Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tuahine Point over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at Tuahine Point over the next couple of weeks. Starts off small, but there’s some real gold in the second week.
The opening is tame. Sunday the 12th has a clean 4ft SE swell with a light cross-off wind – worth a look that morning. Combined swell energy is 429 (moderate). Water temp is 57°, right about average for this time of year. Monday the 13th drops to 3ft ESE swell, clean but nothing special. Tuesday and Wednesday are tiny – 1ft to 1ft waves, even with glassy conditions Wednesday afternoon, there’s no energy (combined energy down to 37). Thursday brings a small 2ft long-period ESE groundswell (14 seconds), but cross-on wind spoils it.
The real standout is Friday the 17th. Morning has a 4ft ESE groundswell with a 15-second period, clean offshore NW wind, and the combined energy is 879 (strong). It gets better in the afternoon – 5ft ESE swell, 16-second period, offshore and glassy. Excellent, clean surf for experienced paddlers. Saturday the 18th is blown out with strong cross-onshore winds – skip it.
Sunday the 19th is another beauty. Morning has a 5ft SSE swell, 16-second period, light offshore NW wind, and energy is pumping at 1648 (very strong). Long-period groundswell, clean, perfect for experts. The afternoon stays clean with a 5ft swell, but the wind swings cross-off. Crowds are listed as *sometimes*, so expect a few locals but nothing wild.
The following week gets messy. From Monday the 20th, onshore winds and lumpy conditions take over. There’s a big 6ft to 12ft swell from the 22nd to the 25th, but the wind is cross-on or onshore, and the swell is way too big for the point – 12ft plus with short periods. Combined energy hits 12465 on Saturday the 25th, but it’s just chaos. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The bonus is Sunday the 26th. Morning has an 8ft SE groundswell, 11-second period, light cross-off WNW wind, and energy is 2521 (very strong). Big and powerful – experts only. Monday the 27th morning also delivers with a 6ft ESE groundswell, 12-second period, and clean offshore NNW wind – excellent for experienced surfers.
Overall, the best on offer is Friday the 17th and Sunday the 19th – both mornings with clean, strong groundswell and offshore wind. The weekend of the 26th is also promising for the big-wave crew.
Stay safe, keep your wits about you, and I’ll see you down the point.
