Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on the cards for Zenith Beach. No use sugar-coating it: for a solid week, this spot is just too jacked up. We’re looking at a big, powerful Southeast groundswell rolling in from Monday the 6th, and it’s just too much muscle for this exposed stretch of sand. Combined wave energy is sky-high, over 1800 (1868) on Monday, and it just gets bigger into Tuesday, hitting over 3000 (3161). With a strong cross-shore wind and lumpy chop on top, it’s a flat-out no-go. This is expert-only territory size-wise, but with the messy conditions, it’s not even that. Honestly, the whole first week is a write-off for paddle surfing. The swell is too big, the wind is wrong, and the quality is poor. It’s more of a kite-surfing proposition if anything.
The tide turns on Thursday the 9th. Glassy conditions, a drop in swell to a more manageable 7 ft from the SE, and the combined energy drops to a moderate 885. This is the moment. If you’ve been waiting, Thursday morning through Friday afternoon is your window. The wind goes glassy or light offshore, the swell holds around 6–7 ft from the SE, and the energy sits in the moderate zone (between 627 and 885). It’s going to be clean. You want excitement? Thursday morning the 9th is the standout. Swell is 7 ft from the Southeast, period a solid 10 seconds, and it’s dead glassy. It’s not perfectly groomed for a beach break with that period, but when it’s this clean, you take it. Friday morning the 10th is also a gem: 6 ft SE swell, light offshore wind. Glorious.
Saturday the 11th still has some juice – 4 ft SE swell in the morning with light cross-offshore wind – but the energy is dropping fast (379). By Sunday the 12th, it’s on life support: tiny 3 ft swell, 30 km/h offshore wind trashing any shape. Then we get a weird spike on Friday the 17th, but it’s onshore, lumpy, and the swell is too big again (8 ft). A solid Southern groundswell (period 12 seconds) but with the onshore wind, it's a write-off. The best call of the second week? Saturday the 18th morning – 6 ft from the South, period 10 seconds, light cross-offshore wind, combined energy a moderate 630. Clean, fun, and not too heavy. Sunday the 19th morning is similar with a little more energy (821) and a longer 12-second period, glassy conditions. That’s your other play. After that, it’s small again.
Water temp is about 66°F right now, which is normal for this time of year – no surprise. Crowds at Zenith are “sometimes” an issue, so on those good glassy days from Thursday to Friday, you might have company.
So, to cut a long story short: forget the first week. The standouts are Thursday morning July 9th and Friday morning July 10th for the clean, glassy conditions with a solid 6-7 ft SE swell. That’s as good as it gets. In the second week, Saturday morning July 18th and Sunday morning July 19th are worth a look for cleaner, smaller surf.
Rusty.
