Table - best surf conditions forecast for Camel Rock over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Camel Rock.
Honestly, the next week and a half looks pretty grim for a proper paddle. We’ve got a constant cross-onshore breeze messing up the face, and the swell is mostly short-period windswell that just won’t line up. For the first several days, it’s all poor surf conditions—choppy, lumpy, and not worth the effort. The wave energy is moderate at best, hovering around 672 to 736 (combined energy), but it’s messy.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Thursday, July 16th. The swell picks up to 7ft from the NW with a short 8-second period, and the energy jumps to 950 (combined energy). That’s a big jump, but it’s still a cross-onshore wind, so it’ll be lumpy. This is getting into expert territory for size, so if you’re a beginner, stay well clear.
Then, on Friday, July 17th, we get a proper offshore wind from the west at just 3 mph. The swell is 7ft from the NW, still short-period, but that clean glassy surface will make a huge difference. The energy is strong at 1050 (combined energy). This is the standout period. For a sandbar that’s consistent and fairly exposed to the WNW, having that light offshore wind is a major positive. It’ll be clean, but it’s big—only for the experienced crew.
After that, Saturday, July 18th, offers a different vibe. The swell drops to 3ft, but it’s a long-period groundswell from the WNW at 16 seconds. The energy is still strong at 903 (combined energy). The wind is light offshore from the WNW again. This is a great window for a point break or reef, but at a sandbar like Camel Rock, a long-period swell like that can break a bit too straight and fast. Still, the clean conditions make it a decent option for a smaller board.
So, the best on offer is Friday, July 17th morning: big, clean, and offshore. Second best is Saturday, July 18th morning: smaller, cleaner, but that long period might make it tricky at the sandbar. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, so you might have some company on those clean days.
The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
Keep in mind, after the 18th, the surf drops off again into poor conditions, so don’t sleep on that Friday and Saturday window.
Rusty.
