The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Norries Head has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. To be straight up with you, it's looking like a pretty quiet stretch. There's not much energy on the cards, and what does show up is likely to be a bit messy.
The water temp is sitting at a fairly average 68°F, nothing unusual for this time of year.
The most consistent window of surf we'll see is from Thursday morning, the 21st of August, through to Monday the 25th. Even then, we're talking about small, weak waves in the 3ft to 3ft range. The combined wave energy is low, reading between 69 and 107 (weak to moderate), so you'll be working for every ride. The swell direction is mostly from the ENE with a short period of 7-9 seconds, so it's windswell, not groundswell. The highlight of this whole period would be the early glass-off on Sunday morning, the 23rd. The wind goes glassy from the east, and while the swell is a tiny 3ft from the ENE, it'll be clean. For a longboard or a funboard, it might be worth a paddle.
There's a stretch of mostly poor conditions after that, from the 25th of August right through to the end of the month. Very low energy, messy winds, and tiny surf. Not much to get excited about.
Looking way ahead, there's a bit of a pulse for Monday morning, the 1st of September. A long-period SE swell (12 seconds) comes in at 2ft, with a combined energy of 145 (moderate). But it's cross-onshore from the south, which will likely chop it up. It's a long-range call and not looking great. Then Wednesday the 2nd of September has an onshore wind and a 4ft ENE windswell, but it's a poor 6-second period, so it's not going to be any good for us.
Overall, there are no standouts here. If you're desperate for a splash, the glassy Sunday morning (23rd) is your best, and probably only, bet. Otherwise, keep the board in the car and wait for something better to come along.
Rusty.
