The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. Looking at the whole 16-day window for the Toulon area, I’ve gotta say it’s a grim one. There’s just no swell energy to speak of. The first real surf recommendation doesn’t appear until the afternoon of Tuesday the 11th of August, and even then it’s barely a ripple. Before that, there’s a long stretch of flat, poor surf conditions from the start of the period all the way through to that Tuesday. That’s a solid week of nothing.

Alright, so on Tuesday the 11th of August, in the afternoon, we finally see a tiny pulse. Toulon is a very sheltered spot, and it’s rarely breaks, so this is a real exception. The swell is a pathetic 1.0ft from the SW with a period of just 2 seconds. The combined swell energy is a measly 1, which is about as weak as it gets. The wind is a clean cross-offshore breeze from the W at 9 mph, which would keep the surface tidy, but with no wave power, it’s just a flat, clean lake. This is a beginner spot, but even for a beginner, there’s nothing to ride here.

After that brief tease, the forecast goes straight back to poor surf conditions for the rest of the window. From Wednesday the 12th all the way through to Thursday the 20th of August, it’s a complete blank. There are a few mornings with glassy conditions or clean offshore winds, like on the 14th and 19th of August, but without any swell, it’s just a beautiful day to be on the beach, not in the water. For a spot this sheltered and inconsistent, a blank run like this is pretty normal. Honestly, if you’re looking for waves, this setup looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle. Come back another season.

Rusty.
