The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the charts for this stretch of coast.
Honestly, the next 16 days are a bit of a grind, with only a few sessions that might be worth a paddle. We've got a long stretch of flat or junk conditions, so you’ll need to be patient.
The first real chance to get wet comes on the morning of Sunday, the 23rd of August. It’s not a classic, but it’s the only glimmer early on. Schnappers Point will see a 5 ft swell from the north, with a period of 9 seconds. That's a moderate energy push (402), but the wind is a cross-onshore from the west at 9 mph, making it a bit choppy and messy. It’s marginal, but if you're desperate, it’s the best we’ve got for that weekend.
The surf dips again until the morning of Saturday, the 30th of August. This is our standout window. Schnappers Point should be seeing a 4 ft swell from the north, with a 9-second period, producing moderate energy (281). The wind is a light cross-shore from the WSW at only 3 mph, which will keep the surface fairly clean. It’s a point break that’s "fairly consistent," so waves will be rolling through. The optimum swell direction is from the northwest, so this north swell is a decent match. The water temp is about average for this time of year. This is the one to circle.
After that, it fades out again. The beginning of September is flat or blown out, with a few glassy mornings but no swell to speak of. The afternoon of Friday, the 4th of September, sees a bigger push of 6 ft from the north-northwest with an 8-second period (346 energy), but a strong cross-onshore wind from the north at 9 mph will make it choppy and tough. This one is for the hardcore lads only, and honestly, it's more of a kite-surfing setup than a clean paddle session.
In short, the 30th of August is your best bet. It’s not pumping, but it’s clean and rideable.
Rusty.
