Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a hard look at what Doolin Point has in store for us. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough watch. We’ve got a 16-day window here, but it’s mostly a waiting game.
The overall pattern is dominated by moderate to fresh cross-onshore winds and a lack of decent swell energy. The water temperature is sitting at 61°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year (2°F anomaly), but that's the only bit of comfort you're getting. For the next week and a half, the combined energy of all swells directed here is weak, mostly sitting in double digits or just barely breaking 100 (e.g., 291 on the first day), struggling to produce anything with punch.
We start off Sunday, July 5th with the biggest swell of the whole forecast – 5ft from the W – but it’s battered by a 12 mph cross-onshore wind. That 9-second period doesn’t help either; it's just messy, choppy, and as the guide says, poor surf. Monday and Tuesday offer a similar story, with swell fading from 4ft down to 3ft and the wind staying onshore or cross-onshore. The wave comment across this whole stretch is brutally consistent: "poor surf conditions." This is a long stretch of ugly.
We finally get a change in the wind direction. On Monday, July 14th, we see the first glimmer with a morning glass-off. A light offshore breeze from the NE at 6 mph cleans things up, and we get a clean wave face on a 3ft, 10-second W swell. The combined energy is still only moderate at 135, and the comment upgrades to "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." It’s the best we’ve got, but it’s small, inconsistent, and with a score of just 1 out of 10, it's a far cry from a standout session. The next day, July 15th, gives us another chance with a light offshore from the ENE and a tiny 2ft W swell. Again, "surfable" but far from exciting.
After that, we drop back into the abyss. From Wednesday, July 16th onwards, swell drops to 2ft or less, and the wind turns ugly again. Winds on July 20th are a solid 19 mph onshore. The entire second week is a write-off.
Look, the best window – if you can call it that – is Monday morning, July 14th and Tuesday morning, July 15th. If you absolutely have to get wet, that’s your shot. It's a reef break requiring expert skill, and the crowds are likely to be a problem because there's nothing else around. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer right now. It’s rough.
Rusty, signing off.
