Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks. Gotta be honest with you, it’s a slow stretch, so patience is going to be the name of the game for most of it.
We’ve got a long gap of almost no surf to start. The first real flicker of hope shows up around Monday, July 13th, but it’s still pretty marginal. The only real standout in the whole 16-day window is Tuesday, July 14th at Schnappers Point. That morning we’re looking at a clean 6 ft swell from the north, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is dead calm, glassy – absolute perfection for an intermediate spot like this. The combined swell energy is solid at 327 (moderate wave energy), so there’s some push behind it. That 6 ft is pushing into the “too big for beginners” zone, so it’s more for the crew with a few sessions under their belt. The afternoon drops to 5 ft but switches to a light onshore wind, so definitely aim for the morning session. Crowds are likely here, so get in early. The water temp is sitting at 56°, about average for the time of year, so a good 4/3 is the call.
Now, before that standout, the forecast is bleak. From now right through to July 13th, we’ve got days of flatness or tiny, weak 0.3 ft to 2 ft swells with poor conditions. There’s a brief window on the afternoon of July 13th with 4 ft swell, but it’s onshore wind and the energy is still weak (89). It’s just not worth paddling out for.
After the 14th, it drops off again. July 15th sees a drop to 2 ft – 3 ft with onshore and cross-onshore winds. July 16th and 17th have some longer period groundswell (14 to 16 seconds) from the NNW, but the size is tiny at 1 ft – 2 ft, and the energy is moderate (between 115 and 178). That long period on such small waves means they’ll be weak and fat, probably just closing out at a point break like this.
From July 18th onward, we’re back to flat or near-flat conditions all the way through to the 22nd. It’s a long, dry run. Nothing happening. The combination of the point break and the predominant swell direction doesn’t line up well for this period.
So, bottom line: if you want the best wave of the fortnight, clear your schedule for Tuesday morning, July 14th at Schnappers Point. Glassy, chest-high plus, and clean. That’s your one and only real shot. Everything else is a flat spell or a complete write-off.
Rusty.
