Alright, Rusty here, and I’ve got a look at the coming swell window for Cornish Reef.
Honestly, it’s a pretty flat and quiet picture for the next couple of weeks. The water’s sitting at 61°F, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least the paddle won’t bite.
The first few days are a write-off. Monday the 6th through to Thursday the 10th, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell is small and weak. The combined energy is only around 163 to 329 (moderate end of weak), with waves around 4ft to 4ft and poor conditions. Not worth paddling out for.
Friday the 10th morning shows a slight improvement with a light cross-shore wind and a 4ft, 11-second swell from the west, energy at 329. The conditions are still called marginal, but it’s the first tiny window where the wind isn’t trashing it. It’s still not a standout.
The weekend of the 11th and 12th drops off fast. Swell drops to 2ft and then 1ft, with clean conditions but no power. Not doing much.
There’s a dry spell from the 13th to the 16th, with tiny waves, mostly below 2ft. The 14th has some offshore wind and a 2ft west swell, but that’s ankle-snappers. Energy is 82, so very weak.
The next real chance comes on Sunday the 19th. The morning has a light cross-offshore breeze, a 2ft west-southwest swell with a 12-second period, and energy of 89. The afternoon is glassy, with a 2ft, 11-second swell and energy of 79. Conditions are clean, but the waves are small. It’s surfable, but nothing to get excited about.
The rest of the outlook into the 21st is just more small, weak, onshore wind slop.
So, the honest truth? There’s no standout session in this 16-day window. The best bet, if you’re desperate, is the early morning of Sunday the 19th for a clean but small wave. The reef will need that long-period swell (12 seconds) to wrap in properly, but don’t expect much. It’s a long wait for very little reward.
Rusty.
