The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you. For the next sixteen days, it is a bit of a write-off here at Kennack Sands. We're looking at a blank run of poor surf conditions right the way through. Don't get your hopes up for any standout sessions.
The pattern is flat and frustrating. We start off on Friday the 21st of August with tiny 0.7 ft waves. Sure, there's a decent 13-second period from the SSW, and the wind is offshore or cross-off, giving us clean conditions, but the combined swell energy is a feeble 22, barely enough to wet your board. It stays that small through the weekend. Saturday the 22nd is even worse, with a 1 ft swell from the ENE and a period of 2 seconds, giving a laughable energy reading of 1. That's just wind chop.
Things try to build around Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th, with the swell getting up to 5 ft and 7 ft, but it's a messy ESE windswell with a 6-second period. The energy readings jump up to 137 and 326, but it's all for nothing with that 28 mph cross-onshore wind turning the place into a washing machine. By Wednesday the 26th, we've got 6 ft of SSW swell with a 7-second period and 403 of combined energy, but again, the wind is cross or cross-shore, making it lumpy and choppy. That's a setup that looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
There's not a single day where the stars align. Even when the swell has some potential, the wind is junk, and when the wind is good, the swell is gone. Towards the end of the run, on the 3rd of September, we get a glassy morning with a tiny 1 ft groundswell from the SSW (period 15 seconds) offering 46 of energy. Clean, yes, but you'd need a longboard and a prayer. Nothing rides above a zero score in the surf quality department.
So, the honest truth? There are no good surf options in this 16-day window. Kennack Sands is an inconsistent, sheltered spot, and this forecast is a bleak one. A blank run like this is more normal for the area, unfortunately. Forecasts can always change, but right now, save your petrol and keep the boards in the shed.
