The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
We’re looking at a pretty quiet stretch ahead for Domes (Rincon). The water is sitting at 84°, which is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there. The big picture: we’ve got a long run of tiny, weak swell with pretty poor conditions. The first week is basically a write-off for anything decent. From Thursday the 16th right through to Wednesday the 22nd, it’s all poor surf with very little energy—the combined energy of all swells directed here is mostly under 50 (weak) and the heights are barely pushing 2 ft. You’ll be fighting for dribbles.
There’s a real gap here. You won’t see anything worth mentioning until Thursday the 23rd, and even then it’s just “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” The best of the whole period, and the only thing I’d call a standout, is the morning of Saturday the 25th. That’s when we get a bit of a lift: 3 ft from the NE, with a period of 7 seconds, a combined energy of 64 (still weak, but it’s the best we’ve got), and glassy conditions with zero wind. It’s a small, clean wave for the true beginners out there, but don’t expect any power. Crowds are often a thing at Domes, so expect company.
Also worth a look is the morning of Friday the 31st, still small at 3 ft from the NE, but with clean offshore vibes from the ENE at 3 mph and a combined energy of 67. It’s another small window of okay surf after a long dry spell.
Overall, this is a pretty flat and unexciting 16 days. If you’re desperate for a paddle, Saturday the 25th morning is your best bet. Otherwise, keep the board in the bag.
Rusty.
