The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
To be honest, it’s a quiet stretch. The forecast is showing a whole lot of nothing for the first week, with a long gap of tiny or flat conditions. We’re looking at almost no surf worth talking about until the end of the month, and even then, it’s not exactly lighting up the charts.
The best bet, and really the only one that stands out, is on Monday the 24th of August. Kennack Sands will see a bump in swell from the east, pushing to about 5 feet, with a combined energy of 223 (moderate). The period is a short 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit of a windswell, not a clean groundswell. The wind is a strong cross-onshore breeze from the east-northeast at 25 mph, which will make things messy. It’s a beach break, and with the wind and short period, this setup actually looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It’s also a beginner-friendly spot, but that 5 feet with onshore wind will be a handful for less experienced crew. Crowds are possible here.
After that, the swell drops off again. There’s a tiny pulse on the 29th of August from the south-southwest at about 4 feet, but the wind is cross-onshore and choppy, so it’s not a call to arms.
The water temperature is sitting at 66°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, so you won’t need a thick suit.
Overall, it’s a lean forecast. There’s a big gap of flat days, and the only real pulse is a messy one.
Rusty.
