Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jacks Hole over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: this is a tough stretch for Jacks Hole. I’ve looked over the whole 16-day run, and honestly, there’s not a single session I’d paddle out for.
The forecast kicks off on Wednesday, 8th July, and goes all the way through to Thursday, 23rd July. The whole period is a write-off. Every single one of those time slots comes back as “poor surf conditions.” There’s no other way to say it: the swell just isn’t showing up. We’re looking at flat to tiny scraps of energy for the entire outlook.
What little swell does appear is mostly short-period windswell, with periods as low as 4 to 6 seconds – that’s just chop, not surf. The combined energy values are tiny, mostly under 100 (weak energy), which backs up the story: there’s simply no power in the water. Even the bigger numbers, like 112 on Thursday morning, 16th July, still come with a score of 0 – the wind and quality are just not cooperating.
The wind doesn’t help either. For the first week, we’ve got a near-constant moderate to fresh cross-shore breeze from the north-northeast, keeping things lumpy and cross-chop. There are a couple of glassy moments on Friday, 17th July – the morning with a light southwest breeze and the afternoon with calm conditions – but those come with a paltry 3ft and 2ft of short-period swell. It’s clean, but there’s nothing to ride.
We also get a few clean, cross-offshore days near the very end of the outlook, on the 21st and 22nd of July, but again, it’s tiny or flat. The swell just isn’t there to match the clean windows.
For clarity: the first surf recommendation would be on Wednesday morning, 8th July, but even then, there’s nothing. So we’re looking at a blank run from the start right through to the end. For a spot like Jacks Hole, which is a fairly exposed reef break that needs the right south swell to light up, this kind of flat spell is more normal than a lucky strike. It’s a waiting game.
Hang in there. The forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board in the garage.
