The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, let’s break down what’s on the cards for Merewether – Ladies.
It’s a slow start, no two ways about it. The first few days are a total loss – onshore winds, lumpy, and unrideable. From Friday 17 July through the weekend, don’t bother. It’s poor.
Tuesday 21 July morning shows a bit of life. A light offshore from the NNW, clean conditions, with a 4ft swell from the ENE, period 10 seconds. The energy is moderate (322). It’s a reef break, very consistent, and crowds are sometimes around. The water temp is 65°, which is about normal for the season.
Now, the one to get excited about is Friday 24 July. That morning we’ve got a solid 8ft south swell, period 9 seconds, and the energy is strong (1895). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the WSW, so it’ll be clean. That’s expert-only territory – big, powerful waves. If you’re not experienced, sit this one out.
After that, the swell fades fast. The weekend of 26 July is tiny, just 1ft to 2ft leftovers with onshore breezes. Not worth it.
Tuesday 28 July looks decent for a small-wave session – a clean 3ft to 3ft south swell, with a moderate offshore from the NW, and moderate energy (232 and 218). Not a standout, but a solid little session.
Looking further out, Saturday 1 August shows a 3ft south swell with a very long period of 17 seconds, and a cross-offshore wind. The energy is strong (610). That’s a long-period groundswell – it’ll have gaps between sets, but the reef could handle it well. Worth watching, but it’s a long way off.
The rest of the forecast is mostly small and ordinary, with a few clean mornings but nothing special.
The best bets are Friday 24 July morning for the big stuff, and Tuesday 28 July for a clean, mellow session.
Rusty.
