Table - best surf conditions forecast for Freshwater West over the next 16 days.
Right then, let's have a look at what's on the cards for Freshwater West.
To be straight with you, this is a tough run. For the next eleven days, from Friday the 10th of July right through to Monday the 20th, it's looking properly flat. There's barely a wave to speak of – we're talking scraps of 0.3ft to 1.0ft at best. The swell energy is next to nothing, with combined energy values rarely getting past double figures, often sitting in the teens or even single digits (like 15, 11, or down to 3). There is a period of long-period groundswell kicking around the 12th to the 14th, with periods hitting 16 to 19 seconds, but the height is just too small to make anything of it. You'd be floating around in a glassy sea with nothing to ride. The wind does blow offshore a fair bit, especially on the mornings, but with no swell, that doesn't matter a bit.
Then finally, things start to rouse a little. On Tuesday the 21st of July, we see a jump. The morning brings a clean 3ft from the WSW with a short period of 5 seconds. The combined energy climbs to 56, which is a step up but still weak. The wind is a light cross-off from the NNE. That afternoon, the swell bumps up to 5ft from the same direction, but the period is still a short 6 seconds, and the energy gets to 200 (moderate). Problem is, the wind swings cross-shore from the NNW and that kicks up a chop, making it "poor surf conditions". So it's a tease.
Wednesday the 22nd of July morning might be your best bet if you're desperate. We've got 5ft from the WSW, with a 7-second period, giving a moderate combined energy of 219. The wind is a cross-off from the ESE, which should keep the surface clean. The swell isn't big enough to be a problem for beginners at 5ft, but the short period means it'll be a bit crumbly and soft, not much push. Still, it's the cleanest wave of a pretty bleak run.
Honestly, there's no standout here. The first solid, clean swell doesn't arrive, and the one that does show up later gets chopped out by the wind. The water temp is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year at 62°, but that's a small comfort when there's nothing to ride.
Rusty.
