The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. To be straight with you, this 16-day window for the island is a quiet one. Don't get your hopes up; the surf is tiny and weak for the foreseeable future.
We’ll start at Cala Nova. Through Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th, it’s real small – around 0.7ft to 1ft coming from the ESE. The energy is barely a whisper – just 11 (combined) on Wednesday morning. That morning is glassy with a slight air and is about as good as it gets. The rest of the week is choppy with cross-onshore winds.
Friday the 17th offers nothing much either, maybe a bump under 2ft. The wind is light onshore or cross-off but there's just no push. Weekend mornings on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th see tiny waves 0.7ft to 1ft and while Sunday morning is dead calm and glassy, those 3-second windswells won’t do you any favors.
The second week rolls in and it’s more of the same flat spell. Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st give the best of the second week: tiny 1ft pulses from the SE, with clean cross-off winds in the mornings. But the energy is still very weak (under 10 combined). Wednesday 22nd is almost flat with 0.7ft and nothing going on.
Things get a tiny bump around Thursday 23rd to Saturday 25th. Thursday morning has a light offshore from the NNW and 2ft swell from the SE, which is the cleanest we’ll see. Combined energy goes to 7 – still low, but at least it’s something. Saturday 25th afternoon sees the biggest of the run: a 3ft ESE swell. But the wind becomes moderate cross-onshore and choppy. Energy hits 35 (combined) but the wind ruins any chance of good surf.
After that, from Sunday 26th through to Wednesday 30th, it’s very small again – 0.7ft to 2ft from the ESE or SSW. There’s one standout, Thursday 30th morning, with clean cross-off wind from the NNW and a little more period – 6 seconds – and combined energy of 11. Still small, but at least the water is clean.
Water temps are about average for July, nothing unusual. The bottom line: if you absolutely need to get wet, the cleanest windows are the glassy morning on Wednesday 15th, or the clean cross-off mornings on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st, but you’ll be on a longboard struggling to catch foam. The rest is a waiting game. Not much for beginners, not much for experts; just flat, small, and choppy.
It’s a dry spell, mate. Forecasts can always change, but right now this is one of those blank runs for the area. Keep the board waxed, maybe take up something else.
Rusty.
