Table - best surf conditions forecast for Merewether - Ladies over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Merewether - Ladies over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a rough start. Wednesday morning the 8th is a write-off – we’re looking at a messy 2.5m SE swell hitting the reef on a cross-onshore SSE breeze. The combined energy is strong at 1786, but with that wind, it’s just not gonna be a fun paddle. Conditions stay pretty average through Thursday and Friday, with the swell dropping from 1.9m down to 1.5m but still with cross or onshore winds. The energy drops right off too, down to 481 by Friday morning. Honestly, not much to get excited about for the first few days.
The first real glimmer of hope comes in on Saturday the 11th morning. We get a beautiful NW offshore breeze, light at 15 km/h, cleaning up a 1.1m SE swell. The water temp is about average for this time of year. The energy is moderate at 378, and the period is 9 seconds – a bit short, but with that offshore wind, the waves will be clean and lined up. This is a reef break that’s very consistent and exposed to the swell, so it should handle the energy well. It’s an intermediate-level wave, and it can get crowded sometimes, so get in early. This Saturday morning session is probably the best on offer in the whole forecast.
By Saturday afternoon the swell drops to 0.9m, and Sunday the 12th sees even smaller surf with a strong W wind, dropping energy to just 105. The swell drops to 0.5m on Sunday afternoon. There’s a bit of a lull through Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th, with tiny 0.5m to 0.7m waves hanging around. The wind stays offshore or cross-offshore, but there’s just not enough size to do much.
Wednesday the 15th is flat with a 0.2m, long-period 16-second pulse from the south, but no energy (37) and no shape.
Things get a bit of a spike on Thursday the 16th, but it’s grim. A fresh onshore SSE wind at 30 km/h rips into a building 1.7m S swell, and by the afternoon it’s 2m with a 35 km/h cross-onshore. The energy jumps to 918, but it’s windy, lumpy, and messy – kite-surfing conditions more than paddling. That pattern holds through Friday the 17th with onshore wind and lumpy 1.9m surf. Not worth it.
After that, the swell fades fast. Saturday the 18th has a weak 0.8m S swell, and from Sunday the 19th through to Wednesday the 22nd, we’re looking at a long gap of tiny waves – mostly 0.4m to 0.6m, with very low energy (under 100). The wind is often clean or offshore, but there’s simply no push. Thursday the 23rd morning sees a 0.6m ENE swell with a moderate cross-offshore WSW wind, but the energy is still weak at 63. Not a standout by any stretch.
So to sum it up: the only session that really sings is Saturday the 11th morning. Light offshore, clean 1.1m waves, and a reef that loves that SE direction. The rest of the two weeks is either too windy, too small, or both. Get out for that Saturday morning window if you can.
Rusty.
