The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
First up, we’ve got a bit of a wait on our hands. For the next several days, the surf just isn’t happening. From Tuesday afternoon the 14th right through to Sunday the 19th, it’s a write-off – onshore winds, messy chop, and rain. You’d be better off doing anything else but looking at the ocean. That’s nearly a full week of nothing worth paddling out for.
Then things start to shift. By Monday the 20th, it’s still marginal, but we’re seeing a tiny pulse of energy. A cross-onshore wind and rain showers, so it’s not great, but the swell is starting to show.
Now, the real standout. Tuesday morning the 21st at Bar Beach. The wind goes glassy – dead calm – and you’ve got a clean 3.6ft swell from the east with a nice 10-second period. Combined swell energy is moderate at 299. It’s small, but it’s clean and the water temp is a normal 65.5°F, about average for this time of year. This is a beginner-friendly wave, so if you’re just wanting to get a few cruisy ones, this is your window. Just be aware crowds are possible here.
Thursday morning the 23rd is another cracker. That same east swell pushes up to 5.2ft with an 11-second period, and the combined energy jumps to a solid 620. Glassy conditions again – offshore wind from the WSW at just 3.1 mph. This one’s got more push, still clean, and should offer some fun lines for a wider range of surfers. Overall, this is the best on offer across the whole outlook.
After that, the weekend of the 24th and 25th stays rideable but gets messier with onshore winds and rain, though the swell direction holds from the east with a long 12-second period. The energy stays moderate to strong (over 600). It’s not as clean, but there’ll be waves.
The following week, from the 28th, the wind swings offshore again from the northwest. The swell drops a little – 3.9ft on Tuesday morning the 28th, with a very long 13-second period and combined energy of 539. That’s a proper groundswell, clean with offshore wind. Tuesday morning the 28th is another standout: moderate offshore breeze at 12.4 mph, clean, and the longer period means the waves will have shape and power. Best for a point or reef setup, but at Bar Beach (a beach break), it might break a bit straight. Still, with that wind, it’ll be worth a look.
Wednesday the 29th holds clean with offshore winds, but the swell fades to 2.9ft.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a bust. The second week has two clear high points – Thursday the 23rd morning and Tuesday the 28th morning – with clean, glassy or offshore conditions and decent east swell. Get on it.
