The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – this 16-day outlook for our region is a tough one. We’re looking at a long, lean stretch with barely a ripple worth getting wet for. The good news? There’s a tiny glimmer right at the very end, but you’ll need some patience.

The story starts on Friday the 4th of September, and it’s not pretty. For over two weeks, we’re looking at flat to tiny surf, with most days offering nothing more than knee-high slop or dribble. The wave energy is pitiful, with most readings well under 100 (weak energy), and we’re stuck with short-period windswell that just won’t line up. The wind is all over the shop – cross-shore, onshore, you name it – and it’s keeping everything messy.

There’s a brief moment on Monday the 7th of September, morning, where things get glassy at La Playita. The water temp is sitting at 75°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. But the swell is only 1ft from the west with a 14-second period. That’s a long-period groundswell, and while it has some decent energy (56 – still weak), it’s just not enough to push anything rideable. It’s a tease. The rest of that week is more of the same – a mix of tiny waves and shifty winds.

We don’t see anything worth calling a surf until Saturday the 19th of September, afternoon. That’s the first real blip on the radar. La Playita picks up a 5ft swell from the southeast with a period of 6 seconds – short-period stuff – but the combined energy jumps to 184 (moderate). The wind is blowing cross-offshore from the ESE at 35 km/h, which will clean up the faces, but it’s still a tricky, short-period wave. It’s the only standout in the whole 16 days, and honestly, it’s a “maybe” for a fun session if you’re keen, but it’s not a classic. This is the best on offer, but it’s not setting the world on fire.

For the rest of the run, you might as well leave the board in the car. From the 4th of September right through to the morning of the 19th, there’s a solid 15-day gap of near-nothing. The wind does go clean cross-off a few times, especially around the 14th to 17th of September, but the swell is so tiny (0.7ft to 3ft) that you’d be scratching for a ripple. It’s just one of those blank runs for the area – the forecasts can change, but right now, it’s dry.

Stay patient, surfers. Rusty out.

Short Range Forecast

Mostly dry. Warm (max 34°C on Sat afternoon, min 24°C on Fri morning). Winds increasing (calm on Fri night, fresh winds from the ESE by Sat afternoon).

Days 4-6 Weather Summary

Mostly dry. Warm (max 33°C on Mon afternoon, min 20°C on Wed morning). Wind will be generally light.
