The Lowdown
Right, I’ll level with you, it’s been a tough stretch here at Cochino (Playa de Levittown). The finder is drawing a blank for the full 16-day window – not a single recommendation. That’s a tough pill to swallow, but it’s not unheard of for this spot. It’s a sheltered, rarely breaks beginner wave, and when the conditions line up, it’s magic for learning. Right now, though, they just aren’t lining up.
The whole period is a write-off for anything worth paddling out for. The guidance shows the break is sheltered and rarely breaks, which is exactly what we’re seeing. The swell is tiny for the first week, with heights barely cracking 3 ft, and it’s all short-period windswell (5 to 8 seconds). The wind is a constant cross-onshore, keeping things choppy and messy. The combined swell energy is weak, mostly in the 50s to low 100s (57 to 117), which barely registers.
There is a spike of energy on the 25th of August, with a 8 ft swell from the ENE, but the wave comment is still “poor surf conditions”. The combined energy hits 965, which is strong, but the wind is onshore and the period is still a short 8 seconds. That’s a lot of bumpy, blown-out water. For a beginner break, that’s a hard pass. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing to write home about.
The rest of the run into early September is more of the same – small, weak, and messy. On the 31st of August, we get a brief moment of glassy conditions in the afternoon, with a 3 ft swell, but it’s a tiny window and the overall energy is still low (119). The period on the 1st of September bumps up to 11 seconds, suggesting a bit more groundswell character, but the swell height is only 1 ft to 2 ft. It’s just not enough to get excited about.
Honestly, there’s nothing here for a surfer. If you’re dead set on getting wet, the setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer during that 25th of August bump. But for a surfboard? Leave it at home. The forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a long, flat blank run.
