Table - best surf conditions forecast for Schnappers Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s shaping up at Schnappers Point over the next couple of weeks.
The outlook is a bit of a mixed bag, with a long, flat spell to start. There’s a real gap of no surf to speak of from now until about the 13th of July. You’ll be looking at clean, glassy conditions a lot of the time, but there’s just no swell to push through. The wait gets a little interesting around the 14th, but the real standout is hiding further out.
Let’s break it down chronologically. The first real pulse of energy comes on Monday the 13th, but it’s weak. You’ll see some tiny 2ft waves from the NNW with a short period of 4 seconds. The combined energy is a low 27, so don’t get your hopes up. Tuesday the 14th picks up a little. The morning has a 3ft swell from the north at 8 seconds, but it’s cross-shore wind. The afternoon is where it gets a bit more interesting – a 4ft NNW swell with a 8-second period, and clean glassy conditions. The wave energy climbs to 286, which is a solid moderate push. It’s a good sign, but not a home run.
Then we hit a big dry spell again. From Wednesday the 15th right through to Thursday the 24th, the surf is virtually non-existent. There are a few tiny pulses, but nothing worth a paddle. You’ll see a very long period 16-second swell on the 16th, but it’s only 0.7ft, so it’s just a whisper in the water. The energy is pitiful, mostly in the single digits.
Now, the standout. Mark your calendars for the 24th of July. The morning is the clear winner. We’re looking at a 6ft swell from the NNW with a 7-second period. The combined energy is a big 566, which is strong wave energy. The wind is light and cross-offshore, keeping the surface clean. This is the best session on offer. The afternoon isn’t bad either, still clean with a 4ft swell, but the morning is the one to chase. For a point break like Schnappers, a NNW swell is a solid direction, and the size is perfect for intermediate surfers. It’s not too big, not too small. The water temp is sitting at 56°F, which is about average for the time of year, so no major surprises there.
Remember, this is a point break, so it handles the swell well. The break is fairly consistent, but on the 24th, it’s likely to be pumping. It can get crowded often, so get there early for the best ones.
The second week looks pretty grim until that 24th. After that, it fades out quickly again into tiny waves.
This is Rusty, signing off.
