Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ibiza - Cala Nova over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for a certain little corner of the Med.
We’re looking at a 16-day window that’s mostly a quiet affair. The overall pattern is... well, pretty flat. There’s a lot of small, weak swell and some unfriendly wind directions. Don't expect any world-class sessions. The most promising moments are tucked away in the second week.
Let’s start from the beginning. The first recommendation kicks off on Saturday 11 July, but there’s nothing to ride. The surf stays poor right through the first week. The combined wave energy is in the low double digits, barely a ripple. The highest energy in this whole stretch is 46 on Monday 13 July, but that's still weak, and it's coming with onshore wind.
Ibiza - Cala Nova is the spot. It’s a beach and reef setup, exposed to the SE swell, but the winds just don't play ball. We get some glassy conditions on the morning of Tuesday 14 July with a tiny 1 ft swell from the ESE, but it’s basically lake conditions. The water temperature is about average for this time of year.
Towards the end of the first week we start seeing a few cleaner wind slots, but still with minimal swell. The morning of Friday 17 July has a light offshore from the NNW and a 1 ft SE swell, and the afternoon goes cross-off with 0.7 ft. Clean, but nothing to get out of bed for.
The second week, starting Monday 20 July, sees the energy levels tick up a notch. Combined energy hits 25 on Monday morning and 21 on Monday afternoon. The swell is still small, around 3 ft from the ENE, and the wind is cross-onshore, so it won't be pristine. Tuesday 21 July afternoon cleans up with a cross-off breeze and a 1 ft NE swell. Wednesday 22 July morning has a clean cross-off wind, and by the afternoon it goes glassy with a 1 ft SE swell. Thursday 23 July morning is glassy again with a 1 ft SE swell. All small, but clean.
If I had to pick a standout from this quiet spell, I'd say keep an eye on Wednesday 22 July afternoon and Thursday 23 July morning. The winds turn glassy – a massive plus for clean conditions – with a small 1 ft SE swell. It’s not going to be big, but it’ll be the most user-friendly the wave gets. The combined energy is a weak 12 and 5, so don't expect power, but it’s the best of a flat lot. For a beginner spot, these glassy, tiny days are as good as it gets. Crowds are ‘sometimes’ a thing here.
Friday 24 July morning is also clean with a light cross-off wind and a 1 ft SE swell. Combined swell energy is a paltry 43 on Saturday 25 July morning, with the swell from the SE at 3 ft and a 6-second period. But the cross-onshore wind messes it up.
The long-range period – around Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July – has a bit more energy, but the wind and direction aren't aligned for clean surf. The 3 ft SE swell on the 25th morning is the biggest we see, but the wind is cross-onshore.
So, bottom line? Pick your times for clean, small windows and manage expectations. The best is glassy, knee-high slop.
Rusty.
