The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Norries Head over the next couple of weeks.
Gotta be straight with you – this outlook starts slow. There’s nothing worth paddling out for until the morning of Wednesday, 26 August. That’s a good stretch of flat or poor days to sit out. The water’s sitting at 69°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothin’ to write home about there.
Now, when things finally turn on, the real standout is Wednesday morning, 26 August. Norries Head is a point break that’s exposed to swell, and it’s inconsistent, so when it lines up, you pay attention. That morning we’ve got a clean 4ft swell coming from the ENE with a period of 8 seconds, and the wind is glassy – dead calm, offshore from the NW. That’s a rare combo for this spot, and it’ll have the lines clean and smooth. Combined swell energy is moderate at 222, so there’s enough push to get you into something fun. Just know the crowds can be an issue here, so get in early. Beginners should be fine with the size, but keep in mind the inconsistency.
After that morning window, the rest of the week slips back into mostly poor or marginal conditions. The best of the leftovers is maybe Saturday morning, 29 August, with a 3ft ENE swell and clean cross-offshore wind from the NNW. It’s nothin’ special – surfable but ordinary. And beyond that, into the first week of September, we see a few more pulses of swell but the wind is always messing it up, mostly cross or onshore. The period jumps to 11 seconds on Wednesday afternoon, 2 September, with a moderate combined energy of 244, but the onshore wind kills it.
Honestly, if you’re keen, your one real shot is that Wednesday morning, 26 August. Glassy conditions at a point break don’t come around often here. For the rest, it’s a whole lot of waitin’.
Rusty.
