Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be honest, it’s a tough run ahead. Looking at the whole 16-day window for Porth Oer, there’s really nothing that’s going to get the heart racing. This is a sheltered spot, and for most of the stretch the swell just isn’t showing up with any sort of energy and the winds are mostly making a mess of things or blowing straight onshore. The first real surfable day isn’t until Friday the 4th of July, and even then it’s a massive letdown. We’re looking at a classic dry spell for this area.
The Outlook
Right through the early days, it’s bleak. Friday the 3rd of July has tiny ankle-slappers with a cross-off breeze, but the swell is far too weak to even bother with. The weekend of the 4th and 5th sees a little bump in size, with Saturday morning having waves around 3 ft from the SW and moderate wave energy (68). But the wind is a fresh cross-shore, so it’s going to be lumpy and messy. Sunday is even smaller. The best you can say is Monday the 7th morning has a period of no wind and a little 1 ft wave, but it’s basically flat. Don’t even look at the middle of the month – from the 8th to the 12th of July it’s a solid stretch of near-zero surf, mostly blown out by northing winds. There's a morning on the 13th of July that goes glassy again, but again, the wave is just 2 ft and weak – you’d be scratching for any ride.
The end of the forecast period isn't much better. A morning on the 16th of July has a 1 ft SW swell, but the wind is a strong breeze at 25 mph from the south. That’s just howling. Even the final day, the 18th, shows a 4 ft wave from the north, but it’s accompanied by a fresh cross-off wind. That’s clean, sure, but it’s a short period windswell (5 seconds) and the energy is still just moderate (62). For a spot that needs a good SW groundswell to work, this isn't it.
Forget about finding a standout here. There isn’t one. The swell quality is consistently poor. This whole run is one to skip. Get the gear ready for another day.
Rusty, signing off.
