### Imperial
Alright, mate, Rusty here with the call. I've got to be honest with you, looking ahead over the next 16 days, it's a rough one. There isn't a single decent option on the table. From Friday, September 11th, right through to Saturday, September 26th, it's all "poor surf conditions." That's a long stretch with nothing to get excited about.
The only break on the menu is Areia Preta. It's a consistent spot, which is usually a plus, but the wind and swell direction are all wrong. We're stuck with a persistent cross-onshore breeze out of the ESE for the whole run, chopping everything up. The swell is short-period, 6 to 8 seconds, mainly from the ESE, but this break needs that NE direction to really work.
The water temp is a warm 81°F, which is pretty average for this time of year.
For that first week, from the 11th to the 16th, you're looking at a weak, short-period swell around 5ft to 5ft. The combined swell energy is in that moderate range (245–383), but with that onshore wind, it's just bumpy and weak. Not worth the effort.
The 17th throws us a tiny curveball. We get a spike in the swell period to 11 seconds—a proper groundswell—and the energy jumps to 456 (moderate energy). That's the only glimmer of hope. But the wind is still cross-onshore at 12-15 mph, so any potential for clean waves is gone. A 4ft to 5ft swell isn't too big for a beginner, but in these bumpy conditions, you're not going to catch a good one.
From the 18th all the way to the 26th, it's the same story: weak, short-period chop (4ft to 5ft, 6-7 seconds) and mostly cross-onshore winds. The energy drops into the weak range (186–283) towards the end. The last few days have the wind turning more onshore, which is slightly better for wind direction, but the swell is too weak and short to matter.
So, the bottom line: I'd leave the board in the rack for a while at Areia Preta. It's looking way more interesting for kite surfers than for us paddle guys right now. Forecasts can always shift, but as it stands, this is a solid pass.
