Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Camel Rock’s got cookin’. The swell's trying to show up, but honestly, for a solid run, we’re looking at a bit of a wait. The early part of the week is messy and not really worth paddling out for.
So, starting off, the first few days aren't giving us anything to work with. Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th of July, the surf is poor with a light cross-onshore breeze messing things up. The swell is around 5.2ft to 6.2ft from the NW, period is short, around 7 to 8 seconds, and the energy is moderate (330 to 549). Not a good look.
Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th are still rough. We get a bit more size – 7.2ft on Sunday morning and 6.9ft on Monday morning – with moderate wave energy (779 to 934), but it’s still borderline quality at best. The wind is light, but it's onshore or cross-onshore, so it’s not clean. This is really for the die-hards only, and even then, it’s a struggle.
After that, the swell drops way off. Tuesday the 7th through Thursday the 9th of July, the swell is tiny (1.6ft to 2.3ft) and coming from the SW with very long periods of 18-20 seconds. That’s a lot of energy (460 to 558) for such small waves, and it’s still cross-onshore. Not worth your time.
The real action doesn’t start to show until the second week. We get a bit of a pulse on Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th of July, with waves around 5.9ft to 6.2ft from the NW, but the wind is still cross-onshore, keeping the quality low. The energy is moderate (549 to 613). It’s a “maybe” for the patient local.
The standout window is shaping up to be from Tuesday the 14th of July through to Friday the 17th of July. We’re seeing a consistent run of NW swell, around 5.9ft to 6.9ft. The period is short, 8 to 9 seconds, but the energy is picking up, getting into strong territory (670 to 857). The wind is light cross-onshore for most of it. It’s not perfect, but it’s the most consistent offer in this outlook. For a sandbar break, a bit of size from the NW with light wind can still be fun. This is the best option for a surfer who’s keen for a session, especially if you can find a little bank.
Further out, on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th of July, the swell drops again (2.3ft to 2.6ft) but comes from the WNW with a very long period of 16 seconds. The energy is still high (637 to 733), which is interesting for such a small wave. With the wind turning straight onshore from the WNW on Friday morning, it might be a long wait for a clean one, but that groundswell could wrap a little different.
Overall, there’s no screaming stand-out day here. The best bet is the middle of that second week, Tuesday the 14th to Thursday the 16th of July. The swell is consistent in size, and the light wind will be the best we get. It’s a sandbar, so if you find a good wedge, you’ll be smiling. Just don’t expect perfection. The water temperature is about average for this time of year.
