Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Bar Beach.
Right now there’s barely a ripple, and it stays that way for the first couple of days. Friday 3 July is a write-off with tiny 1ft easterly slop and a moderate breeze. Not worth getting wet.
Then Saturday 4 July shows a pulse of life – a 3ft south swell rolls in early, with a long 12-second period and clean conditions thanks to a light WNW breeze. The combined energy sits at moderate (290), so there’s some push. It’s a beginner-friendly spot, and the early session looks tidy, but keep in mind crowds are often around.
Sunday 5 July turns ugly. The swell jumps to 8ft from the south, but a fresh southerly cross-onshore wind chops it right up. Poor. That messy setup hangs around through Monday and Tuesday, with the swell holding over 7.5ft but cross or onshore winds ruining any chance of quality.
Wednesday 8 July is the first real highlight. A clean 7ft south-east swell, glassy with a light SW cross-offshore breeze. The wave energy (952) is strong, and the 10-second period gives decent shape. This is the pick of the first week – get out there early.
The swell fades through to the weekend, dropping to 3.5-4ft by Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July. Light winds keep it clean, especially Friday morning with that 4ft south swell and a light cross-offshore breeze (324 combined energy). Good for learning or a cruisey session.
After a quiet spell early in the second week, things ramp up again. Wednesday 15 July sees a clean 6ft south swell with a gentle offshore WNW breeze (647 combined energy). Then Thursday 16 July is the standout of the whole outlook: a solid 12ft south-south-east groundswell, 13-second period, and a moderate cross-offshore WNW wind. Combined energy is very strong (3947). That morning is for experienced surfers only – over 8ft is expert territory. By Thursday afternoon it cleans up further with a gentle offshore NW breeze, and the swell sits at 10ft (3242). This is big, powerful, and lined-up. Not for beginners.
Friday 17 July keeps the energy up with 7ft south swell and clean conditions, still for experienced crew. But Saturday 18 July closes the period with a 10ft southerly swell and a fresh onshore wind ruining it.
Best on offer: Wednesday 8 July morning for the clean, manageable swell, and Thursday 16 July afternoon for the big, clean groundswell – that’s the one for the advanced crew.
