Table - best surf conditions forecast for Norries Head over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. We’ve got a 16-day window, and it’s a bit of a slow burn with a couple of moments worth getting excited about. The first real action comes in the middle of next week, but we’ll walk through it from the top.
Norries Head is our only spot on the table. Right now, Friday morning (10th July) and into the weekend, we’re looking at a messy, lumpy 6 ft SE swell with a short 10-second period. The combined energy (925) is moderate, but that cross-shore wind has it all chopped up. Not worth your time.
Saturday morning (11th July) is a real tease. The swell drops to 3 ft from the ESE, but the period stretches to 13 seconds and the wind goes glassy. That’s a clean, pretty little wave, but it’s small and only packing 195 units of energy. It’s surfable, but you’ll be scratching for something decent. The water is sitting at 70°, which is about normal for this time of year.
Sunday morning (12th July) is the first real standout. The swell is 4 ft from the SE, period 10 seconds, and we get a clean offshore from the NW at 9 mph. The energy is moderate (253), and the break should be offering some tidy, clean lines. The crowd factor is worth noting – Norries Head can get a bit busy, but this early in the week, you might dodge the worst of it.
Then we hit a long dry spell. From Monday (13th July) through to the following Saturday (18th July), the swell drops off a cliff. Waves are tiny, under 2 ft, with weak energy readings in the teens and twenties. The wind is all over the place, and it’s just poor. A solid 5-day gap with nothing worth paddling out for.
Sunday morning (19th July) brings a bit of a pulse back, but it’s not great. The afternoon, however, is interesting: an 8 ft SE swell with an 11-second period and a massive 1590 combined energy. That’s a lot of water moving. Problem is, the wind is cross-onshore, so it’ll be lumpy and choppy. This one is for experienced surfers only – that’s a big, raw swell and it’s not clean.
The final few days, from Monday (20th July) to Thursday (23rd July), are a mix of tiny, glassy mornings and onshore afternoons. Nothing to write home about until Thursday morning (23rd July) when the swell is only 2 ft. But keep an eye on Thursday afternoon (23rd July): the swell jumps to 4 ft from the SE, period 11 seconds, with glassy conditions. The energy is moderate (319) and it’s clean. That’s another promising session, but it’s still a week away so don’t lock it in.
The very last day, Saturday morning (25th July), is flat.
The standout window: Your best bet is Sunday morning (12th July). The 4 ft SE swell with offshore wind will be clean, and the energy is moderate (253). Norries Head is a point break, so that longer period will wrap in nicely. It’s a beginner-friendly size, but with the crowds, you’ll want to get there early. Definitely the pick of the 16 days.
