Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cornish Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright, rust bucket here, Rusty, looking at the charts for the next couple of weeks. Let me tell you how it is.
The next ten days are a tough slog. From now until about July 19th, there’s almost nothing on offer. We're talking tiny 0.6ft to 2ft waves with weak energy that barely gets into double digits (topping out at 95). The water is about 61°F, which is a degree warmer than normal, so it’s not cold, but the surf is dead. Unless you need to wash the sand out of your wetsuit, don't bother.
We get a little bump around July 20th, but the wind is ugly. Monday morning sees the swell hit 5ft, with energy in the low 200s (211), but a cross-onshore wind messes it up. It gets bigger in the afternoon to 6ft, but the wind goes onshore, and it's just messy.
The one moment that really stands out is the morning of Wednesday, July 22nd. That's a serious 12ft swell from the WNW, with a period of 11 seconds. The energy is massive, reading 3114. But that size is just too much for this break, and the wind is onshore. The data says it's too big. This is for absolute experts only, and even then, it's going to be a maelstrom. You've been warned.
Cornish Reef is the only spot in the cards. It's a fairly consistent reef that is wide open to the west. For almost the entire run it’s not going to work. After that huge day on the 22nd, it drops back into the 3-5ft range with onshore winds and short period, so the quality is poor.
So there you have it. A load of flat days, then one day of terrifyingly big, messy surf. It’s a grim forecast. Keep the board in the car, but don't get your hopes up.
Rusty.
