Table - best surf conditions forecast for Inner Cut over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s break down the surf for Inner Cut (The-Cut-Nelson-Harbour).
Right now, it’s flat. The first few days from Thursday the 9th through to the 13th of July are just tiny 0.3ft pulses and long stretches with no waves at all. Water temperature is 55°F, which is about average for the time of year.
The first real action hits on Tuesday the 14th of July. We’ve got a solid 7ft swell from the north, with a 9-second period and combined energy of 1096 – that’s strong. The wind is glassy, light from the south, so it’s clean. That morning is a standout, but at 7ft, it’s for experts only. The swell direction is north, and the optimum here is northwest, so it’s not perfect, but it’s good. The afternoon drops to 5ft from the NNW, still glassy, energy at 380.
The next big one is Sunday the 19th of July. Morning brings 5ft from the north with a 14-second period – that’s a long-period groundswell, and for a point break, that’s a treat. The wind is a clean 6 mph cross-off from the SSW, making for lovely waves. Energy is 704 – strong. The afternoon sees 6ft from the north, 13-second period, energy 1170, but the wind turns cross-on from the north, so it gets bumpy.
Keep in mind, Inner Cut is an *inconsistent* spot that only breaks sometimes, so these windows are not a sure thing. But when it fires, it’s worth it.
After the 19th, it fades fast. The 20th has some 5ft swell but with cross-shore winds and chop, it’s messy. The 21st is small, and from the 22nd onward it’s mostly tiny, poor surf. The last few days from the 24th are flat again.
So, the best calls are Tuesday morning the 14th of July for big, clean expert waves, and Sunday morning the 19th of July for a cleaner, more user-friendly long-period groundswell. The rest of the window is mostly quiet.
Rusty.
