The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what T-Street has in store for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it’s a slow start. The first few days are looking pretty flat and messy, with hardly any push. We’ve got a bit of a wait on our hands. The water is 70°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year—so at least you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th are a write-off. Tiny swell, poor conditions, and onshore crud. You’ll be better off staying home. Thursday and Friday aren’t much better; the wind is blowing cross-on and the waves are small and choppy. Nothing worth paddling out for.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Saturday the 18th. We’ve got a light offshore wind from the SSW, and the swell bumps up to 3 ft from the SW. The energy is moderate (420–484), but it’s still marginal. The waves are likely to be a bit weak and tricky with the tide. For a beginner, it might be worth a look, but it’s not going to blow anyone away.
Sunday the 19th sees a bit more size, with 4 ft S swell pushing in and a longer 12-second period. That’s more like it. The wind is offshore from the WSW in the morning, and the energy is strong (806–931). The issue is the swell direction is a bit off for T-Street’s optimum SW, and the waves might be a little lumpy. Still, it’s the best we’ve seen so far.
The standout window is looking like Thursday the 24th through Saturday the 26th. That’s where the real juice is. On Thursday the 24th, we’ve got 5 ft S swell with a 13-second period and a light cross-shore wind from the WNW in the morning. The energy is strong (1007–1158). This is a legit swell, but at 5 ft, it’s getting into the zone where it’s too big for beginners. For the crew who know what they’re doing, it’s game on. The swell direction is a bit south of ideal, but the size and period are there.
Friday the 25th holds similar size, 5 ft from the SSW, with a very light breeze. The energy is cranking (1439 in the morning). This is the biggest and most powerful swell of the whole forecast. The waves will be solid, but the cross-on wind might keep it a bit lumpy. It’s going to be a proper session for the experienced guys.
Saturday the 26th starts with a dropping swell (3 ft from the SSW) but look at that period—19 seconds. That’s a very long-period groundswell. The energy is still strong (1346). This is the kind of swell that will wrap into T-Street and give you some long, clean lines, especially with the offshore wind in the morning. It’s a classic point-and-reef setup, so the long period will be a treat. This is my pick of the whole outlook, but it’s a week and a half away, so keep an eye on the forecasts.
After that, things settle back down. The last few days of July and into early August are back to small, choppy, and mostly onshore slop. Not much to get excited about.
Overall, there’s a decent run of surf from the 19th, but the real standout is the 24th to the 26th. Don’t bother before that. T-Street can get crowded, so be prepared to share the peak, especially if the swell is good.
Rusty.
