Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, it’s Rusty. Alright, let’s break down what’s on the cards for Fingal Bay. Gotta be honest, the next few days are gonna be pretty grim for a proper paddle. We’ve got a big, raw southerly swell pushin’ in, but the wind is gonna be howlin’ right onshore and cross-onshore – total mess. Sunday the 5th has a 12 ft swell from the S with a period near 11 seconds, energy cranked up to 3191, but the SSE wind at 22 mph is gonna tear it to pieces. Monday and Tuesday stay ugly: energy between 2156 and 3034, similar wind, nothin’ worth paddlin’ for.
Wednesday the 8th morning shows a bit of hope – a light 9 mph SSW offshore wind and the swell droppin’ to 8 ft from the SSE, moderate energy at 1987, but the comment says marginal. Thursday and Friday the 9th-10th bring the swell down to around 8 ft to 6 ft, period at 10 seconds, with light cross-onshore breezes – just rideable but nothing to rave about.
Now here’s where it gets interesting. Saturday the 11th is your best bet for the near term. The swell comes down to a friendly 5 ft from the SE, period around 9 seconds, but the wind is the big story. Saturday morning is a light 6 mph cross-offshore from the WNW, and Saturday afternoon goes dead glassy – zero wind. That’s huge. The break at Fingal Bay (beach and point) is consistent and exposed, so that SE swell wraps in nice. Crowds are only "sometimes", so you might get a quiet session. This is the standout for the first week – clean, small, and friendly.
Sunday the 12th keeps the clean theme with waves at 3 ft to 3 ft from the ESE, light cross-offshore breezes, but the energy is gettin’ weak (298 and lower). Good for a longboard cruise. Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th it basically dies or gets blown out by strong to near-gale winds.
Lookin’ further out, Thursday the 16th sees another big jump – a solid 12 ft southerly swell (energy 4692), but the wind is strong cross-onshore again, so that’s a miss. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th though, the wind gets friendly. Friday morning has a 10 ft SSE swell with a moderate cross-shore wind – the comment says it’s too big for the break, so expert only. Saturday the 18th morning is offshore cross-offshore with a 10 ft SSE swell – again, too big for many. But Saturday afternoon is the real gem for experienced surfers: a 8 ft SSE swell, period at 12 seconds, with a light 6 mph cross-offshore breeze. That long period means proper groundswell with shape and power, clean as a whistle. That’s your long-range standout, but it’s a week and a half out, so keep an eye on it. Sunday the 19th drops to 6 ft, still clean, and Monday the 20th see another 8 ft pulse from the SSW with cross-offshore wind.
Water temp is about normal at 66°F. For beginners, hit Saturday the 11th. For the crew that wants some power, circle Saturday the 18th afternoon – it’s gonna be a good one if it holds.
Stay safe, Rusty.
