Table - best surf conditions forecast for Schnappers Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again. Let's take a look at what's cookin' at Schnappers Point for the next couple of weeks, in the old measurements.
Honestly, it’s a grim start, mate. For the first five days, from now through to the 11th of July, we’re staring at a whole lot of nothing. The water’s sitting at about 56°, which is pretty much average for this time of year, but you won't be needing a wetsuit for the waves because there aren't any. We're talking about a flat spell that runs all the way through to Sunday. It's a tough stretch.
Things finally get a pulse on Monday the 13th. A tiny 2ft swell from the north shows up in the morning, but with a super short period of 5 seconds, it’s got no push. The wind is dead calm and glassy, but those waves just aren’t worth paddling for. Then Monday arvo turns nasty – a 5ft north swell smashes in, but it's accompanied by a 19 mph onshore wind, making for a complete mess. That’s more of a kitesurfing session than a surf.
Now, Tuesday the 14th of July is the one bright spot in this whole outlook. We’ve got a 4ft swell from the north, and while it’s only 8 seconds, the energy reading is solid (201). The wind is glassy in the morning, just a whisper from the WSW. That’s a clean wave at an intermediate level. It’s got a little bit of push, but not too much. It’s not huge, but for this stretch, it’s the best we’re gonna get. Keep in mind, Schnappers Point can get crowded, so you might have some company.
After that little highlight, it fades back to tiny, weak stuff. The rest of the week and into the weekend sees piddly 0.5ft to 2ft swells with long periods (15-16 seconds) that just don’t have the height to work at a point break. There are some glassy moments, but the energy numbers are in the teens and twenties, just not enough to get excited about.
Looking way ahead to the 23rd of July, there’s a pulse of 4ft swell from the north in the afternoon, but it’s getting sideswiped by a 13 mph cross-shore wind, which will chop it all up. It’s got some energy (230), but the conditions will ruin it.
So, to sum it up: if you’re hanging for a surf, your one and only real chance is the morning of Tuesday, the 14th of July. It’s not epic, but with glassy conditions and a clean 4ft wave, it’s the standout. The rest is a write-off, so pick your moment and make it count.
Rusty.
