The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. For the next week and a half, we’re looking at a proper flat spell. There’s hardly a ripple on offer at Schnappers Point, and nothing that’s worth paddling out for. The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until Tuesday the 28th of July, and even then, it’s a bit of a wait.
Right now, through to Monday the 27th, it’s mostly dead calm or tiny, weak bumps. You’ll see a few 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft pulses from the N or NNW, but with periods all over the shop and combined energy barely cracking 20, it’s honestly just a lake. The water temp is sitting at about 54°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so nothing weird there.
Then, on Tuesday the 28th of July, we finally get a bit of a pulse. By Tuesday afternoon, a NNW swell builds to 6 ft with a 7-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 347 (moderate). That’s the only standout in the whole run. The wind is glassy, so it’ll be clean. But here’s the thing – at 6 ft, it’s getting a bit solid for beginners, and the short period means it might be a bit crumbly and lack that real punch. Still, it’s the best we’ve got.
The Wednesday morning after that (29th July) sees a 3 ft N swell with a 9-second period and combined energy of 152 (moderate), and glassy winds again. It’s surfable, but nothing special.
So, bottom line: don’t bother getting wet until the 28th. That Tuesday afternoon is your window – a clean, glassy 6 ft NNW swell at Schnappers Point. It’s not world-class, but after all this flatness, it’ll feel like a gift. Crowds are often there, so expect a few locals out. From there, it fades quickly again.
Rusty.
