The Lowdown

Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at what’s cookin’ for Praia dos Pescadores over the next couple of weeks.

Alright, straight up, the first few days are pretty flat and ordinary. The wait is real, but things start to get interesting by the weekend. The water temp is sitting at 69°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a nice bonus for the skin.

Wednesday the 5th sees a tiny 2 ft SSE groundswell with a clean 11-second period, but the energy is weak (106). The morning is glassy, so a log might get a few dribbles, but it’s really just "surfable" at best. The afternoon gets a cross-on wind, and it’s small and bumpy. Not worth paddling out for.

Thursday the 6th is even smaller, with 1 ft to 2 ft ESE windswell, short period around 8 seconds, and the energy has dropped to 47. Despite glassy conditions, it’s just too weak to get excited about. Friday the 7th is a write-off with cross-onshore winds and tiny waves.

Now, the first real standout comes Saturday morning, the 8th of August. The swell bumps up to 5 ft from the SSE, period jumps to 12 seconds, and the combined energy hits 590 – that’s a solid, moderate pulse. The wind is light and cross-off, making for clean conditions. This is the best of the first week, no doubt. It’s a solid intermediate wave, not too big, and the glassy morning window will be the time to go. The Saturday afternoon gets a bit wonky with cross-onshore winds, so hit the dawn patrol.

The Sunday and Monday are a letdown – the wind turns onshore and the quality drops, even though there’s a bit of swell hanging around. The energy is still there but the surface is choppy.

The next big moment comes in the second week. Thursday morning the 13th of August sees a 4 ft pulse from the ESE, but the period is a poor 6 seconds, so it’s a bit of a messy, weak windswell. The glassy conditions help, but it’s only good for a quick session.

Then, hold onto your board. Saturday the 15th of August. The morning delivers a 4 ft SSE swell with a very long 16-second period, and the combined energy is a massive 1016 – that’s strong energy. The wind is glassy. This is the standout of the entire outlook. It’s an excellent, clean, powerful groundswell. The long period means it’ll wrap in nicely, but it might be a bit too straight for the beach break, but the quality of the energy is undeniable. That afternoon it gets a touch cross-on, and the swell pushes to 5 ft, so it’s getting punchy for the intermediate crowd.

Sunday the 16th of August keeps the good run going with a 5 ft SE swell, 13-second period, and huge energy again (716). The morning is dead calm, glassy. This is another top-tier session. It’s a little less powerful than Saturday, but still very, very good.

Monday the 17th sees a 5 ft swell from the east, but the period drops to 7 seconds, so it loses that grunt. The morning is glassy, so it’s still surfable, but it’s a step down from the weekend magic.

The last few days of the outlook fade out. The energy drops, the winds get messy, and the swell gets smaller. By Wednesday the 19th and Thursday the 20th, it’s back to very small, weak conditions.

So, if you’re looking for the best, it’s Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th of August. The early morning sessions on those days are the real deal. The Saturday morning of the 8th is a solid warm-up, but the long-range call is the one to circle.

Rusty out.
