The Lowdown

Alright, this is Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Schnappers Point over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, the outlook is a bit of a slow burn. We’re looking at a long stretch of nothing much from now until the 25th of August. That’s a solid week of flat, messy, or just plain poor conditions. The water is sitting at 54°F, which is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.

The first real flicker of life shows up on the morning of the 26th of August. It’s not much—just a small 3ft swell from the north-northwest, but the wind is glassy. That’s a rare combination for this spot, and it’ll be clean. The energy is weak though, only registering 52 in the combined energy stakes. It’s surfable, but you’ll be working for it.

Things start to get interesting on the 29th of August. Saturday morning sees a 4ft north-northwest swell with a calm, glassy surface. The combined energy jumps to 217, which is moderate. This is a decent call. Then Saturday afternoon, the swell pulses up to 7ft from the same direction, still glassy, and the energy rockets to 626. That’s a solid, moderate-strong pulse. This is a standout session for intermediate to advanced surfers. The wind is dead calm, so it’ll be silky smooth.

Sunday the 30th keeps the momentum. The morning session brings a 6ft north-northwest groundswell, with a period of 11 seconds and clean offshore wind from the south-southeast. The combined energy is 871, very strong. This is proper, long-period groundswell energy. It’ll be powerful, with long waits between sets. Perfect for a point break like this to hold shape, but it might be a bit too straight for a beach break. The afternoon holds similar size at 6ft, but the wind swings cross-offshore, which will still keep it clean.

Monday the 31st of August is the last real highlight. A 3ft north-northwest swell with a very long period of 15 seconds, glassy winds, and a combined energy of 397. This is a classic clean, long-period groundswell day. It’ll be beautiful, but the long period means the sets will be spaced out. It’s the best call for a relaxed, quality session.

Beyond that, it drops right off again into September with nothing worth paddling out for.

So, the standout weekend is the 29th and 30th of August. Saturday afternoon’s 7ft glassy swell is the absolute winner for power and cleanliness. Sunday morning’s 6ft clean groundswell is a close second, but it’s a bit more of a tide-sensitive, expert-only wave given the period and energy. Keep an eye on the 31st August morning for a clean, long-period treat.

Rusty.
