Right. Rusty here, checkin' in from the coast.
Alright, so it’s a bit of a slow start for Norries Head, but there’s a glimmer of something special on the horizon if you can wait it out. Right now, the water temp’s sitting at a pretty standard 70°, nothing weird going on there for this time of year.
We kick off on Friday, July 3rd. The morning’s got some tiny 4ft swell from the NE, period a short 7 seconds, with a light breeze from the NW keeping things clean. The energy is pretty weak at 189, so you’ll be scratching around for something to ride. Afternoon cleans right up with a glassy 2ft from the ESE, a better 10-second period, and a nice offshore wind. Energy picks up to 221. It’s small, but it’ll be the most user-friendly wave of the first few days.
Saturday, July 4th gets messy. A southerly change brings a cross-shore chop, and the swell drops to 2ft. Not worth paddling out. Sunday, July 5th is more of the same: poor, choppy conditions with a bit of rain. Monday, July 6th is just a write-off with rain and onshore winds. Tuesday, July 7th isn't looking any better.
Then we hit Wednesday, July 8th, and things get real interesting. A solid 8ft swell from the SE rolls in, with a moderate 11-second period. The energy jumps to a massive 1523 (strong). Morning is clean with a cross-offshore wind from the SW, but this is getting into expert territory. At over 8ft, it’s big and powerful, not for the faint-hearted. Still, for the crew that can handle it, those lines will be pumping. The afternoon hangs onto 8ft, still clean but with a light cross-shore ripple.
Thursday, July 9th is your shout for the best wave of the whole run. The swell drops a touch to 7ft in the morning, but the real gem is the afternoon. A glassy 6ft runner from the SE with a 10-second period. The energy is still solid at 680. That afternoon session looks absolutely pristine. This is the standout.
After that, it fades. Friday, July 10th drops to 5ft, and a rain shower messes up the coastline by the afternoon. Saturday, July 11th is flat with tiny 0.7ft dribble. From there, it’s a long, dry spell. We’re talking days of nothing but small, weak, and choppy junk all the way through to the end of the forecast on Saturday, July 18th. No real standouts in the second week.
So, the call: If you want the best of it, your window is Wednesday, July 8th for the big stuff (experts only), or Thursday, July 9th afternoon for that absolute gem of a glassy, head-high wave. Everything else is a wait-and-see.
Rusty.
