Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the stretch ahead for Norries Head.
We’re kicking off Friday the 3rd with a bit of a mixed bag. There’s some small, weak energy in the water, but by Friday afternoon things get interesting. We’ve got a 4ft swell pushing in from the ENE with an 8-second period, and the wind is going glassy. That’s clean, smooth surf, albeit small. The combined energy is moderate at 279, so it’s got a bit of push for the size. This is the standout of the whole run – a rare moment of that perfect, glassy afternoon session where you don’t have to fight the wind.
After that, don’t expect much for days. The weekend is a write-off with strong cross and cross-onshore winds making a mess of things. Monday and Tuesday are similar – choppy and poor. There’s no saving it.
Then, on Wednesday the 8th, things wake up. We see a big jump in swell, hitting 8ft from the SE with an 11-second period. The combined energy is a solid 1836, so there's plenty of power. But the wind is cross-shore, which will keep it a bit bumpy and messy. At this size, it’s expert territory only. Thursday the 9th is similar, dropping slightly to 7ft, but still with that cross-shore wind.
By Friday the 10th, the swell backs off to 5ft, but the wind is still a factor. For the rest of the second week, we’re looking at tiny, weak waves with the odd glassy morning, like Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th, offering nothing more than ankle-snappers. There’s even a day of next to nothing on the 15th and 16th.
The true highlight is that Friday afternoon session on the 3rd of July. It’s small and clean, the kind of surf that’s a gem for the logs and fishes. The water temp is about average for this time of year. After that, we’re waiting until the 8th for the big stuff, but the conditions will be challenging. Even the later pulse on the 18th of July brings a 4ft swell but with a cross-shore wind that won’t help.
Hang in there, the glassy window on Friday 3rd is your best bet.
