The Lowdown
Alright, let's get real, folks. Rusty here. Gonna be straight with you – this forecast for the next couple of weeks is a bit of a bummer. We're looking at a long stretch of flat to tiny, weak conditions. The first real whisper of anything surfable doesn't even show up until Tuesday the 14th, and it's not much to write home about. After that, we see a few days of nothing, then a gap of almost no energy from the 18th to the 24th. It's a lean run.
The only spot on the radar is Schnappers Point. This is a point break, fairly consistent, and it likes a swell from the NW. It's exposed, so it grabs whatever is out there.
The first little pulse arrives on Tuesday, the 14th of July, in the afternoon. We're looking at a weak 4 ft swell from the NNW, but the period is short at 8 seconds, so it won't have much punch. The wind is light from the NNW, which is onshore, and the combined energy is a weak 205. The water temp is 54°, which is about average for this time of year. Honestly, it's a marginal one – the conditions are just okay.
Wednesday the 15th is a total write-off. The swell drops to 2 ft and then 2 ft. The morning is cross-off, but the afternoon turns glassy. Don't be fooled by the glass, the waves are just too small.
Thursday the 16th, the morning sees a tiny 2 ft swell from the NNW with a 6-second period and a cross-off wind. Combined energy is just 59. It's surfable, but very ordinary. The afternoon is even smaller.
From Friday the 17th right through until the 29th, it's mostly flat. You'll see a few tiny 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft pulses here and there, but nothing that will get you out of bed. The combined energy values are all in the single digits or low teens – that's just not enough.
The one slight ripple of interest happens on Friday the 24th morning. It's a 0.3 ft swell from the N with a 12-second period, but the energy is a mere 7. It's a promise of a long-period groundswell, but it's just too small to do anything.
Bottom line: don't bother suiting up for the next two weeks. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It’s a blank run, and unfortunately, that's pretty normal for this area when the swell windows don't line up. Forecasts can change, but right now, there's just nothing on offer.
Stay tuned, because it can't stay this flat forever.
Rusty.
