Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's shaping up for Bar Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right now, we've got a bit of a slow start. The first real action kicks off on Saturday morning, July 4th. We're looking at a clean 4 ft swell out of the South, with a 12-second period. The wind will be light and offshore from the WNW, so it's going to be glassy. The water is sitting at 67°, which is about average for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (392). It’s a perfect beginner-friendly wave to ease into the weekend. Saturday afternoon will pick up a little onshore wind, so the morning is definitely the call.
Sunday the 5th is a write-off. The wind goes howling onshore from the South at 19 mph, and the swell jumps to a messy 8 ft to 10 ft. It’s all storm chop, so give it a miss. Monday and Tuesday are the same story – big, wind-affected, and ugly. Wednesday and Thursday stay poor too; there's just no quality to be had.
Now, hold onto your boards, because Friday, July 10th is our first real standout. The morning session is the pick of the entire forecast. We’ve got an excellent 7 ft swell from the SSE with a nice 11-second period, and the wind is light cross-offshore from the WSW. The energy jumps to strong (1018). This is proper groundswell, offering up powerful, well-shaped lines that will really suit experienced surfers. By the afternoon, the wind drops to glassy – literally nothing – making for some very good, clean surf as the swell eases slightly to 7 ft.
Saturday the 11th stays fun with smaller waves (5 ft to 5 ft) and clean offshore NW winds. Sunday and Monday of the second week drop off significantly in size, so it’s a good time to rest up. We then hit another flat spell with tiny, weak energy through mid-week.
Looking out to the long-range, there’s a promising but less certain pulse on Saturday, July 18th. By the afternoon, we see a 7 ft Southerly swell arriving with a fair amount of energy (716), and the wind looks clean and offshore from the NW. That’s a good sign for some solid, rideable waves.
However, keep an eye on Sunday, July 19th. The models are hinting at a massive 15 ft Southerly groundswell with glassy wind, but truth be told, that's just too much juice for this beach break. The energy readings are enormous (4970), and it will be closing out on the banks. That one is strictly for the experts and big-wave chargers only.
So, to wrap it up: for the best surf, get in the water Saturday morning (4th) for the clean small waves, or lock in Friday (10th) for the best quality swell of the period. The rest of the window is a mix of flat spells and periods where the wind or the swell size knocks things out.
Rusty.
