The Lowdown

Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s break it down.

Look, the next couple of weeks at Sosanji Rivermouth are not looking great. The main problem is a massive, dangerous swell set to roar through. We’re looking at a combined energy of 38,504 (that’s strong to very strong) with a 23ft swell from the ESE on Thursday the 6th. That’s dangerous, not fun. The wind is a brutal 45 km/h cross-on, making it a total mess. That’s only for the absolute experts, and even then, it’s sketchy. The water temp is 84°, which is normal for the time of year.

That big swell sticks around for a few days, just dropping in size but staying blown out with onshore winds. Friday the 7th is still huge and messy, Saturday the 8th is the same story, Sunday the 9th is a write-off, and Monday the 10th is barely rideable with a 5ft swell but still onshore. It’s a rough patch.

We get a small window of hope on the 12th and 13th. The swell drops to a clean 3ft from the east, and on Wednesday morning the 12th, we get glassy conditions. The energy is weak (388), but it’s clean. Same again on Thursday morning the 13th – glassy, 3ft east swell. These are the best we’ll get in the first week, but the wave size is small and the break is pretty inconsistent, so don’t get your hopes up too high.

The week of the 14th to the 18th is back to poor conditions – onshore winds and rain. A real bummer.

Now, for the second week, there’s a glimmer of promise. On Wednesday morning the 19th of August, we get a 6ft swell from the east with a period of 9 seconds, and the wind is glassy. The energy is moderate (573). This is the standout of the whole forecast. The swell is getting a bit big for beginners, but for the experienced crew, this could be the one to wait for. The east swell direction is a good match for the break.

Then on Friday morning the 21st, we’ve got another glassy morning with a 5ft east swell. Still a solid option, but that Wednesday morning is the pick of the bunch. Just remember, this is a long way out, so keep an eye on the forecasts.

Rusty out.
