The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s coming up.
To be honest, the next seven days are a pretty tough watch. We’ve got a massive pulse of swell coming in, but it’s absolutely hammered by strong southerly winds, making a mess of things. The standout window is a specific, short-lived window of clean conditions that pops up mid-week, and then a sneaky, glassy moment down the track.
The first real shot of decent surf is on Wednesday, July 22. Overnight, the wind drops right out, and Norries Head wakes up to glassy conditions. The swell will be a clean 6 ft from the east, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (516), and it’s going to be very good. This is your best bet for a smooth session. The afternoon stays glassy, with a slight air, and the swell eases to 6 ft, still offering good waves. After that, the wind swings back onshore and the swell fades quickly, dropping below 3 ft by Friday.
The following week starts flat and small, with nothing but poor conditions until we get to Thursday, July 30. You’ll see a clean, offshore westerly wind blowing at 12 mph, but the swell is unfortunately tiny at 2 ft from the SE. The energy is weak (169), and the conditions are clean but the waves are just surfable, not good.
The real long-range gem is the last day of the month. On Friday, July 31 in the afternoon, the wind goes glassy and a solid 8 ft swell from the SE rolls in with a short period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to a strong 697. This is a punchy wave for experts only, and it will be breaking steep. It’s a promising end to the outlook, but we’re looking at a full week away, so treat it with cautious optimism.
