Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ibiza - Cala Nova over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Right, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Ibiza’s Cala Nova over the next couple of weeks. Honestly, mate, it’s a pretty quiet picture for paddle surfing. The forecast is showing a real lack of any decent swell energy, with the highest swell we see topping out at just 4 ft, and that’s accompanied by choppy, onshore winds. A lot of the time, we’re looking at flat spells or tiny, weak waves. It’s a beach and reef setup, so on the days with a bit more size and poor wind, it might look more interesting for kite surfing than paddling.
We start off on Saturday the 11th with next to nothing – a tiny 0.3 ft swell from the SW with a short 5-second period. The combined energy is a pitiful 2, and we’ve got a cross-shore breeze. Sunday the 12th bumps up to a 3 ft swell from the east, but the period is still short at 4 seconds, and it’s choppy with a 12 mph cross-onshore wind. By Tuesday the 15th, we get a bit of hope with the morning showing a clean, glassy surface, but the swell is only 1 ft from the ESE. It’s clean, but there’s just no power behind it.
Wednesday the 16th morning brings a light cross-offshore breeze and a 1 ft swell, keeping things clean, but the combined energy is only 11, so you’re really just bobbing around. Thursday the 17th is more of the same, with a tiny 0.7 ft swell. Then we hit a flat spell – Friday the 18th has zero swell.
We get a little spike on Saturday the 19th with a 4 ft swell from the ENE, but the period is a short 5 seconds, and a 12 mph cross-onshore wind will chop it up. The energy is moderate at 70, but the quality just isn’t there for a good paddle. The morning of Sunday the 20th is clean with a light cross-offshore wind, but the swell drops back to 2 ft. Monday the 21st is also clean, but the swell is down to 1 ft.
The best on offer might be Tuesday the 22nd morning. It’s glassy, with the water temperature sitting at a very unusual 81° – that’s 6° warmer than average for this time of year. The swell is a tiny 1 ft from the SE with a 4-second period. It’s flat, mate, but if you’ve got a longboard and just want to feel the warm water under a glassy sky, you could have a mind-clearing paddle. The rest of the week stays small and mostly choppy, dropping to nothing again on Friday the 25th. The last few days of the outlook are just tiny, weak swell and onshore winds.
So, to sum it up: there are no standout surf days for a proper session. The swell never builds enough energy or gets a good wind window to make anything worth getting excited about. It’s a long, quiet run, but forecasts can change. Keep an eye on the charts.
Rusty.
