happening. There aren’t any real standout days that get my blood pumping – nothing’s really firing. The wave energy across the whole period is real weak, with combined energy numbers mostly in the teens, twenties, or low fifties – that’s well under 100, meaning it’s a super low-energy stretch. We’re talkin’ small, weak swells, and the wind, while light sometimes, is often side-shore or side-onshore, so it won’t help the little bumps we get.
There’s a big gap of several days with no real surf to recommend. Most of the first week and a half is tiny. The water temp is about 84°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – about 2°F above average – so the water’s nice and warm, but the waves just aren’t showin’ up.
The only little window that might give you a sliver of hope is around July 18th. On Saturday afternoon the 18th, there’s a pulse of 4ft swell from the NE, with a period of 6 seconds – that’s short-period, windswell, not a groundswell. The combined energy is 94, so it’s still weak. The wind is a gentle side-shore, so it won’t be glassy, but it might be rideable for a beginner. On the morning of the 19th, we get a little side-shore wind and a bit of energy, but it’s still small. The 21st and 22nd show glassy conditions but with tiny waves – just not worth paddling out for.
If the swell picks up, even a little, and the wind stays light, Domes might get a few fun ones, but right now, there’s nothing in this window that I’d call a standout. For a beginner-friendly point break that’s usually consistent, this is an unusually flat spell. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, it’s a tough run.
Alright, keep your eyes on the horizon. Maybe next time.
Rusty.
