Table - best surf conditions forecast for Whitesand Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Whitesand Bay has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s a pretty lean run ahead, with hardly any surf worthy of getting wet for. We’ve got a long gap of flat, weak conditions from now until the end of the third week of July, so don't be holding your breath.
The water temperature is sitting at 60°F, which is pretty much average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Right, so Saturday the 11th is a non-starter. Tiny 3ft swell from the north with a short, weak 5-second period and a combined energy of just 70 (weak). A moderate breeze is blowing cross-off, but it’s just not enough to do anything with. That sets the tone for the next week-and-a-half.
From Sunday the 12th right through to Thursday the 23rd, we’re looking at a real desert. The swell barely registers, with heights mostly under 1.0ft and energy readings staying below 100. The wind is often clean, sometimes glassy, but there's simply no wave to ride. You’ll see a couple of pulses of longer-period energy on Sunday the 12th (21 seconds) and a few days after, but with near-zero swell height, that long period is just a rumble on the ocean floor. This stretch is a total write-off for surfing.
Now, there is one little flicker of life right at the tail end of the period. On Friday the 24th of July, things finally wake up. We get a 6ft swell from the WSW with a 6-second period, pushing the combined energy up to 307 (moderate). Saturday the 25th sees the energy drop to 205 with a 4ft swell. However, the wind is onshore and cross-onshore, making for choppy, bumpy conditions. These are not good for your traditional paddle surfing; with that strong, lumpy onshore wind and a decent push of water, this is looking much more like a kite-surfing setup than a clean surfing one.
And that’s your lot. A long, flat spell followed by a blown-out pulse at the end. Keep the board in the car for a different spot, or take the kite out on the 24th and 25th. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, this is a tough one to swallow.
Rusty.
