Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's chew the fat on Kennack Sands. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it – this stretch of coast is having a proper siesta. We're staring down a long, flat spell for the next week and a half. Don't be rushing to wax up just yet.
The water's a balmy 62°, a touch warmer than usual for the time of year, but it's not helping the wave count.
We start off on Monday the 6th with a pathetic 0.3ft of weak, 14-second south swell. The energy is a paltry (4). There's nothing doing. That flatness sticks around all week. A few tiny bumps on the 8th and 9th, but we're talking ankle-biters. You'll be staring at a mirror. It's not until Saturday the 11th that we see something with a bit of life. The swell hits 4ft from the east, period at 6 seconds, with moderate energy (111), but the wind is cross-shore and messy. It's choppy and not worth the paddle.
Sunday the 12th sees the swell push past 5ft (6-6ft) from the east, hitting moderate energy (302-320), but it's blasted by a strong onshore wind gusting to 25 mph. It's lumpy and messy, looking more like a kiteboarding day than a surf session. That rough trend continues into the middle of the week. From Monday 13th to Wednesday 15th, we get swell in the 5ft to 8ft range, with energy ramping up to 513. But the wind stays onshore and strong. It won't be pretty.
Then on Thursday the 16th, the swell jumps up big time. We're looking at a solid 8ft to 10ft of east swell with very strong energy (962-1398). That's a powerful east groundswell, but the wind is screaming out of the east at 28 mph. It's a full-on onshore gale. For a sheltered spot like Kennack, this is way too much. It's expert-only and just blown apart.
The real standout, and I mean the only one, falls on Saturday the 18th. The swell drops back to a tiny 1ft from the east, but the wind goes glassy and then light offshore. It'll be clean as a whistle, but the energy is nearly zero (5-6). For a beginner on a foamie or someone on a longboard wanting a glassy cruise, this is your best shot in the whole 16-day window. It won't be pumping, but it'll be surfable. There's a little pulse on the 19th, but the wind fouls it up again. We then hit another flat spell through the 20th and 21st, with a tiny 0.3ft south groundswell showing up on the 21st. It's clean, but just not enough.
So there you have it. A tough forecast. Your best bet is that glassy, small window on Saturday the 18th. It's inconsistent, but it's all we've got. The bigger east swell on the 16th is a write-off.
Rusty.
