Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jacks Hole over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. To be straight with you, the next 16 days look pretty quiet around here. We’ve got a long stretch of flat or just messy conditions, so don’t get your hopes up for anything worth paddling out for.
Right now, and for the first week, the only spot on the radar is Jacks Hole. But it’s not looking good. The water’s sitting at 62°F which is a touch warmer than usual for the time of year, so that’s something, but the swell is tiny and weak. We’re talking about 3 ft of short-period, windswell from the NE, with a period of only 5 seconds – that’s just chop. The combined energy is only 55, so barely any power behind it. Winds are cross-onshore at 15 mph, making it choppy and bumpy. It’s a reef break, so you’d hope for better, but this is just poor surf through Monday.
Moving into Tuesday (14th July) and Wednesday (15th July), the swell drops even more, down to 2 ft and 2 ft. The wind stays cross or cross-on, and the energy values fall into the teens and twenties. By Thursday (16th July) it’s under 2 ft with a 4-second period – that’s barely a ripple. The combined energy is down to 14. It’s just not worth it.
From Friday (17th July) right through to the end of the first week, we’re looking at 1 ft or less, and the energy drops to single digits. By Saturday (18th July) afternoon, there’s a hint of a 13-second period swell from the south, but it’s only 0.3 ft – not enough to break. The whole stretch is a write-off for surfing.
Then we hit a dry spell. From Sunday (19th July) through to Wednesday (22nd July), there’s literally no swell – zero energy. The conditions are clean, even glassy at times, but flat. It’s not until Thursday (23rd July) that we see a tiny pulse of 0.3 ft from the south with a very long 15-second period, but the energy is only 4. That’s not enough for a proper wave. The wind is offshore, so it’s clean, but there’s nothing to ride.
The following week, from Friday (24th July) onwards, the swell stays tiny. 1 ft at best on Friday morning with a 4-second period, and the energy is only 9. It’s glassy, but the waves are just too small and weak. Saturday (25th July) and Sunday (26th July) are back to 0.3 ft with long periods, but the wind turns cross-onshore, making it messy. The combined energy never gets above 9.
By Monday (27th July) and Tuesday (28th July), we’re back to flat conditions again. A few 0.3 ft pulses on Tuesday morning but with a 7-second period and 19 mph crosswinds – it’s lumpy and useless.
Honestly, there’s no standout session here. Jacks Hole is a reef break that’s fairly consistent normally, but this 16-day window is a total dud. The best you could say is that the water is a touch warmer than average, but without swell, that doesn’t matter. With the wind and tiny waves, this setup would be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Keep your board in the garage, and wait for the next system.
