The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Doolin Point over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, this is a grim outlook. The first real chance of anything half-decent doesn’t roll in until Saturday the 1st of August. That’s over a week of flat, weak, and messy conditions. We’ve got a long stretch of poor surf ahead, with a few small pulses of swell that get completely trashed by cross-onshore winds. The energy is almost non-existent, with values like 23 (weak) and 57 (weak) for the first week. It’s just not worth paddling out for.
Now, Doolin Point is a reef break that handles a west swell perfectly, and it’s a spot for experts only. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s one small comfort.
The only sliver of hope shows up on Saturday morning, the 1st of August. We’ve got a clean 4 ft swell from the west, with a light NNE breeze keeping it glassy. The combined energy hits 239 (moderate). It’s still not huge, but clean conditions at a reef like this can make it feel better than it looks. This is the standout, but it’s a long way off, so don’t get your hopes up too high. The rest of that day and the days after look messy again with onshore winds.
For experts only, keep an eye on the morning of the 1st. Otherwise, save your energy. The tide will be a factor too, but for now, the forecast is telling us to wait.
Rusty.
