Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jacks Hole over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’m looking at the next 16 days for Jacks Hole, and I gotta be honest: it’s a rough stretch. There’s no real juice in the water, and the whole period is a washout. You’re not gonna find much to ride here.
From Saturday, July 11th, it’s a mess. We’ve got tiny swell, like 2 to 3 feet from the north-northeast, with a short, weak period of just 5 seconds. The wind is a moderate cross-shore breeze, and the combined energy is weak (21 to 39). It’s just poor surf conditions, with that cross-chop making everything ugly. This carries on through Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday – all the same story: small, short-period swell from the NE or NNE, peaking at about 4 feet on Sunday afternoon, but with fresh cross-shore winds and lumpy conditions. The wave energy never gets past 91, and it’s always “poor surf conditions.” For a reef, you need more power and better direction; this is just a frustrating grind.
There’s one tiny window on Saturday, July 18th, in the morning. The wind goes light and cross-offshore from the north-northwest, cleaning things up. The swell is still only about 2 feet from the north, period 5 seconds, but at least it’s not choppy. That’s your best bet, and even then, it’s barely worth paddling out for.
Then from Sunday, July 19th, all the way through to Sunday, July 26th, the swell just dies. We’re talking 0.3 feet to 1 foot, with periods that are all over the place – some long-period groundswell from the south sneaks in (12-18 seconds), but the height is so tiny that the combined energy is only 1 to 12. That’s practically flat. On Sunday morning the 19th, it goes glassy with a 0.3-foot south swell, but it’s so small you’d be floating. The rest of the week is offshore winds and clean conditions, but with no swell, it’s a dead spell. If you’re itching for something, check the wind for kitesurfing, because there’s nothing for a paddle surfer here.
For a break that’s usually fairly consistent and exposed to the south, this is a lean run. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. The crowds at Jacks Hole can be “sometimes” busy, but with this lack of waves, you’ll have the place to yourself. That’s not much comfort when there’s nothing to ride.
The only real “standout” – and I’m being generous – is that Saturday, July 18th morning, when the wind is clean and the swell is just about knee-high. Otherwise, save your energy. The forecast is poor, and it’s a long way to the next decent window.
Rusty.
