The Lowdown
Right then, let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks. I'm not gonna lie to you, it's a bit of a tough watch. Kennack Sands is a sheltered little spot, and it's just not getting the swell it needs to get going. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty flat, with only a few tiny, weak pulses that won't do anything for a surfer.
The water temperature here is sitting at 19°, which is a touch warmer than we'd normally expect for this time of year, so at least you won't be freezing while you're staring at a flat ocean.
For the first few days, right through the end of August, we're barely seeing a ripple. The swell is tiny, around 0.2m, and even though we get some nice offshore winds on Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st, there's just no wave energy to work with. The combined swell energy is pitiful, in the low 20s, so it's a non-starter.
The middle of the window, around the 24th and 25th of August, sees a bit of a bump in size, with the swell height hitting 1.4m and even 2.0m. But the period is a shocking 5 to 7 seconds, which is just wind chop, and the wind is howling onshore at 45 km/h. The combined energy jumps up [(327) on the 24th afternoon], but it's a messy, blown-out sea. That's more of a kite-surfing scene than a paddling one.
After that, it just fades away again. The first week of September is a write-off, with more waves of 0.2m. The only positive is that the water is still a touch warmer than average.
Honestly, there's not a single standout session in the whole forecast. The spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and this is one of those long, flat spells that happens. Keep your eyes on the charts, but don't hold your breath.
