Alright, Rusty here again, lookin’ at the same stretch but in feet and miles. I hate to start on a downer, but this outlook is a tough read. There’s a big, empty gap coming up where we just ain’t got any surf.
Let’s start with Kennack Sands. The first few days have some swell, but the wind is proper nasty. It’s blowing hard from the east, cross-onshore, just wrecking everything. Saturday the 11th has a 4-foot easterly swell with a short 6-second period and weak energy (92), but with that 30 km/h cross-on wind, it’s lumpy junk. Sunday the 12th gets bigger – 6 to 7 feet – but the wind’s even stronger, 40-45 km/h, turning it into a foam party. The combined energy jumps up (371, then 533), but it’s all wind chop.
Monday the 13th sees the biggest swell of the whole run: a 12-foot easterly at 9 seconds, with a massive 1815 combined energy. But it’s underneath 45 km/h cross-onshore winds. That much power with that wind is just chaos and no fun for anyone.
After that, it completely flatlines. From Tuesday the 16th onward, we’re down to tiny 0.5-foot or 1-foot dribbles. The energy is in the teens and twenties, never gets going. The wind does go offshore or cross-off for a lot of that, which would make it clean, but there’s nothing to ride. You’d be floating on a mirror.
There’s a long, solid gap of days with no recommendations. From around the 18th all the way through to the 26th of July, it’s a dead zone. A couple of tiny pulses from the south show up on the 19th (0.5-foot at 20-second period) and the 24th, but the energy is a pathetic 10-17. That’s not a wave, that’s a deep breath.
So, no standouts at all. The cleanest water will be on Wednesday the 16th morning with a light offshore breeze, but the swell is only 0.5-foot from the SSW. Don’t hold your breath.
Water temp is running 19°, which is 3° warmer than average – feels like a warm bath if you’re sat there, but you won’t be.
It’s a grim run. Keep your board in the car, but don’t expect much. Forecasts do change, but this one’s a stinker.
Rusty.
