Table - best surf conditions forecast for Merewether - Ladies over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at Merewether - Ladies for the next couple of weeks.
We kick off on Friday, July 10th, with some solid surf. The water temp is about average for the season. Friday morning brings a 6ft SE swell with a 10-second period and moderate energy (527). The wind is a light cross-off from the WSW, keeping things tidy. The real gem is the afternoon – the swell holds at 6ft from the SE, but the wind goes glassy with a slight SSE breeze. That’s prime, clean surfing.
Saturday the 11th is another good one. The morning has a clean 4ft SE swell with a solid NW offshore breeze, making for gentle offshore conditions. The energy is still moderate (398). The afternoon drops to 3ft from the ESE with a longer 11-second period, and a moderate NW offshore keeps the waves clean. Classic fun-sized conditions.
Sunday the 12th fades fast. The morning is a clean 3ft, but the WNW wind is blowing a strong 30 km/h and cross-off, and the energy is down to 138. By the afternoon, it’s tiny at 2ft. Not worth suiting up.
Monday and Tuesday the 13th and 14th are small and ordinary. Waist-high at best, with very low energy (down to 13 on Tuesday). The wind is offshore, so it’s pretty, but there’s no power.
Then Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th get nasty. A big southerly swell builds, but it’s wrecked by strong cross and cross-onshore winds. The energy jumps to 1842 and then 3437, but the quality is poor – lumpy, choppy, and cross-on. This is more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddling one.
The big standout. Friday the 17th of July. The swell hits 18ft from the SE with a 12-second period, and the combined energy is massive at 8536. The wind is a gentle cross-off from the SW, keeping it clean. This is exceptional surf, but only for expert surfers. 18ft is huge. The reef will handle that long-period groundswell well, but it’ll be a big, powerful wave. Crowds are possible, so get there early.
Saturday the 18th is still enormous but tricky. The morning has an 18ft SSE swell with a 13-second period and a light W cross-off, but the energy is insane at 17033. The forecast says it might be too big for the break. The afternoon turns onshore from the SSE, making it messy. For the hardcore only.
Sunday the 19th backs off to a much more manageable 10ft from the SE with a nice NW offshore breeze. The energy is still strong (1894), but the wind is clean and offshore. Excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon stays clean with an 8ft SE swell.
The run continues into Monday the 20th with a clean 6ft SE swell and a NW offshore breeze. The energy is moderate (664), and conditions are very good.
After that, the swell fades through the 21st and 22nd, with small, messy waves and little energy. There’s a small bump on the 23rd, nothing special.
The final highlight: Saturday the 25th of July. A solid 10ft S swell with a very long 13-second period and a clean NW offshore breeze. The energy is strong at 3253. This is excellent for experienced surfers, but that long-period groundswell will be better on the reef than at a beach break. It’s a promising end to the outlook, but it’s far out, so keep an eye on it.
The best bet overall is Friday the 17th of July for the big, clean, expert-level swell. The weekend of the 19th-20th is also a winner for strong but surfable waves.
Rusty.
