Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kennack Sands over the next 16 days.
Right, folks, Rusty here. I’ve had a look at the charts for Kennack Sands, and I’ll be straight with you – it’s a grim stretch ahead. We’re looking at a run of poor surf that just doesn’t let up for the whole 16-day window. There’s nothing to get excited about, so keep the board in the shed for now.
The water at Kennack Sands is sitting at 66°, which is a whopping 6° warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s very unusual, and while it might be nice for a swim, it doesn’t help the waves.
Starting on Sunday the 12th, we’ve got a windy, messy 8ft swell from the east with a short, weak period of 7 seconds. The wind is howling at 28 mph straight onshore, and the combined energy is a moderate 542. It’s just blown out and ugly. Monday the 13th is even worse, with a 10ft east swell that’s packing 1606 in combined energy, but it’s a near-gale cross-onshore mess. That’s well over 8ft, so it’s expert-only territory, but even then, it’s not worth it. The wind eases a little through the week, but the swell drops off a cliff. By Wednesday the 15th, we’re down to 3ft and the energy is a weak 52. The wind is still cross-onshore, leaving it choppy and rubbish.
From Thursday the 16th onwards, the swell is essentially dead. We’re looking at tiny bumps of 0.7ft to 1ft for days, with very weak energy readings in the single digits. The wind does go light offshore or cross-off from the 19th, leading to clean, glassy conditions, but with a swell height of just 0.3ft and energy of 4 or 5, it’s flat. There’s no wave to ride. The wind is clean, but there’s nothing on it.
This is a total blank run. Kennack Sands is a sheltered, inconsistent spot, and this forecast shows why. It’s not unusual for this area to have long stretches with no real surf, and this is one of them. The only saving grace is that the wind turns offshore for the second half of the period, but without a proper swell, it’s just a flat, clean ocean. Honestly, if you’re desperate for a paddle, you’d be better off looking for a lake.
Stay patient, and keep an eye on the charts. Things can change.
