Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kennack Sands over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: this is a tough one for Kennack Sands. The whole 16-day stretch is a write-off for any decent surf, so I’m calling this one a blank run. The only break on the radar isn’t offering anything worth paddling out for.
We’ve got a dive in the deep end of the water temp anomaly, which is sitting at a very unusual 3° warmer than normal, hitting 66°F. That’s way above what you’d expect for this time of year, but it’s not going to make up for the lack of waves.
From Sunday 12 July right through to the end, the story is mostly poor surf conditions. On the 12th, we’ve got a 7ft swell from the east, but it’s short period at 7 seconds and cross-onshore winds at 25 mph. The energy is moderate (538) but it’s messy and blown out. Monday 13 July sees a bigger 10ft east swell with a period of 9 seconds and a strong 1510 energy reading, but with near gale cross-onshore winds at 31 mph, it’s a complete mess – only for the hardcore or the kite crew. The setup here is a beach, so with that much wind and swell, it’s honestly looking more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The rest of the week is a slow fade. Tuesday 14 July has some 5-6ft waves, but still cross-onshore and lumpy. By Wednesday 15 July, the swell drops to a tiny 0.7ft, and from there we’re into a long stretch of flat or near-flat conditions. There’s a few days in the second week with some clean offshore winds, but the swell is barely a bump – 0.3ft to 0.7ft at best. Even Saturday 25 July shows a late 5ft from the SW, but with a short period of 5 seconds and 140 energy, it’s not going to be quality.
The break is inconsistent and sheltered, and this stretch of poor surf is normal for the area. There’s nothing to get excited about, but forecasts can change. For now, leave the boards at home.
Rusty.
