The Lowdown
Alright mates, Rusty here again, but we’re switching over to feet and miles now. Norries Head—it’s a point break and it’s inconsistent, so when the surf is this average, it’s a tough stretch.
We’re looking at a long block of days where there’s just nothing doing. The first thing that even qualifies as surfable is Tuesday the 25th of August. Tuesday morning we get a north wind at about 6 mph, cross-off, cleaning up the faces. Swell is a tiny 3ft from the east-northeast, with a short 8-second period and combined energy of 110 (weak). Waist-high and ordinary, but it’s the best we’ve got.
Wednesday the 26th afternoon, the wind goes glassy—dead calm from the north-northwest at only 3 mph. The swell is 4ft from the northeast, 7-second period, energy 115 (still weak). Small, but glassy as can be. For a break that’s inconsistent and often has crowds, a clean, quiet session is on the cards.
Saturday the 29th morning is also glassy, with 3ft from the east, 9-second period, and the energy picks up to 155 (moderate). The clean surface will help, but it’s still small.
From the 30th of August all the way to the 7th of September, it’s pretty much a write-off. Cross-on winds, short-period chop, or swell dropping to around 2ft to 4ft. Water temp is about 69°, bang average for this time of year.
The best moments are that Tuesday 25th morning and the glassy Wednesday 26th afternoon. Nothing special, but if you need a paddle, that’s your window. Otherwise, leave the wetsuit hanging.
Stay patient,
— Rusty
