The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Titahi Bay over the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, we’re in for a pretty flat spell to start. Don’t get your hopes up for the first week – there’s just nothing doing. The wind is howling from the south at 28 mph on Tuesday, and the swell is a measly 0.7 ft. It’s a real struggle. We’re looking at a long stretch of small, poor surf. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.

The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until Wednesday the 12th of August. That’s a full week away. The morning is where it’s at. We’ve got a 8 ft NW groundswell rolling in with a 8-second period. The combined energy jumps right up to 924 – that’s a solid push of power. The wind is light from the ESE, keeping it clean. That’s the standout. It’s going to be a bit thumpy, but for Titahi, that’s a proper session. The afternoon drops off a bit, and the swell gets a little messy, so hit it early.

After that, it fades fast. Thursday the 13th has a bit of leftover 4 ft NW swell, but it’s real ordinary. Then we’re back into the doldrums for the rest of the run. The Southerly wind comes back strong, and the swell drops to almost nothing. For the second week, it’s looking like a total write-off – just tiny dribbles and onshore junk.

Bottom line: There’s one real window here, and it’s Wednesday the 12th of August in the morning. That’s the one to circle. The rest of the fortnight is a waiting game.

Rusty.
