Table - best surf conditions forecast for Merewether - Ladies over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with the long-range look for Merewether - Ladies.
It’s a bit of a mixed bag across the next two weeks, with a clear standout early on and then a long, quiet spell before things might perk up again. The water temp is sitting at 66°F, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The best bet on offer is this Friday morning, the 10th. We’ve got a solid 6ft swell rolling in from the SE with a 10-second period, and combined energy reading 527 (moderate). The wind is a light 5 km/h cross-off from the west, which will have the reef looking clean. Considering the scale, this is the pick of the outlook. It’s a very consistent spot, so expect a few others out, but the quality should be worth the company.
Friday afternoon, the wind swings onshore from the SE, which will mess it up, so the morning session is the go.
Saturday morning the 11th, the swell drops to 4ft, but we’ve got a clean 15 km/h offshore wind from the NW. It’ll be smaller and more gentle, but still fun for an intermediate. The period drops to 9 seconds so it’s a bit more local chop. Saturday afternoon stays clean with a 20 km/h NNW offshore, but the swell is down to 3ft.
Sunday the 12th through to Tuesday the 14th is a write-off. Swell bottoms out, dropping to 0.3ft, and even with offshore winds, there’s no energy. Combined energy readings are down in the teens or twenties (weak). You’re looking at a flat spell of about three days.
Wednesday the 15th sees a bump in swell to 5ft, but it’s accompanied by a strong 25 km/h cross-onshore wind from the south. The period is short at 10 seconds, and the energy is 668 (moderate), but the wind will make it a choppy mess. Not worth it for paddle surfing – this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing.
The rest of the first week and into the second week stays average. Thursday the 16th has a 6ft south swell, but the wind is cross or cross-onshore. The period is a short 8 seconds, so it’s choppy again.
After that, the swell takes a dive again. There’s a gap of poor conditions from the 17th to the 18th, with some small, messy E swells that don’t get a clean wind window.
Things start to look a little more promising around Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th. Both mornings show a 4ft to 4ft E swell (10-second period) with a light cross-off wind from the north. Combined energy is around 310 (moderate). It’s not a standout, but it’s the best of the second week. The crowd factor is still there, but it’ll be cleaner.
Tuesday the 21st morning has a 3ft E swell with a strong 25 km/h offshore from the WNW – clean, but small. The rest of the outlook from Wednesday the 22nd onward fades into small, weak swells with periods under 10 seconds and energy readings mostly under 100 (weak). There’s a brief moment on Thursday the 23rd afternoon where the wind goes glassy, but the swell is only 2ft and from the south, so it’s just a tiny cleanup.
So to wrap it up: Friday morning the 10th is your clear winner. The second week is marginal, with Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th mornings being the only real windows to keep an eye on, but it’s a long-range call so don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
