The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming down the pipe for Linda Lane Beach. Honestly, straight up, this isn't a vintage stretch of days. We've got a bit of swell trickling in, but the quality is just off. The water temp is sitting at a weirdly warm 76°, which is way hotter than normal for this time of year—more than three degrees above average, so it's like a warm bath out there.
The first real chance to get wet is from Thursday, August 6th, but don't get your hopes up. The swell is tiny, around 2ft from the SSW, and the wind is cross-on from the WSW at 6 mph. The energy is weak, sitting at just 203. It's small, it's messy, and the report says poor surf.
We roll into Friday, August 7th, and things look a little better on paper with a longer period of 19 seconds (that's proper groundswell) and swelling up to 2ft, but the morning wind is onshore and the waves are junk. The afternoon is cross-on and choppy. The energy is moderate (449), but it's not translating to good rides.
This pattern just repeats itself. Through the weekend and into the next week, we see swell sizes bobbling between 2ft and 4ft, mostly from the SSW or SW, with periods that occasionally drop into less interesting territory (13 seconds). The wind is constantly either onshore or cross-onshore, mostly from the W or WSW at 6-9 mph. The wave energy ticks up into the 400s and even 700s (756 on Friday the 14th), which is solid moderate energy for a beach break, but it's all for nothing because the surf conditions are marked as "poor" or just "marginal."
On Saturday, August 15th, the swell bumps up to 4ft in the afternoon with a period of 16 seconds and energy hitting 724. That's the biggest swell of the whole window, but the wind is a cross-onshore mess from the W at 9 mph. For a spot like Linda Lane, which is exposed but needs the right combo, that wind is a killer. It's just going to be blown-out, choppy closeouts.
There are a few days like Wednesday, August 19th, and Friday, August 21st where the reports say "marginal." On those days, the wind is lighter or sometimes straight onshore from the SW or SSW at just 6 mph, but the swell is small (2ft to 3ft) and the period is okay but not pumping.
So what's the best on offer? Honestly, it's slim pickings. If I had to point you to one window, I'd say keep an eye on Friday afternoon, August 14th, through Saturday morning, August 15th. That's when the combined swell energy ramps up to 756 and then 655 (moderate energy), and the swell is sitting around 3ft to 3ft with a 16-18 second period. The wind is still cross-on, but it's a light to gentle breeze. The waves won't be perfect, but there might be a cleaner set or two to be had if you're willing to work for it. Don't expect any standouts.
Given almost every report says 'poor surf conditions' or 'marginal,' and the wind is never offshore and glassy, you could be forgiven for thinking this setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer when that energy is up on the 14th and 15th. It's a tough run for a straight paddle.
Stay patient, mate. It tends not to stay this average forever.
