Table - best surf conditions forecast for Schnappers Point over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – we’ve got a long, flat spell ahead. There’s nothing worth paddling out for over the next two and a half weeks at Schnappers Point (point break, fairly consistent). The first glimmer of anything surfable comes on Monday the 13th, but don’t get your hopes up. We’re looking at a lot of blank days before that.
Wednesday afternoon, the 8th, is a write-off – just 0.3ft of swell from the N with a short 8-second period, and light offshore SSE wind won’t save it. Combined energy is a feeble 1. Water temp is 56°, about average for the time of year. Thursday and Friday, the 9th and 10th, are all zeros – flat, glassy mornings, but no wave to ride. Saturday and Sunday, the 11th and 12th, same story: tiny 0.3ft bumps, glassy mornings, but it’s basically a lake.
Then on Monday morning, the 13th, we finally see a pulse – 2ft from the N, period a sluggish 5 seconds, combined energy 14. Still flat and poor. Monday afternoon though, the wind swings onshore from the N at 16 mph and the swell bumps to 5ft with a 6-second period and combined energy 158. But the wind is howling onshore, so it’ll be messy and ugly – better for kite surfing than paddling. Not one for us.
Tuesday the 14th morning is the only faint highlight across the whole outlook: 2ft from the N, 7-second period, combined energy 48, with a cross-offshore SW wind at 9 mph. It’s described as “surfable but very ordinary.” Honestly, it’s small, short-period, and only worth a look if you’re desperate. The break is exposed and likes swell from the NW – this N swell isn’t ideal. It’s a 1 out of 10, and that’s the best we get.
Wednesday the 15th through to Thursday the 23rd just fades away again. Mornings give tiny 0.7ft from the NNW with long 16-second periods, but combined energy stays in the 20s to 50s. It’s clean with light winds, but there’s no real wave to ride. From the 20th, it’s back to zeros and flat calm conditions right through to the 23rd.
So here’s the blunt truth: the best surf on offer is Tuesday morning, the 14th of July. A small 2ft from the N, short 7-second period, with cross-offshore wind keeping it clean. It’s not going to get you barrelling, but it’s the only window with any push. The rest of the 16-day stretch is a paddling workout, not a surf. Crowds? Schnappers can get busy, but on a day like that, you might have it mostly to yourself.
Hang in there, mate – we’ve all been through these flat spells before.
Rusty.
