The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's get into it.
Alright, look, it's a bit of a slow start on the whole. We're looking at a long stretch of flat, clean conditions at Schnappers Point that just don't deliver. From Sunday the 19th right through to Thursday morning the 30th, it's a brutal run of minimal swell. There's a frustrating gap of about ten days here where you're basically just looking at flat, glassy water. It's pretty, but there's nothing to ride. The water temp is sitting at 55°, which is basically bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Now, we finally get a pulse of energy on Thursday morning the 30th. This is the standout. The combined energy hits a solid 438 (moderate wave energy), with a clean 6ft swell out of the NNW. The wind is glassy off the SSW, so it's going to be clean. That's the session to circle. The swell has a short period of 7 seconds, so it's a wind swell, not a groundswell, but at that size with glassy conditions, it's a proper goer. It's a point break, so it handles that short period well. This is a spot for the intermediate crew, and it's a fairly consistent setup, so it usually produces. Crowds are often here, so expect company.
Thursday afternoon the 30th stays rideable but the wind swings onshore from the NNW, so it'll get lumpy.
Saturday morning the 1st of August is another solid call. Another 5ft swell from the NNW with glassy conditions. The energy is 270 (moderate wave energy). It's a little smaller than Thursday, but still clean. A solid second option.
After that, we get a bit of a long-period pulse on Sunday the 2nd of August, with a 14-second period swell from the NNW. The energy is 148 (moderate wave energy), but it's only 2ft. That long period will make it a bit fat and hard to catch at a point, and the morning wind is cross-off, so it'll be clean but not very punchy.
The rest of the forecast is a write-off. There's a lot of wind and rain, but no real swell to back it up. The run from the 31st of July through the 3rd of August is all wind-affected, rain-soaked, and tiny.
So, bottom line: if you're keen, the best bet is the morning of Thursday the 30th of July. That's the one. The Saturday morning the 1st of August is a close second. Don't bother with the rest.
Rusty.
