The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks at Suicides.
Honestly, it’s a rough stretch. Suicides is a consistent reef break that usually loves swell, but the wind is just not cooperating. For the whole 16‑day window, conditions are mostly poor, with a constant cross‑onshore breeze from the north or north‑northeast, and the swell is short‑period and messy. Water temp is 73°F, which is about 3°F warmer than normal for this time of year – a little bonus, but it doesn’t fix the surf.
From Saturday July 18 through Sunday July 26, every session is rated poor. Swell heights run from 4ft to 6ft, periods are short (6–9 seconds), and the wind is moderate to fresh cross‑onshore. The combined energy builds from 108 (weak) up to 951 (moderate) by the 26th, but it’s all blown out. No good windows.
Then on Monday July 27 morning, we get a little bump – a 7ft NE swell with a 10‑second period, and the wind drops to a gentle 9 mph cross‑onshore. The combined energy hits 1643 (strong). This is the only session that even gets a marginal score – it’s borderline, still cross‑onshore and choppy. Only for advanced surfers at that size. It’s the best of a bad lot, but don’t get excited.
After that, it’s back to poor conditions through to Sunday August 2. Swell drops to 4–4ft, period short again, and the wind picks up. No standouts.
So, bottom line: there are no good surf options in this 16‑day window. Suicides is a quality break, but the wind is relentless. If you’re really keen, that Monday July 27 morning is the only sliver, but it’s far from clean. The longer‑range stuff is even less promising. Keep an eye on the forecasts – things can change, but right now it’s a washout.
Rusty.
