Table - best surf conditions forecast for Merewether - Ladies over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, and I've got the lowdown on the next couple of weeks. The main game in town is Merewether – Ladies, a reef setup that's our go-to. Let's get into it.
The coming days are looking solid for a bit of a run. Thursday morning, the 9th of July, is a real standout. We've got a clean 7ft swell pushing in from the SE, with a nice 10-second period and a light cross-offshore breeze. The water's sitting at 66°, which is pretty much spot on average for this time of year. The energy is moderate, sitting at 862, and it’s setting up for some very good surf. It's a spot that can get busy, so keep that in mind.
Friday morning, the 10th, is also looking good. A little smaller at 6ft from the SE, but still with that 10-second period. The wind swings around to the west and goes cross-offshore again, keeping things clean. The swell energy is a bit lower at 527, but still a good morning out there.
The weekend will see the swell drop right off. Saturday, the 11th, has a small 3ft swell from the ESE, but it's clean with a nice offshore wind from the NW. The period stretches out to 12 seconds, which is a long-period groundswell. That means longer waits between sets, but the waves that come through will have more shape. The combined energy is weak at 419, so it's not a day for power, just for a fun cruise on a longboard.
From Sunday the 12th right through to about Wednesday the 15th, the surf goes flat. The swell drops to under 3ft, and the wind, while sometimes offshore, is just too strong to make it worthwhile. It's a proper gap with no real recommendations.
Then things get big and ugly. From Thursday the 16th of July, for a few days, a massive swell arrives. We're talking 16ft to 18ft from the SSE, with a period of 10-12 seconds. The energy readings are off the charts, hitting 7634. But the wind is howling onshore from the SE, creating terrible conditions. This is not for paddling; this is a full-on, big-wave, onshore mess. The break is a reef, so it's for experts only, and even then, the wind is going to ruin it. It's more of a kite-surfing sort of show.
That big swell drops off a bit, but stays messy through the 19th. The real gem is the following Monday, the 20th of July. The wind swings back offshore from the WNW, the swell is back to a clean 5ft from the SE with a 10-second period, and the energy is a solid 694. It’s going to be very good surf again.
The final standout is a week later, on Friday, the 24th of July. A fresh 7ft ESE swell, with a 10-second period, and a clean offshore wind from the NW. The energy is strong at 1088, and it's labelled as excellent for experienced surfers. This is a day to have circled on the calendar.
So, to sum it up, the best windows are Thursday and Friday mornings this week, and then look ahead to Monday the 20th and Friday the 24th for the next clean, solid swells.
Rusty.
