Table - best surf conditions forecast for Suicides over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here, calling it as I see it.
The next 16 days at Suicides are going to be a real test of patience. We've got a steady stream of swell, but the conditions are persistently poor, and that's a long, ugly stretch of choppy, bumpy water. The wind is almost always on it from the north or northeast, keeping things messy. There's no clean window, no standout day; it's just a long grind of onshore slop. The combined energy is weak to moderate throughout, starting at 177 and building, but it never delivers a clean wave.
The water is running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, about 73°.
We kick off on Sunday, July 12th, with a 4ft swell from the NW, but a 9 mph cross-on breeze from the NNE makes it a choppy, poor surf call. This continues into Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th, with small swell dropping to 2ft and persistent cross-on wind, energy falling as low as 67. Wednesday the 15th is tiny, with 2ft. Thursday the 16th sees a slight bump to 4ft, but it's from the NNE with a short period of 6 seconds, and still cross-on. The wind strengthens through the week, hitting 19 mph from the north on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th. The swell builds to 5ft on the 18th and 5ft on the 19th, but it's all wind-affected; the energy hits 344 on the 19th, but it's a lumpy, onshore mess.
The second week doesn't offer any relief. Sunday the 19th through Wednesday the 22nd of July, the swell holds around 5ft to 6ft, with energy climbing into the 400s, but that north wind stays on it, cross-on or onshore. The period stretches to 10 seconds by the 22nd, which is a bit better, but the wind ruins it. From Thursday the 23rd onwards, the swell fades back to 3ft to 4ft, and the wind stays cross-on or onshore from the north or northwest. The best energy reading comes on Saturday, July 25th afternoon at 450, but it's with a 13 mph cross-on breeze and a 4ft, 10-second N swell. It's still a poor surf call.
Overall, there isn't a single day where the wind and swell line up to give those clean, ridable waves. The consistent north wind is a killer for this exposed reef. For a spot that can handle some size, the whole run is a write-off for paddle surfing. If you're a kiter, the 5ft+ waves with strong north winds on the 18th and 19th might look interesting, but for a surfer, it's a long, hard wait.
Rusty, signing off.
