Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s comin’ for this stretch of coast.

First up, don’t bother paddlin’ out this Friday afternoon (July 3rd). We got a tiny 1ft swell from the ENE with a fresh cross-off breeze. It’s clean but there’s no juice – combined energy is only 33. Not worth the suit-up.

Saturday mornin’ (July 4th) is where things start lookin’ up. A clean 3ft S swell with an 11-second period and light offshore wind from the WNW. The combined energy jumps to 269, so there’s a bit of push. That long period means better shaped waves, and with the offshore wind, it’ll be clean. This is your pick for the small window of quality surf this weekend.

Sunday (July 5th) is a write-off. A buildin’ 8ft S swell but it’s all onshore wind – strong cross-onshore from the S all day, turnin’ the ocean into a lumpy mess. Combined energy is huge (1645 Sunday mornin’, 1377 afternoon) but the wind kills it. That size is gettin’ into expert territory anyway, but with that wind, even they’d struggle.

Monday (July 6th) through to Thursday (July 9th) is a long stretch of poor to marginal conditions. Swell hangs around 7ft to 10ft from the SSE, with moderate to fresh onshore or cross-onshore winds. Occasionally it’s cross-shore but with a chop. The energy stays high (881 up to 2608), but the quality is just not there. The water temperature is 67°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothin’ unusual there.

Then we get a proper standout. Friday mornin’, July 10th at Merewether - Ladies (reef). A clean 7ft SSE swell with a 10-second period, and a light cross-off breeze from the WSW. Combined energy is 937 – solid moderate energy. The wind will have it glassy. That’s a great session if you can get out. Just keep in mind, it’s a reef break so watch the tide.

Saturday (July 11th) keeps the good vibes goin’. Mornin’ offers a 5ft SE swell with light cross-off wind and clean conditions. Then Saturday afternoon goes glassy – 5 km/h S wind, 4ft SSE swell, and a combined energy of 288. That’s a beauty of a session for the afternoon.

Sunday (July 12th) is smaller but still rideable. Offshore wind from the NNW in the mornin’ gives us clean 3ft SE swell (95 energy). By the afternoon it’s light offshore from the NW and clean, but tiny – 2ft. Ordinary, but you could snag a few on a log.

Monday (July 13th) is a wipeout. Tiny 0.7ft ESE swell and strong offshore wind. Not worth it.

Now for the second week. Tuesday mornin’, July 14th is another standout. Clean 7ft S swell with a solid 11-second period and moderate offshore wind from the WNW. Combined energy is 974. That’s a proper groundswell. It’ll have good shape and be clean. This is the best of the whole 16-day window. Long period S swells like this love the reef setup here.

The rest of the second week is a mix of marginal and poor. Wednesday (July 15th) holds 7ft to 7ft with cross-off wind and clean faces, but the wind is fresh at 30 km/h. Thursday (July 16th) drops off fast, and by Friday (July 17th) through to Saturday (July 18th) we’re back to small, messy, onshore crud. Energy drops below 150.

So, to sum it up: the best bets are Saturday mornin’ (July 4th) for a small clean session, Friday mornin’ (July 10th) for a really clean 7ft swell, and the highlight is Tuesday mornin’ (July 14th) – big, clean, good period S swell. That’s the one to circle on the calendar.

Rusty.
