The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk in feet and miles per hour. This one’s looking like a long, slow cooker with not much on the menu for a while.
Schnappers Point is staring down a flat spell for the first week and a half. Swell heights are below 3ft most of the time, barely kicking. The winds are a mixed bag—some glassy mornings, but the wave energy is tiny (combined energy often in the single or low double digits). It’s not worth suiting up.
The first real bump comes Saturday morning, August 29th. A 4ft swell from the N with a 9-second period, but it’s blown out by onshore NW winds around 9 mph. Marginal at best—energy just over 200 (moderate), but not clean.
Then Wednesday, September 2nd, shows a little life: the afternoon glass-off delivers about 4ft from the NNW with short 7-second period and 160 energy (moderate). Surfable, but only just.
The two windows to watch are Thursday, September 3rd, and Sunday, September 6th. Thursday morning is clean with a 4ft N swell, 10-second period, and light cross-offshore wind from the SW (3 mph). Energy is 235 (moderate). Nice, lined-up waves, but not huge.
The real standout is Sunday, September 6th. Morning brings 6ft from the N with a 9-second period, clean offshore from the S at 6 mph. Energy jumps to 408 (strong wave energy). By the afternoon, it’s pushing 7ft from the N, still clean with a light cross-off ESE breeze at 9 mph—energy of 597 (strong to very strong wave energy). That’s the biggest, cleanest swell of the whole forecast. For experienced surfers, this is the session to aim for. It’s a fairly consistent break, so it’ll have waves, but expect crowds on a day like this.
Water temp is around 54°F, normal for this time of year. You’ll need a full 5/4, no question.
So, flat start, a small window of hope on September 3rd, and a proper standout on September 6th. Don’t waste your gas before that.
Rusty.
