Porta do Sol Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Porta do Sol.

We’re kicking off with a bit of a slow start. The first few days are a write-off, with nothing really worth paddling out for. The swell we do have is messy and the wind’s no friend. Tuesday the 11th and Wednesday the 12th are a total bust – poor surf, cross-onshore slop, and the energy is just weak and confused. Honestly, just leave the board in the car.

The real story starts to unfold later in the week. Thursday morning the 13th is where it begins to get interesting. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell from the SSE, and the wind is glassy. That’s the kind of combo that turns this spot on. The energy is solid at 523 (moderate), and the water is sitting at 70°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – a nice bonus. This is a good window for the intermediate crew, but remember, this break rarely breaks, so if you see it working, you’d be a fool not to go.

Friday morning the 14th is another glassy morning with a 4ft S swell and 423 energy. It’s a bit smaller, but clean. The wind is offshore from the south, so you’ll be looking at some clean little walls. The crowd factor is “often” here, so be ready to share the peak.

The standout, the one you’ve been waiting for, is Wednesday morning the 26th of August. This is a full two weeks out, so it’s a long-range promise, but it looks like a beauty. We’re looking at a 6ft SSE groundswell with a very long 15-second period, and the wind is glassy. That’s 1535 (strong) energy pushing through. This is a big, powerful swell. For a point break like this, that long period will draw in some proper lines. It’s going to be a big day – over 5ft, so it’s a bit too much for beginners, but for the experienced surfer, this is the one. The only downside is that on the afternoon of the 25th, before this peak, we have a 6ft swell with a 17-second period and cross-onshore wind, which is a bit of a warning sign for the build-up.

After that, the forecast drops off again into small, weak conditions. There’s a decent-looking spot on Monday morning the 24th with a 3ft S swell, 12-second period, and glassy conditions, but it’s only 229 energy. It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about.

So, the verdict: if you’re flexible, skip the early nonsense and aim for the 13th and 14th for clean, fun waves. But if you want the real deal, keep your eyes on the 26th of August. That’s the one.
