Table - best surf conditions forecast for Domes (Rincon) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for the Rincon area.
Straight up, this is a tough run. We’re looking at a 16-day window that’s pretty much a write-off for any decent surf. The first real glimmer of something surfable doesn’t pop up until Friday the 10th of July, and even then, it’s a long way from perfect. You’ll be waiting a good few days from the start of the period for anything worth paddling out for.
The only spot on the cards is Domes (Rincon). It’s a consistent point break, good for beginners, but it’s gonna be a battle with the conditions. The swell energy is predominantly weak, with most readings under 100, barely scraping into the moderate range on a couple of afternoons. The combined energy of all swells directed here tops out at around 163 at best, which is on the low end of moderate.
Let’s walk through it. The first few days are a complete bust. Thursday the 9th is a no-go with poor surf and a cross-shore wind. Friday the 10th isn’t looking much better in the morning, but the afternoon is where it gets interesting. The wind drops to glassy, calm conditions, and we get a tiny 4 ft NE swell. That’s the only real standout on offer. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. Still, a glassy afternoon at Domes is a chance to get wet. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing weird there.
After that, it’s a whole lot of nothing. Saturday the 11th through to the end of July is a flat spell. We see a few spikes of 3 ft to 4 ft, but the wind is always a problem – cross, cross-on, or a moderate breeze chopping it up. The swell period is short, mostly 6-8 seconds, so no real energy or shape. Even the longer period 13-second swell on Saturday the 11th is tiny, a 0.3 ft N windswell that’s barely a ripple. The combined energy readings are all in the weak zone, often in the single digits. It’s a bleak run for paddle surfing.
Honestly, for most of this period, the setup here looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The consistent wind and small, messy waves are a better match for a kite than a surfboard.
Keep your hopes low for the next couple of weeks. It tends not to stay this poor for long, but this is a blank run that’s pretty normal for the area when the swell windows are closed. Forecasts can change, but for now, we’re in a waiting game.
Rusty.
