Table - best surf conditions forecast for Bar Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, listen up. Bar Beach is gonna be a bit of a tale of two weeks. Some raw, big swell days are coming, but you’ll have to sit through a few days of junk and a flat spell first.
Wednesday the 8th is a write-off. 8ft swells from the SSE but hammered by a cross-onshore wind, making it choppy and ugly. Energy is sky-high (3288), but it’s a mess. Thursday the 9th isn’t much better – 7ft dropping to 6ft, still cross-onshore and crappy. Don’t bother.
Finally, a change on Friday the 10th. Morning brings a light cross-off wind and 5ft SE swell. It gets clean. But the real gem is Friday afternoon – glassy conditions, 5ft SE swell, 10-second period. That’s as clean as it gets for a beach break. Water temp is 66°F, dead average for the season. A solid short-term standout.
Saturday the 11th stays clean with an offshore breeze, but the swell drops to 4ft morning and 3ft afternoon. Fun but small. Then comes the void. From Sunday the 12th through to Wednesday the 15th, it’s tiny – under 2ft, with very poor conditions and energy readings below 100. That’s a 5-day gap with nothing to recommend.
Now pay attention. Thursday the 16th morning, a clean 7ft S swell at 12 seconds rolls in with a gentle cross-off wind and strong energy (1411). That’s groundswell, with some shape. But that afternoon, the swell jumps to 8ft and a 13-second period, but gets hit by a messy cross-shore wind – skip it.
Then Friday the 17th morning is the king of the run: 10ft S swell, 13-second period, clean with a WNW cross-off. Energy is 3007 (very strong). That’s massive groundswell – expert-only territory. On a beach break, that long-period S swell can rear up and dump hard, so you need to be on your game. Huge sets, long lulls, but if you’re skilled, this is the session. A standout.
Saturday the 18th morning drops to a clean 6ft S swell – still fun but nothing special. After that, the swell fades through the next week. A couple of okay mornings around Monday the 20th with 7ft S swell and offshore winds, but nothing epic. The rest of the second week limps out with tiny, poor waves.
Beginners, your only window is that glassy 5ft surf on Friday the 10th afternoon – anything over around 5ft from the 16th onward is too big for you. Kite surfers might like the first week’s wind, but for paddle surfing, it’s all about Friday the 10th afternoon and the big, clean Friday the 17th morning.
Rusty.
