The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it's a bit of a slow period ahead, so we're gonna have to be patient.
We’re looking at a real quiet start. The first few days are basically a write-off with nothing rideable, so don't even bother waxing up yet. The first glimmer of hope shows up on Thursday the 6th of August. Early morning, we’ve got a tiny 3ft swell from the west, but the real story is the wind: dead calm, glassy as a mirror. It’s small, but if you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your window. The combined swell energy is a weak 85, so it's not gonna be pumping, but it’ll be clean.
After that, it’s back to the doldrums for the rest of the first week and into the second. The wind is all over the shop, mostly onshore or cross-shore, and the swell just doesn't have any juice. There’s a stretch from Friday the 7th right through to about the 14th of August where it’s pretty much all poor surf conditions. You’ll see some tiny waves pop up, but the wind just ruins them.
Now, the best chance we get is looking like Sunday the 16th of August. That morning, Portissol is showing a clean 3ft swell from the west, with glassy conditions again. The combined energy is a moderate 119, so there’s a little more push behind it. The wind is dead calm, so it’ll be smooth. It’s not a big day, but compared to the rest of the window, it’s the standout. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no shock to the system.
The 17th and 18th of August have a few clean mornings with light offshore winds, but the swell is just too small to get excited about. After that, the wind picks up again and it’s all over.
So, to be straight with you, there’s no real fire in this forecast. The best bet is that glassy early session on Thursday the 6th, or the Sunday morning the 16th. It’s a long wait for a small wave, but that’s the way it is.
Rusty.
