Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s ahead for Doolin Point.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next few days are a write-off. We’ve got a Westerly groundswell showing up, but the wind is just cruel. Through Friday and into the weekend, it’s a fresh cross-onshore breeze, blowing 18 to 22 mph, and that’s making a mess of things. The wave energy is moderate (542), but the surf quality is just poor. You wouldn’t wanna be out there.
We’re looking at a gap from now until Wednesday the 8th of July before anything becomes remotely rideable. That’s a long stretch of flat or blown-out days.
Wednesday the 8th is the first glimmer of hope. For the morning, the wind drops to glassy – just a slight air. The swell is small, only 2ft from the West at 9 seconds, and the energy is weak (74). It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The afternoon stays marginal.
Now, Thursday the 9th of July morning sees a shift: a light rain, but a SE cross-offshore breeze at 3 mph cleans things up nicely. Swell is still small at 3ft from the West at 10 seconds, but the energy picks up to 151. The afternoon is where it gets interesting for Doolin Point. The wind turns offshore from the East at 6 mph, the waves hold at 3ft, and the period stretches to 10 seconds. The energy jumps to 206, and the conditions are clean. This is a solid, quiet little window.
The standout in this whole outlook, though, is Friday the 10th of July morning. The wind is glassy from the West at 3 mph, the swell bumps up slightly to 3ft from the West at a nice 11-second period – that’s groundswell, and for a point break like Doolin, it’ll wrap in nicely with a bit more shape. The energy is moderate (223). This is your best chance for a proper session, with clean, lined-up waves.
After that, we slide back into mediocrity. Saturday the 11th is a no-go with a moderate cross-onshore. Sunday the 12th morning is glassy but tiny at 3ft and only 8 seconds – surfable but not exciting. The afternoon on the 12th sees a jump in height to 6ft and a 11-second period, with a strong energy reading (913), but the onshore wind ruins it. Monday the 13th morning is the same deal: 6ft at 12 seconds from the South, but a cross-shore wind makes it lumpy.
From the 14th onwards it’s back to poor conditions with onshore winds and choppy seas. So, to be honest, if you’re keen, your window is narrow. Focus on Thursday afternoon the 9th and Friday morning the 10th. Friday morning is the pick – glassy, clean, and a long-period groundswell from the West.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
