The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let’s take a look at what’s coming down the line for Merewether - Ladies.
Right off the bat, don’t bother paddling out for the next few days, the forecast is ugly with nothing on offer until Sunday the 23rd of August.
Sunday morning the 23rd is when we finally see some life. We’ve got a solid 3ft south swell rolling in with a period of 11 seconds, giving us moderate wave energy (261). It’s a bit on the longer side, so the waves will have some shape and punch, but it might be a little straight at this break being a reef. The offshore wind is light and cross-off from the NNE, so the face will be clean. It’s not huge, but it’s a proper session and a good sign things are waking up. The water temp is 63°F, which is a bit colder than what we’d normally expect for this time of year.
Monday the 24th keeps the run going. Another 3ft south swell, same 10-second period, and similar energy (264). Clean morning with a light cross-off from the NNE. This is consistent surf, nothing epic, but you’ll get your board wet in clean conditions.
Now, Tuesday the 25th morning is interesting. A 4ft north-east swell, but it’s short period at 6 seconds. The energy kicks up to 209 (moderate), and the wind stays light and cross-off from the north. It’s not groundswell, so don’t expect perfection, but it’s rideable and clean.
The real standout for the whole outlook slams in on Saturday the 5th of September. Saturday morning we’ve got a 5ft south swell with a 10-second period, and the combined energy jumps to a strong 580. That’s proper grunt. The wind is light offshore from the NNW. That 5ft with those conditions will be clean and powerful, and it’s about as good as it gets in this window. This one’s worth marking on the calendar.
There’s also Thursday the 3rd of September morning. A south swell at 3ft with an 11-second period and 217 energy. Clean conditions with a light cross-off. It’s a smaller but tidy option if you want a relaxed session without the crowd.
Other days are mostly small, weak, blown out, or just messy. There’s a long dry stretch from the 28th of August right through to the beginning of September until Thursday the 3rd, with only poor conditions in between.
So to wrap it up: the absolute best on offer is Saturday the 5th of September morning. That 5ft south swell with light offshore wind is your best chance for a proper session. Second pick is Sunday the 23rd of August morning, as a solid clean start to the swell window.
Rusty.
