Table - best surf conditions forecast for Norries Head over the next 16 days.
Alright mate, let’s break it down in feet and fahrenheit.
We’ve got a slow start, but there’s a couple of proper days shaping up further out. First real chance to get wet is Saturday afternoon, July 11, at Norries Head – a classic point. The morning’s glassy but tiny at 3ft from the ESE. Come afternoon, the wind goes light NNE and glassy, the swell bumps to a clean 4ft from the ESE with a 12-second period, and the energy’s moderate (429). It’s a sweet little beginner-friendly window – crowds are possible, so don’t sleep on it.
Sunday morning, July 12, delivers a clean 4ft from the SE at 10 seconds, with a WNW offshore wind at 15 km/h. That’s clean, lined-up surf – moderate energy (253) and easy paddling. Water’s at 69°F, right on average for mid-July.
After Sunday, the surf dries up fast. Tiny swell, weak energy, and onshore rubbish take over from Monday the 13th through the 19th – a long gap of flat or junk conditions. The 18th and 19th see massive 13ft swell from the SE, but with cross-onshore winds gusting 25–30 km/h, it’s a lumpy, choppy mess – more kite-surf than paddle. Even with energy readings over 3000, it’s not worth it unless you’re an expert looking for a fight.
The big standout is Tuesday, July 21 morning. Norries Head gets a solid 8ft ESE groundswell at a long 12-second period, with a clean 15 km/h cross-offshore from the SW. That’s groomed, powerful, expert-level surf – energy at 2124, and the direction lines up beautifully with the optimum NE for the point. This is the best session of the outlook: big, clean, and hollow. Crowds are possible, but that size will keep the lineup manageable. Afternoon turns cross-on, so hit it early.
The following Sunday, July 26 morning, also shows promise – a 7ft SE swell at 11 seconds, glassy SW cross-offshore, and 1085 energy. That’s again excellent for experienced surfers, though a tick smaller and less perfect. Being 15 days out, treat it as promising but less certain.
Best bet: Tuesday morning, July 21 – size, period, and wind all come together. The 26th morning is a solid backup. Keep an eye on it.
