Table - best surf conditions forecast for Suicides over the next 16 days.
Hey, Rusty here. I’ll be straight with you: the next 16 days at Suicides are pretty much a bust. This reef break is usually reliable, but the wind is messing everything up. Almost every day has cross-onshore or onshore winds, chopping up whatever swell comes in. There’s no true standout, so let’s run through it.
Starting Friday July 10th, it’s flat and messy. Tiny 2ft of northerly swell with a 5-second period and a moderate onshore breeze. The combined energy is weak (50). Not worth paddling out. Saturday July 11th is even smaller – 2ft and then 1ft, cross-onshore wind. No good.
Sunday July 12th sees a bump to 4ft–4ft of NNW swell, period up to 8 seconds, and moderate energy (163–194). But the wind is still cross-onshore to onshore, leaving it choppy. Surf quality is poor.
Monday July 13th stays around 3ft NNW, 9-second period, gentle cross-onshore breeze. Energy moderate (162–177). Still messy. Tuesday July 14th drops to 3ft then 2ft, cross-onshore, poor. Wednesday July 15th is terrible – 3ft to 4ft, but a 4–5 second period and fresh cross-onshore wind up to 19 mph. Weak and lumpy.
Thursday July 16th brings swell to 4ft–5ft from the NNE/N, period still short at 7 seconds, energy moderate (195–207). But the cross-onshore wind is fresh (19 mph), so it’s lumpy and blown out. Friday July 17th is similar – 5ft–5ft, 7-second period, fresh cross-onshore, energy moderate strong (262). Still messy.
Saturday July 18th is the biggest of the first week: 6ft from the N, 8-second period, strong energy (440–463). But again, fresh cross-onshore wind. It’s got power, but it’s a washing machine. Too big for beginners (over 5ft) and too choppy to be fun.
Sunday July 19th pushes to 7ft from the N, period stretching to 9–10 seconds, very strong energy (850–905). This is solid groundswell potential. The period is decent, but the wind is still cross-onshore (12–16 mph). At 7ft, that’s expert territory only, and with that wind, it’s a bumpy mess.
Monday July 20th is the only glimmer. We get 7ft from the N, 9-second period, very strong energy (782), and for once the wind is cross-shore from the ENE at just 9 mph. This is a “marginal” call, but it’s your best shot. Suicides reef could handle that N swell, and if the wind stays light, you might get a few clean ones. But it’s not a guarantee.
After that, Tuesday July 21st through Saturday July 25th is a slow fade, with onshore and cross-onshore winds ruining everything. Swell drops from 6ft to 3ft, periods variable, energy moderate to weak. Saturday afternoon offers a 4ft NE swell with 9-second period and strong energy (507), but the wind is cross-onshore again. Same old story.
Water temp on July 10th is 72°, about 1° above the average for this time of year – normal enough.
So, honestly, this whole stretch is grim for paddle surfing. With solid swell (6ft+), strong winds, and cross-onshore conditions, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddling. There’s a long gap of poor quality until Monday July 20th, and even that’s marginal. If you’re keen, maybe Monday morning with that light cross-shore could give you a couple, but I wouldn’t call it a standout. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d keep the board in the shed.
Rusty.
