Alright, Rusty here with the imperial read.
I’ll level with you – Doolin Point is flat out not delivering for this whole stretch. We’re starting off with nada but a weak 4ft west swell that’s short period, and the wind’s cross-onshore, so it’s all choppy and messy. From Tuesday July 7th all the way through Sunday the 13th, the first week is just poor. You get a few pulses around 4ft to 4ft from the west, but the wind is stuffed and the surface is lumpy. By Friday the 10th, small 2ft to 4ft wavelets come in with a north wind turning cross-offshore – cleaner, but still weak energy and just not enough punch.
Water temps are 61°, a bit warmer than average for this time of the year by about 2°, so it’s a touch nice for a dip but not for surfing.
Then it flatlines. By the 11th and 12th, we’re down to 2ft and less. Moderate cross-off breezes keep the surface clean, but there’s no juice. Tuesday the 14th sees a small 2ft west swell with moderate offshore winds, which makes it clean, and the combined energy reading is 69 – still pretty weak. After that it’s a desert. Through the 16th, 17th, and up to the 21st, we’ve got waves barely 0.3ft to 0.7ft with a mix of clean conditions onshore and off, but mostly flat.
The only hope is Wednesday the 22nd morning. Swell jumps to 3ft from the WNW, period is short at 7 sec, but the wind is clean from the NE and the combined energy is 121 – that’s moderate energy, finally something worth mentioning. But it’s back to cross-onshore chop by the afternoon.
I’m a local but I’d say save your petrol, because nothing here is screaming “go now.” The 22nd morning is your best shot if you’re desperate for a paddle, but it’s not a standout, just a maybe. For an expert reef break like this, we need a proper groundswell and offshore wind to make it sing – and this forecast doesn’t have that.
Signing off, Rusty.
