Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ballyconnell over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s break this down for Ballyconnell in imperial. It’s a rough forecast, plain and simple.
First few days, starting July 10th – there’s a small west swell around 4ft with an 11-second period, pushing moderate energy (332). But the wind is all wrong, cross-onshore, making it a mess. Water temp is about 61°F, a touch warmer than usual. Don’t bother paddling out.
Saturday the 11th is smaller and choppy. Then from Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 14th, the wind turns light and offshore, cleaning things up, but the swell shrinks to tiny – 1ft to 2ft. The energy is weak (20 to 86). Period on the 14th hits 10 seconds, so there’s some shape, but it’s longboard or flat stuff only.
From the 15th to the 18th, it’s flat or junk. That 19 mph north-northwest wind on the 17th and 18th kicks up a messy 3ft windswell with a terrible 4-7 second period. Skip it.
Now, the only real pulse comes around Monday July 21st. Swell jumps to 7ft from the west-northwest with a 10-second period, and the energy climbs to a strong 784. But the wind is fresh and cross-onshore at 19 mph – it’s going to be a choppy, lumpy mess. That size is for experienced surfers only. Wednesday the 22nd drops to 5ft with lighter wind, might be a little cleaner, but still rated poor.
For the kite surfers, from the 20th to the 23rd, that wind and swell combo at a beach break looks a lot more fun than paddling out.
Honestly, there’s no perfect session here. The 21st-22nd is your only shot at some size, but you’ll have to deal with bumpy conditions. Otherwise, it’s a quiet stretch.
Rusty.
