Table - best surf conditions forecast for Broughton over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook is a tough one for the first couple of weeks. We’ve got a long, quiet stretch ahead before the real action shows up.
The first surfable recommendation is a long way off, on Friday the 24th of July. Before that, we’re looking at a solid 13-day gap with nothing but tiny, weak scraps. From the 10th through to the 23rd, the swell is tiny and the energy is almost non-existent – think knee-high dribble at best, with combined energy values barely cracking 20, and often just single digits. It’s a real desert out there, so don’t bother checking the cams until the end of the month.
The real standout, and the only one worth circling on the calendar, is Friday the 24th of July at Broughton. This is the one day where everything clicks. A solid 10ft swell from the WSW with a period of 10-11 seconds is pumping in, a proper groundswell with some grunt. The combined energy is massive – 1593 in the morning ramping up to 2245 in the afternoon, which is a whole lot of ocean moving around. The wind is a clean offshore from the SE, keeping the faces smooth. This is expert territory though – over 8ft at a point break with that much power is not for the faint of heart. For the experienced crew, this is going to be a day to remember. The water temp is a warm 67°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so you might get away with a thinner suit.
Saturday the 25th still has some decent size, dropping to 6ft from the WSW. The morning looks clean with offshore wind, but it’s a drop in quality and energy (380). The afternoon turns choppy as the wind swings onshore, so get out early if you’re chasing it.
So, to sum it up: there’s a long, flat drought, then one epic day for the experts. If you’re a beginner, give the 24th a miss. If you’ve got the skills, be on it.
Rusty.
