Table - best surf conditions forecast for Doolin Point over the next 16 days.
G’day, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Doolin Point.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for a proper surf. The window only really opens briefly Friday morning, 10 July, and that’s your one standout. Apart from that, there’s a long, long stretch of flat and junk.
The overall pattern is dominated by a weak westerly swell that’s barely tickling the coast. The combined wave energy sits mostly in the double digits, with only a few days cracking 100 (moderate), and even then it’s poor surf. The water temperature is about 61°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – nothing crazy, just a bit of a bonus.
So, your best bet – and truly the only one worth paddling out for – is Friday morning, 10 July. Doolin Point is a reef break, expert only, and it’s exposed to the west. The swell is coming from the WNW at 3 ft with a period of 11 seconds – that’s a nice long-period groundswell, which will give you proper shape and energy, and the combined swell energy is 241 (moderate). The wind is a light NNE breeze at 10 km/h, which is cross-offshore, meaning clean faces. Conditions are described as clean, and the forecast expects good surf. It’s not huge, but it’ll be rideable and tidy. Don’t expect any crowds, but don’t bank on solitude either.
After that Friday morning, it’s a desert. Saturday and Sunday drop to under 2 ft with moderate onshore winds. The whole second week is a write-off – tiny swell, poor conditions, and most days the combined energy is below 100. From Monday 13 July right through to Thursday 23 July, it’s all poor surf, with only a handful of “surfable but very ordinary” moments on the 22nd and 23rd. That’s a gap of nearly two weeks with nothing worth getting wet for.
If you’re a beginner, there’s nothing here for you – the swell never gets over 5 ft, but it’s too small and messy anyway. For experts, Friday morning is your moment. After that, better luck next time.
Rusty.
