Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kennack Sands over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s on offer for the next stretch here at Kennack Sands in the Lizard area of Cornwall. I’m looking at a proper flat spell to start, so don’t even bother paddling out for a while.
We are in for a massive drought of rideable surf. From Wednesday 8 July right through to Saturday 18 July, it’s nearly all flat or close to it, with barely a ripple. The few tiny pulses of south swell are so weak you wouldn’t get wet, and the combined energy is almost non-existent—mostly single or low double digits. There’s no size and no shape. That’s a solid ten-day gap with nothing worth recommending. It’s pretty normal for this sheltered corner to go quiet, so it’s not a surprise, but it’s a tough run.
Things finally change on Sunday 19 July, but only in the most marginal way. There’s still almost no surf to speak of, with a tiny 0.3 ft of south swell and a long 19-second period. The combined energy is a weak 10, so it’s nothing to get excited about. The wind is light cross-onshore, so it’s tidy, but there’s simply no wave to ride. Monday 20 July is much the same story—small and weak, with a bit of offshore wind in the afternoon, but still only 0.3 ft of swell. You could sit on your board and float, but you won’t be surfing.
Tuesday 21 July is the clearest of the lot, but still tiny. We’ve got a fresh offshore wind from the NNW and NW, around 18 to 22 mph, and that 0.3 ft south swell with a 16-second period. The combined energy is a pathetic 10. It’s glassy, clean and tempting to look at, but there’s nothing to push you. The water temperature is a touch warmer than normal at 64°F, but that’s small comfort when there’s no surf.
Even into Wednesday and Thursday 22–23 July, it remains flat. The offshore winds keep the surface clean, but without any swell size or energy, you’re just staring at flat water. The best I can say is that if you’re desperate for a paddle and a view, the conditions are pretty, but for actual surfing, there is nothing on the cards.
If you’re a kite surfer, even that’s a stretch because the wind is either too light or cross-onshore with hardly any wave face. Honestly, sit this one out.
Rusty.
