Table - best surf conditions forecast for Catherine Hill Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's take a look at what's coming up for Catherine Hill Bay.
First off, the immediate outlook isn't much to write home about. We're looking at a run of pretty flat and wind-affected days to kick things off. From Saturday the 11th, the surf is hanging around 3ft from the ESE, but there's a cross-off breeze that's making it clean enough. The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is bang on average for this time of year. The real issue is that from Sunday the 12th right through to Tuesday the 14th, the swell just drops away. You're looking at tiny 0.7ft to 2ft walls with clean offshore winds, but there's simply no push. The energy is weak (7 to 58), so it's a flat spell.
There's a bit of a pulse on Wednesday the 15th morning, with 4ft from the south, but the cross-off wind keeps it tidy. The combined energy is moderate (286). That afternoon, it jumps up to 8ft from the south, but the wind swings cross-shore, and the energy spikes to strong (1109). That's a lot of water moving, but the cross-chop and period of only 10 seconds mean it's messy. Thursday the 16th morning offers 6ft from the SSE and a clean cross-off wind, but it's still a bit raw. The energy is moderate (513). After that, we get a run of poor conditions through to the end of the week.
Now, the real standout is Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st. This is the best on offer. On Monday morning, we've got a solid 7ft wave from the east, with a period of 11 seconds – that's proper groundswell. The wind is offshore from the NW at 12 mph, meaning clean, lined-up faces. The combined energy is strong (1163). This is an expert-level swell, but the conditions are set up perfectly for experienced surfers. The break itself is a breakwater, so it can handle the power. The crowds are sometimes a factor, but on a Monday morning, you might luck out. The swell direction of east matches the optimum ESE direction, so it's working well.
Tuesday the 21st morning is even better on paper. 8ft of east swell, again 11-second period, light offshore cross-off wind from the SW. The energy is very strong (1501). The afternoon gets a bit bigger with a 13-second period, but the wind shifts cross-shore, putting a bit of a wobble on it. Still, the morning is the pick.
Later in the week, Thursday the 23rd afternoon is a beauty. The wind goes glassy, flat calm, with a 8ft swell from the south. The energy is massive (2102), but with that glassy surface, it'll be a dream for the experienced crew. The period is 9 seconds, so it's a bit shorter, but the lack of wind makes up for it.
For the rest of the second week, it's a mixed bag. Friday the 24th morning has a 5ft swell from the SE with a very long 13-second period, clean and offshore. The energy is strong (1373). That long period will make for some long, clean lines on the breakwater. The afternoon gets a bit heavy with 10ft from the SE, but the cross-on wind makes it a bit unwieldy. The weekend of the 25th and 26th sees the swell drop back down to more manageable 3ft to 6ft, with clean mornings but cross-on afternoons.
Overall, the standout is the Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st mornings. Big east swell, clean offshore winds, and plenty of energy. If you're looking for a session, that's your window. The rest of the run is either flat, messy, or for the experts only.
Rusty.
