The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Schnappers Point. To be honest, the outlook over the next 16 days is pretty grim. There's no real stand-out session to get excited about, and a whole lot of flat or messy days in between. The pattern is mostly small, weak swells getting chopped up by the wind. If you're desperate for a paddle, there's a tiny window, but don't expect much.
Looking at the immediate forecast, Sunday the 23rd morning has an 8ft swell from the NNW, with a 9-second period. That's a fair bit of size, but the wind is a cross-shore at 9 mph, and the wave energy is strong (1522). The call is "marginal" though, and with that much onshore influence, it's not going to be clean. That afternoon, the wind picks up to 16 mph and the waves drop off, making it a write-off.
Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th are tiny. Monday has a 1ft swell, and Tuesday morning is glassy but with only 0.7ft of swell. You'd be floating out there. From Wednesday the 26th right through to Saturday the 7th of September, the data shows almost nothing but "poor surf conditions" or flat spells. There are a few moments with 5ft to 6ft swell on the 27th and 28th, but the wind is onshore and strong (up to 19 mph), so it'll be a lumpy, blown-out mess, not worth your time. Later, on the 5th of September, there's a 6ft swell with moderate energy (523) but again, a fresh cross-shore wind spoils it.
The only slight glimmer is on Thursday the 3rd of September morning. The wind goes glassy, and there's a small 2ft swell from the N with an 8-second period. The wave energy is weak (59), but it's "surfable" with ordinary conditions. It's not going to be epic, but if you need to get wet, that's your best bet. Just keep your expectations low.
Overall, this is a long, lean stretch for Schnappers Point. The water temp is about average for this time of year. The crowds can be "often" here, but with conditions this poor, you'll probably have the place to yourself.
Rusty.
