Table - best surf conditions forecast for Suicides over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Suicides over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, this is a rough stretch. There’s surf on the table, but the wind is going to be a persistent problem, and every single day in the forecast is marked as poor surf conditions. The swell is there, but it’s always coming in with a cross-onshore breeze, so it’s going to be choppy and lumpy almost the whole time.
We start on Monday, July 13, with a clean-looking sky but a cross-on northeasterly at 9 mph. The swell is 3 ft from the NNW, with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate at 173. It’s just not clean. That same setup hangs around for Tuesday, with the swell dropping to 3 ft. By Wednesday, the swell is down to 2 ft, and the wind is picking up to 12 mph. It’s weak and messy.
From Thursday, July 16, through to the end of the first week, the swell builds. Thursday morning we see 4 ft, but the period drops to 6 seconds—short-period windswell. The wind is a constant 16 mph cross-on from the NNE. The combined energy climbs into the 200s by the afternoon, but it’s all rough and lumpy. Friday, July 17, sees the biggest swell of the whole outlook: 5 ft in the morning, 5 ft in the afternoon from the NNE, periods of 7 seconds, and the combined energy hits 258. The wind is up to 19 mph, fresh, and lumpy. That’s not a surfable wave; that’s a washing machine.
The entire second week, from July 19 through to July 28, is more of the same. Swell sizes sit between 3 ft and 5 ft, mostly from the N or NNW, with periods of 6-8 seconds. The wind never lets up, always cross-onshore, mostly from the N or NNE, and speeds stay between 9 and 19 mph. There’s not a single window of clean, offshore, or glassy conditions. Even on July 24, when the wind goes “on” in the morning, the wave comment is still poor, and the wind is a moderate 16 mph.
The combined energy values are mostly in the moderate range (100-200), with a few afternoons pushing into the low 200s, but it doesn’t matter if the wind is trashing it. The longest period we see is 9 seconds on the first day, and later 8 seconds on July 28. Nothing to write home about.
There is no standout day. No “go” window. The best you could say is that the swell is consistent, but the quality is just not there. If you had to pick a time, the morning of July 24 might be the least bad, with the swell at 4 ft from the N, 7-second period, and the wind is onshore, but at least it’s not cross-on. Still, I wouldn’t get excited.
Given that the only break in the recommendation is Suicides, a reef break that is consistent and exposed to the NNW, and the swell direction from the NNW is actually matching the optimum, the setup is right for the swell. But the wind is a dealbreaker. If you’re a kite surfer, this setup might be interesting for you, because the cross-onshore wind and lumpy conditions are more your thing. For paddle surfing, it’s a solid pass.
No water temperature data is provided in the finder, so I can’t tell you about the anomaly.
Signing off. This one’s a write-off, but forecasts can change. Stay tuned.
