Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bar Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab a coffee, let’s talk about what’s cooking at Bar Beach.
Right now, the surf is pretty much flat. We’ve got a bit of a waiting game on our hands. The next few days are a write-off for anything decent, with tiny scraps and poor conditions. From Sunday through to Thursday morning, the swell is almost non-existent – we’re talking knee-high dribble at best, and the wind, while offshore, just doesn't have any power behind it. You’re looking at about four days of nothing worth paddling for.
The first real shift happens on Wednesday the 15th, but don’t get too excited. We see a big jump up to a stormy 8ft of short-period, 8-second swell out of the south. The problem is the wind – it’s a nasty cross-onshore, making it lumpy and blown out. The combined wave energy is strong (870-1198), but for paddle surfing, this is more of a kite-surfing kind of day. The swell is too big for beginners and the quality is poor.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th aren't much better. The swell stays around the 6ft to 8ft mark with a short period and onshore winds. The conditions are marginal at best. The water temperature here is about average for this time of year.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. We’ve got a proper standout window arriving on Sunday the 19th. The swell is still solid, around 7ft to 8ft out of the east, but the period lengthens to 11 seconds – proper groundswell. The kicker is the light, variable offshore wind that swings in. The wave energy is very strong (1141-1409). This is for experienced surfers only, as it’s over 7ft. The southerly wind on Sunday afternoon is barely a breath.
That clean trend carries into Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st. On Monday, we’ve got clean 5ft to 6ft east swell with light offshore winds out of the northwest and a little cross-off from the north-northeast. This is the best combination on offer: solid waves, clean faces, and a comfortable size for most intermediate to advanced surfers. The crowd factor is something to keep in mind, as it can get busy here. Tuesday morning holds similar clean conditions before the wind turns in the afternoon.
After that, the swell slowly fades through the week. There’s a small, clean window on Thursday the 23rd morning with waist-high waves and light offshore wind, which is worth a look if you’re keen on a more relaxed session, but it's not a standout.
Overall, the highlight is the stretch from Sunday the 19th through to Tuesday the 21st. The long-period east swell and the clean, light winds make for some quality surf. Aim for a higher tide if you can – that long-period groundswell can straighten out a bit on a beach break.
Stay stoked.
