The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into what’s shaping up for the next couple of weeks.
Overall, the outlook for Seaside Creek is a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got a spell of solid swell coming through, but the direction and the size might not be your friend here. The best bet looks like a window around the weekend of the 9th and 10th, but you’ll need to pick your moment carefully.
Right now, starting Thursday the 6th into Friday the 7th, it’s pretty flat and messy. Small, weak swell around 2 ft from the SW with a long period of 13-19 seconds, but the wind is cross-onshore, so it’s not offering much. The combined energy is weak, between 154 and 251 – not worth paddling out for.
Things kick up a notch on Saturday the 8th. The morning is still small at 2 ft, but by Saturday afternoon, a new NW swell starts to fill in at 8 ft. The period drops to 8 seconds, so it’s a short-period, windswell-looking thing. The combined energy (949) is moderate. Still, there’s a cross-onshore wind, so it’s not clean.
Sunday the 9th is where it gets interesting. Morning sees 8 ft of NW swell (9 seconds), and the energy climbs to 1141. But the standout is Sunday afternoon. The swell jumps to 10 ft from the NW, with energy hitting a strong 1480. The wind is light and cross-onshore, but the forecast warns it’s simply too big for this break. The water temp is about 57°, which is normal for the time of year.
Monday the 10th is still hefty, with 8 ft of NW swell and moderate energy (1337-1752). The wind goes light offshore in the afternoon, which is a major positive. The period is still 9 seconds, so it’s a punchy, short-period swell. This is the best window for experts who know the bank. It’s going to be powerful and a bit raw, but that offshore wind will make it clean.
The rest of the week from Tuesday the 11th through to the 14th, the swell holds at 8 ft to 5 ft, but the wind stays mostly cross-onshore, and the energy is moderate. The quality is marginal. By the 15th, the swell drops back to 3 ft from the SSW with a much longer period of 16-17 seconds. That’s a groundswell, but it’s small, and the wind is onshore again.
The second week, from the 16th to the 21st, looks pretty quiet. Small waves, 2 ft to 4 ft, with that long-period SSW swell, but the wind is often cross-onshore or onshore, and the energy stays weak to moderate. The last few days of the run are a write-off, with poor surf conditions and only 2 ft to 3 ft of swell. The 17th has some moderate wind, making it messy.
The true standout here is Monday the 10th afternoon. That 8 ft NW swell, with light offshore wind, will be the cleanest, most powerful wave of the window. But be warned, Seaside Creek is an inconsistent spot, and with that size, it’s only for experienced surfers. The Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon of the 8th and 9th are also worth a look, but the wind and size are less ideal.
Rusty.
