Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ibiza - Cala Nova over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – it's a tough stretch ahead for Ibiza's Cala Nova. We're looking at a 16-day run where the swell just isn't showing up. From now, right through to the 23rd of July, we’re dealing with tiny waves that are barely a bump. The combined swell energy is almost always in the single or low double digits—we're seeing numbers like 3, 2, even 0 on most days. That's the definition of weak.
So, what's the story? For almost the entire first week, from Wednesday the 8th right through to Monday the 13th, it's a complete bust. The swell is sitting at 0.3 ft to 1 ft with periods as low as 2 seconds. That's not surf, that's a lake. Wednesday morning the 8th has a 1 ft SSW windswell with a 3-second period and a cross-shore wind. It's messy, weak, and not worth wetting a wetsuit.
Thursday the 9th is more of the same: 1 ft to 1 ft of poor quality. Friday the 10th is dead flat in the morning with 0 combined energy. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th offer a flicker of hope with clean conditions and light offshore or cross-off winds, but the swell is still only 0.7 ft to 1 ft. You could paddle around but you won't be catching anything.
Monday the 13th is a little interesting – a 1 ft easterly swell with a 7-second period, giving a combined energy of 9. Still tiny, but the longer period (for a windswell) hints at a tiny bit more shape. It's still a "poor" call.
Now, a small window appears around Tuesday the 15th of July. The morning shows 2 ft from the ESE with a 5-second period and light cross-onshore breeze. The combined energy jumps to 26, which is a small step up. The afternoon sees 3 ft and 30 energy. Tuesday the 15th morning has clean conditions with a light WNW offshore wind and 2 ft, giving 16 energy. The afternoon is clean too with 2 ft and 22 energy.
Wednesday the 22nd of July – now we're a week and a half out, so take this with a pinch of salt – we see the strongest push. The afternoon of Monday the 20th has 3 ft from the SE with a 6-second period and a clean cross-off wind, giving 56 combined energy. That's the biggest number in the whole forecast. Then Tuesday the 21st morning has 2 ft from the SSW with a 7-second period, giving 41 energy, but it's onshore.
The absolute standout, if you're desperate, is Monday afternoon the 20th of July. The swell bumps up to 3 ft from the SE, the period stretches to 6 seconds, and the combined energy hits 56 – the strongest we'll see. On top of that, we get a fresh cross-offshore breeze from the NNE, keeping the surface clean. It's still not big, but for a spot that's been flat for days, it's the best chance you'll get. For beginners, that's a perfectly manageable size. SE swell isn't ideal for the optimum direction here (they want SE), but it's close enough to get a few small, clean peaks on the sandbank.
Bottom line: the next couple of weeks are a write-off for surf. There are no big swells, no groundswells. This is a beach and reef break, and with no wave energy, it's more of a swimming spot. If the wind blows strong and clean on the 20th, you might get a kite session going, but for a surfer? It's a waiting game. Forecasts can change, so don't lose hope, but right now, it's looking barren.
Rusty.
