The Lowdown
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s headed our way for Norries Head. This is a point break – beginner-friendly when it’s working, but it’s inconsistent and can get crowded. The water temperature is sitting at 69.6°, which is pretty much average for this time of year. No unusual warmth or chill.
Right now, the surf is a mess. Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th are straight write-offs – big lumpy swell in the 13ft to 16ft range with strong cross-onshore winds, terrible conditions. That whole weekend is a no-go.
Monday the 20th stays ugly – still 10ft–11.5ft of choppy cross-on mess, not worth paddling out. Tuesday the 21st the swell drops to about 7ft in the morning and 6ft in the arvo, but it’s still cross-on and fairly choppy. The combined energy is moderate (861 in the morning, 565 in the afternoon). It’s marginal at best – you might get a few, but you’ll work for ’em.
Now, Wednesday the 22nd is where it gets interesting. Morning sees 5ft swell from the east, period 9 seconds, and the wind goes glassy – dead calm. The combined energy is 351, so moderate but clean. That’s the standout window. The afternoon stays glassy with 4ft east swell, period 8 seconds, energy 222. Small, yes, but glassy and clean on a point break. That’s your best bet in the entire 16-day stretch. Just be aware it’s inconsistent here, so don’t expect non-stop sets, but when they come they’ll be tidy.
Thursday the 23rd starts glassy with 3ft swell but then goes onshore, so not worth it. From Friday the 24th all the way through to the end of July, it’s tiny – most days under 2ft, poor winds, no energy. That’s a solid week of flatness or near-flat conditions.
Then we see a pulse around Saturday the 1st of August and Sunday the 2nd. Swell picks up to 8ft on Saturday morning (8ft afternoon) but it’s short-period (7–8 seconds) with a cross
