Table - best surf conditions forecast for Norries Head over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here.
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Norries Head. The next few days are a bit of a write-off, but there’s some serious potential brewing further down the track. We’ve got a long quiet spell to start, so don’t get your hopes up for this weekend or the first part of next week.
The first real chance for a wave comes on Sunday, 12 July. Norries Head will be seeing a 4ft swell from the SE with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (253), and with a light WNW offshore breeze, things should be clean. The water temp is sitting at 69°, which is about average for this time of year. It’s a small, beginner-friendly wave, but this spot is inconsistent and can get crowded, so keep that in mind. The morning is the go, with the afternoon fading to a smaller 3ft and a cross-off wind that’s just okay.
From Monday, 13 July, through to Friday, 17 July, it’s a proper drought. The swell drops right off, with tiny waves and poor conditions. The wind is a mess, mostly cross-onshore or strong, and the energy is pitiful. There’s nothing worth paddling out for.
Then things get interesting, but not in a good way for a while. From Saturday, 18 July, through to Monday, 20 July, a big pulse of swell hits. We’re talking 15ft to 16ft from the SE, with a strong 10-11 second period. The combined energy is massive (4271 to 8432). But the wind is a solid cross-onshore, which will chop it all up. The surf quality is rated poor, and honestly, at that size, it’s only for experts. For a beach setup like Norries Head with that wind, it’s probably more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Tuesday, 21 July, is the first real standout. The swell drops to a much more manageable 7ft from the ESE, with a period of 11 seconds. The combined energy is still strong (1100), but the key is the wind: glassy in the morning. That’s a major positive and will result in clean, powerful waves. This is for experienced surfers only, as it’s over 8ft. The point break here should handle the longer period well, shaping up some nice lines. This is the best on offer for the whole period.
Wednesday, 22 July, is also promising. The swell is 5ft from the E with a 12-second period, and another glassy morning. Energy is moderate-to-strong (723). That’s a solid, clean session for intermediate to advanced surfers.
The rest of the period from Thursday, 23 July, to Monday, 27 July, holds a mix of clean, smaller swells with offshore or cross-off winds. The mornings look best. On Saturday, 25 July, there’s a 5ft to 5ft SE swell with a 13-second period and offshore winds, which looks very good, but it’s a long-range call so treat it as promising but less certain.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a write-off. The real standout is Tuesday, 21 July, with a glassy, 7ft SE groundswell at Norries Head. That’s your best bet. The following days also have some clean, smaller options.
Rusty.
