Alright folks, let's get into the local surf picture for Whitesand Bay. I've gotta be straight with you – it's a tough start. This beach does have its moments, but the next week or so is looking pretty flat.
For the next several days, from Monday the 6th through to Thursday the 16th of July, it’s pretty much a write-off for any decent paddling. We’ve got a long dry spell of poor surf conditions with tiny waves and short-period slop. The combined energy is almost non-existent, struggling to get past a weak 47 (moderate energy) early on, but then just dropping into single digits and low tens for days. There are some clean morning sessions with offshore or glassy winds, like on Thursday the 9th morning with that glassy N wind, but the swell is only 0.7ft, so you’re just floating around out there.
Now, around the very end of the window, things start to get interesting. The first real flicker of life comes on Friday morning, July 17th. We’re looking at a clean 5ft of SW swell, but the period is a short 8 seconds, so it’ll be a little bumpy and quick. The combined energy climbs into a moderate 289, which is a solid step up. It could be worth a look for an experienced surfer as it’s not huge but needs a bit of respect.
The real standout, though, looks like Monday morning, the 20th of July. That’s your best bet of the whole outlook. The swell cranks up to 8ft from the WSW – that’s getting into solid territory, pushing towards expert-only size. It’s pumping out a strong 720 combined energy with a clean, cross-offshore NNE wind to hold it up. That’s a serious washing machine, so don’t take a beginner out there. If you’ve got the skill and the board for it, that’s the session to circle on the calendar.
Tuesday the 21st also looks promising with a clean 8ft WSW swell and a lighter SSE cross-offshore breeze in the morning, also packing strong 662 energy. For the rest of the run into late July, the swell stays in the chest-to-head-high range with that cross-off wind, so while not as epic as the 20th, there will be waves.
Hang in there. It’s been a long flat spell, but there’s a solid pulse coming.
