The Lowdown
Oi, it's Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – the next 16 days look pretty grim for Oxwich Bay. I'm looking at the charts and there's just nothing doing. The first week is a total write-off. From Tuesday the 21st all the way through to Saturday the 26th of July, there's no swell to speak of. It's a flat spell, pure and simple. We get a tiny pulse on Sunday the 26th, with a 1ft swell from the west, but with a period of just 7 seconds and a combined energy of only 15, it's barely a ripple. That's a long stretch of nothing.
The only real break on offer is Oxwich Bay itself. It's a very sheltered spot, and it's inconsistent, which is why it's not surprising to see it go so quiet. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
The pattern doesn't really improve. A few more days of tiny, short-period windswell pop up here and there through the end of July and into early August, but it's all less than 0.7ft and mixed with messy winds. The best of the worst might be Sunday the 27th, with a 1ft west swell and a 12 mph offshore wind from the NW, but that's still tiny. The combined energy is a measly 8. It's a long, flat run. For an area like this, a blank run is a bit more normal when the conditions lock in like this. It doesn't tend to stay poor for too long, so keep an eye on the forecasts.
Rusty.
