The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on the cards for Caioba over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the first week and a half is a real struggle. We’re in a flat spell with tiny, weak waves and a lot of onshore or cross-shore wind messing things up. The water temp is sitting at 71°F which is a good 6°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so it feels like a bathtub out there, but that’s about the only highlight for a while.
From Thursday, August 20th through to the end of August, you’re looking at ankle-to-knee-high slop, mostly from the east with short periods of 7 to 10 seconds. The combined wave energy is very low, often under 100 (33, 24, 18, 17, 42, 85) – that’s barely enough to keep a longboard moving. The wind is a mixed bag, but we get a few glassy mornings on the 25th, 27th, 28th, and 30th, with the 25th showing a bit of shape from the SE swell (14-16 sec period) but still only 2 to 2 ft. It’s surfable, but ordinary.
The real gem in this forecast is way out there – Friday, September 4th. The morning session looks promising with a clean 5 ft swell from the southeast, period of 10 seconds, and a nice cross-off breeze from the WSW. The wave energy jumps to 508 (moderate), and the conditions are rated as “very good.” That’s the standout. The afternoon gets a bit bigger, 7 ft from the SSE, but the wind swings onshore and it’s a touch lumpy, plus at that size it’s getting into expert territory.
So, my call: sit tight, scratch the itch on the glassy mornings if you’re desperate, but circle September 4th on the calendar. That Friday morning is the one to aim for.
