Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ibiza - Cala Nova over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
Well, honestly, this is looking like a rough stretch for Ibiza – Cala Nova. I've been staring at the charts and there's not a single day in the next 16 days that I'd call good. We've got a long, flat spell ahead. For an open spot like this, it's just one of those times when the ocean goes quiet. Don't get too down though; with these exposed Mediterranean beaches, it doesn't stay flat forever.
The whole first week is a write-off. From the 8th through the 12th, we're looking at tiny swell – we're talking 0.7ft to 1.0ft at best, with periods so short (2 to 6 seconds) they're barely waves. The wind is messy, mostly cross or cross-onshore, and even when it goes clean like on Saturday the 11th morning with a light NNE cross-offshore breeze, there's just no swell to work with. The combined wave energy is pitiful, barely scraping single digits (1 to 6). You'd be sitting on a board in flat water.
The second week doesn't save us. We finally see a pulse of swell around Monday the 14th, with a 3ft swell from the ESE, a period of 5 seconds, and the combined energy creeps up to 37 to 41. It's something, but the period is short and the wind is either cross or cross-on, which will just chop it up. That pattern sticks around – Tuesday the 15th morning looks glassy with a 1ft ESE swell (energy of 12), which is a tease of clean conditions on a tiny wave. Nothing ever breaks the 3ft mark until the very end.
Around Sunday the 19th afternoon we get a 3ft swell from the east (period 4 seconds), but the wind is light and cross. Then on the 21st we have solid offshore winds from the north (22 mph!) which would be perfect if there was any power in the water, but the swell is only 3ft with a 4-second period. That’s a windy flat day at best.
The 23rd shows the largest combined energy of the whole run at 51, with a 3ft ESE swell and 6-second period. But the wind is cross-onshore at 12 mph. For a beach and reef setup, that means onshore chop and poor shape.
The best of a bad bunch, if I'm pushed: I'd point to the Tuesday morning of the 15th at Cala Nova. It's glassy, the swell is tiny at 1ft from the ESE, but it's clean. If you had a longboard and no expectations, you might find a knee-high ripple. For that matter, Monday the 20th afternoon has a gentle offshore wind from the NNW with a 1ft ESE swell – again, clean but tiny.
Otherwise, honestly? This setup with the consistent cross-onshore winds and small, short-period swell might actually be more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer for most of this forecast.
Stay patient, check the charts again in a few days, and pray for a proper winter swell.
Rusty.
