Table - best surf conditions forecast for Doolin Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get real about this stretch in your language.
To be straight with you, the next week and a half is going to be a tough slog for any kind of decent surf around here. We’re looking at a long, quiet run with barely any energy in the water. The first real chance of anything worthwhile doesn't show up until Monday, July 20th, and even then, it’s a messy picture.
For the first few days, from the 12th through the 19th, you’re looking at tiny waves – mostly ankle to knee-high, with weak energy readings (19 to 95). The wind is mostly cross-off or offshore, keeping things clean, but there’s just nothing to ride. A couple of afternoons, like Tuesday the 14th, offer a hint of a surfable wave, but it’s so ordinary it’s hardly worth paddling out for. The water temp is around 61°F, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year.
Now, onto the one standout, and it’s a big one. On Wednesday, July 22nd, Doolin Point (County Clare) wakes up to a serious pulse of groundswell. We’re talking an 12 ft swell from the WNW, with a long period of 11 seconds. The combined energy is massive at 3114, which is strong. However, before you get too excited, this is a classic *expert-only* day. That size is well over 8 ft, and the wind is onshore from the WSW at 12 mph. The forecast notes the wind and tide are favorable, but the sheer size is too big for this break. It’s a raw, heavy day for the experienced crew only. The afternoon sees a drop to 10 ft but with a stronger 18 mph cross-onshore wind, making it lumpy and difficult.
The rest of the forecast is a letdown. Thursday the 23rd is still 5 ft to 5 ft, but with onshore and cross-onshore winds, keeping it messy. After that, it fades out into small, weak, and wind-affected surf through the end of the month.
So, the honest take: don’t hold your breath for the next week. The only real event is that massive, expert-only day on the 22nd. If you’re not a seasoned charger, sit this one out. The forecasts can change, but as it stands, it’s a long wait for a very specific window.
