The Lowdown
Alright, it's Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's coming up for our stretch of coast. I'm gonna be straight with you – this forecast is a tough one. We're looking at a long, long stretch of flatness and poor conditions, so don't get your hopes up too quickly.
The first week is pretty much a write-off. We kick off on Wednesday, July 15th, with a weak, messy 4ft easterly windswell at Kennack Sands, but it's got a short 6-second period and cross-on 15 mph winds, making it choppy and poor. The water's sitting at 66°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a solid 5° above average. That's a nice surprise for your morning coffee, but it won't help the waves. The combined energy is only moderate at 150.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are even smaller, with waves barely reaching 3ft, and the energy drops off a cliff. There's a brief moment on Thursday afternoon when the wind goes glassy, but with only 3ft of weak swell, it's not enough to get excited about. From Saturday the 18th, it's completely flat through to the end of the week. The only thing moving is the wind, and it's mostly onshore or cross-off, doing nothing for the surf.
We hit a full blank run from July 18th right through to the morning of July 28th. That's over a week with zero rideable waves. It's a tough stretch, and Kennack Sands is an inconsistent beginner spot that's sheltered from most swell, so this kind of flat spell isn't uncommon here.
Finally, on Tuesday, July 28th, we see a tiny pulse. The afternoon brings a 2ft swell from the SSW with a period of 5 seconds, and the wind is offshore from the NW at 15 mph. The combined energy is a weak 33. The waves are clean, but it's small, weak, and only just about enough for a longboard or a foamie. The best you'll find in this entire 16-day window is that Tuesday afternoon session, but even then, it's a tough sell. If you're desperate, you might get a knee-high glider.
For the rest of the period, it's a mix of flat spells and tiny, weak windswell. The crowd profile at Kennack Sands says it can get busy, but with conditions this poor, you'll have the place to yourself. There's nothing here for anyone looking for a proper wave.
Rusty.
