Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Hey there, surfers, it's Rusty. Let's talk about what's coming up at Tuahine Point.

This isn't the best run of surf for Tuahine Point overall. We've got a mix of alright windows, but the wind and swell conditions are often against us. There are a couple of standout sessions, though, so let's break it down.

The water is currently 57°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you'll want a decent wetsuit.

The first decent window hits on Tuesday morning, July 7th. We're looking at a clean, glassy 4ft swell from the east with a 10-second period. The combined energy is moderate (334). With no wind, it's going to be clean and should offer some fun, rideable waves. This is the pick of the early week.

After that, things get messy. From Wednesday, July 8th through the weekend, the wind shifts onshore and blows up the surf. The swell actually builds, hitting over 15ft on Friday, July 10th, but with winds howling at 25-28 mph and heavy rain, it’s a complete write-off for a paddle. Honestly, with that much cross-onshore wind and big swell, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.

We get a clean reset on Monday morning, July 13th. A light cross-offshore breeze from the WNW cleans up a 4ft easterly swell (300). It's not huge, but the conditions will be tidy.

The standout moment of the entire forecast is actually a bit of a wild card. On Saturday, July 18th, the morning session looks excellent. We've got a clean 8ft swell from the SSW with a 10-second period and light cross-offshore wind. The combined energy is strong (1408). This is solid, clean, powerful surf that’s ideal for experienced surfers. It's the best on offer, but it’s also a long-range call so keep an eye on it – forecasts can shift.

Then, on Sunday, July 19th, the swell goes absolutely nuts, predicting a 23ft south swell with a very long 14-second period. The wind is forecasted to be glassy, making it look beautiful, but that size is just too gnarly for Tuahine Point. This is only for the absolute elite, if anyone at all. The long period will also make it wall up, so it’s best left to the experts on a reef.

The following week sees the swell drop back and the winds turn a little more favorable, with Tuesday, July 21st offering a clean 4ft swell from the SE (339) and light cross-offshore winds. That’s a solid wind-down session after the chaos.

So, to wrap it up: Tuesday, July 7th is the clean, smaller option for a fun paddle, but Saturday morning, July 18th is the standout for experienced surfers looking for size and power in clean conditions. Just don't bother with the weekend of the 10th unless you've got a kite.
