Right, let's have a look at what's cooking for Kennack Sands. To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty bleak. The first week is a write-off with nothing on offer, and then we’ve got a stretch from the 13th onwards that’s still no good for a paddle. We’re looking at a solid run of poor conditions for most of the forecast period, with not much to get excited about.
Let's start with the beginning of the week. Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th are showing tiny 0.3ft south swell, but it’s so weak it’s not even worth mentioning – we’re talking combined energy of just 10 or less. It’s glassy on Wednesday morning, which looks nice, but there's no wave to ride. That pattern holds through Thursday the 9th, with the same tiny 0.3ft south swell and barely any energy.
Friday the 10th sees a bit of a bump up to 3ft from the east, but with a short period of 4 seconds and a moderate cross-onshore breeze, it’s choppy and weak. The weekend is more of the same. Saturday the 11th has 5ft east swell with a 6-second period, but the cross-onshore wind at 15 mph makes it a messy, choppy affair. The combined energy is 177, which is moderate, but the wind is ruining it.
Now, Sunday the 12th, the swell jumps to 8ft from the east, with a 7-second period and a fresh 22 mph cross-onshore wind. That’s a moderate energy level of 572, but it’s lumpy and blown out. For a sheltered spot, this is all cross-on and messy. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th see the swell holding around 8ft, but the wind cranks up to a strong breeze and near gale, making it totally blown out. This is not paddle surf – it looks more interesting for kite surfing than anything else.
The second week offers a tiny glimmer, but it’s still marginal. Wednesday the 15th morning has an 8ft east swell with a 7-second period and a cross-offshore wind from the west at 9 mph, giving us clean conditions. The combined energy is a strong 706, so there’s plenty of power. However, this is an 8ft wave, which is only for experts, and with a short 7-second period, it’ll be a bit sectiony and unruly. The break is also inconsistent, so don’t expect a wave every set. Thursday the 16th is similar, with 7ft east swell and a cross-shore wind, but it’s still a marginal call.
After that, it all fades away. By the 17th, we’re back to 2ft and smaller, with offshore winds but no size. The 18th to the 22nd is tiny, mostly under 1ft, and the best you’ll get is a clean, knee-high dribble from the east. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no wetsuit surprises.
Honestly, the only day that might get a pulse going is Wednesday the 15th morning for experienced surfers, but even then it’s a gamble with the inconsistency and the short period. There’s no standout here, no real call to action. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but don’t hold your breath.
