The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for Norries Head.
First thing you need to know: the next few days are a write-off. We’ve got a massive gap of nothing surfable. Thursday the 16th is flat and lumpy, and that carries on through the weekend. Don’t even bother looking at it until the middle of next week.
The first real glimmer of hope shows up on Monday morning the 21st. It’s marginal, but the swell finally starts to push through. You’re looking at 8 ft ESE swell with a 10-second period, and the combined energy is moderate (1065). The wind is cross-on from the SSE, so it’s going to be a bit choppy and a bit of a wrestle. Not a stand-out, but at least the water is about average for the time of year at 69°F.
Things clean up a little by Wednesday the 22nd. The swell drops to 5 ft from the E, period 9 seconds, and the wind goes light cross-shore. It’s small and lumpy, but a log might find a few fun ones. Again, it’s marginal.
Thursday the 23rd is actually the best of a pretty average run. We’ve got clean conditions with a light cross-on breeze, and a 4 ft E swell, period 9 seconds. The energy is weak (271) but the wind is light, so the surface will be smooth. It’s small, but it’s the tidiest wave in the window.
From Friday the 24th onward, it just dribbles away. The swell fades, the energy drops, and even though we get a few days of glassy offshore winds at the end of the month, there’s practically no wave height to work with. By the 29th and 30th of July, it’s clean but tiny – 2 ft or less.
Honestly, this is a tough stretch. The only thing worth paddling out for is Thursday the 23rd morning for a clean, small session. Keep the expectations low and the wax soft.
Rusty.
