Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve had a good look at the charts for Schnappers Point, and honestly, it’s a pretty quiet run ahead. We’ve got a decent little window early on, but then we’re looking at a long dry spell before a late pulse of energy tries to get going.
Let’s start with this Sunday the 5th of July. That’s your best bet, no doubt about it. We’ve got a 4ft swell rolling in from the north, and the morning is glassy – dead calm wind, zero breeze. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing wild there. The wave energy is moderate at 235 (combined energy). It’s not a huge wave, but for a north swell hitting a north-west optimum point break, it’ll set up some nice little lines. It’s a point break, so a long-period groundswell (14 seconds) like this will wrap in nicely. Just keep in mind, this spot can get crowded, so get in early. The morning session is the standout; the afternoon picks up some light rain and the wind swings, making it ordinary.
From Monday the 6th onward, it all falls apart. That 4ft drops to nothing but tiny ankle-snappers for days. We’re talking about a solid gap of over a week with no real rideable surf. The swell height barely registers, and the combined energy values are in the single digits or zero – it’s flat. There are offshore winds at times, but with no swell, it doesn’t matter.
Then, way out on Friday the 17th of July and into Saturday the 18th of July, a long-period groundswell starts to show. It’s not big – 1ft to 2ft – but the period is a very long 15 to 17 seconds. The combined energy finally climbs back into triple digits on Friday afternoon (153) and Saturday morning (191), which is moderate wave energy. For a point break, that long period could actually make for a few clean, lines if you’re patient. The wind is cross-offshore, keeping things clean. But don’t expect a classic; it’s a faint pulse. For the rest of the window, it’s a whole lot of nothing.
If you want a wave, get on it this Sunday morning. After that, it’s a waiting game for that second week pulse which is promising but not a guarantee.
Rusty.
