The Lowdown

G'day, it's Rusty here.

Looks like we've got a bit of a flat spell on the cards for the next week and a half, so don't go getting too excited just yet. The surf is going to be pretty ordinary, with a few small waves but nothing worth paddling out for. It's one of those stretches where you might be better off sorting out your quiver or getting some odd jobs done.

The first few days, right through to Thursday the 19th, are looking pretty grim. We're seeing small, weak surf, all under 5 feet, with cross-shore winds messing up any chance of a clean face. The energy is weak too, with values mostly in the 100s and 200s. It's just a real mess of short-period windswell and chop. Not worth your time.

We'll see a bit more size kick in around Thursday the 17th and Friday the 18th, with the swell pushing 6.5 feet and the energy getting into the moderate range (617). But the wind is still cross, and the period is only around 8-9 seconds, so it's going to be lumpy. The wave comment says it all – "marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions." This is about as exciting as it gets, and that's not saying much.

The real hope is for Tuesday the 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd. We've got a proper groundswell showing up, coming from the E with a period of 10 seconds, and the energy is jumping right up there – 1593 on Tuesday morning. That's some strong energy! Swell heights are hitting 7.2 feet, but with the cross-shore wind, it's still looking like a bit of a battle. This is still only rated as marginal, so keep your expectations in check. It's more promising than what we've had, but it's not clean.

Honestly, there isn't a standout day or break in this whole window. If you're desperate, the Tuesday morning looks like the best of a poor bunch, but I'd be watching the forecasts closely for a change in the wind. The water temp is sitting at 79.5°, which is about average for this time of year, but that won't make the waves any better.

Keep the faith, it's a long game.

Short Range Forecast

Mostly dry. Warm (max 26°C on Thu morning, min 24°C on Thu night). Wind will be generally light.

Days 4-6 Weather Summary

Light rain (total 2mm), mostly falling on Tue afternoon. Warm (max 27°C on Tue morning, min 24°C on Sun night). Wind will be generally light.
