Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty coming to you live. Let’s be straight up about what’s heading our way for the next couple of weeks. I’ve taken a good hard look at the numbers, and it’s a bit of a struggle out there right now.
Right off the bat, we’re looking at a stretch of real flat, messy conditions at Fernandina Beach Pier. Most of the first week is pretty much a washout. The water temp is sitting around 84°, which is about a degree warmer than usual for this time of year, so a little on the warm side.
We’ve got a long, quiet gap here. The first few days, from Thursday the 2nd through to the end of the first week, the swell is tiny, mostly up to about 3 ft max, and the energy is weak, with the combined energy reading bouncing around low numbers like 94, 129, and even dropping to 25. The winds are all over the shop, mostly cross-on or onshore, making it choppy and disorganised. Poor surf conditions is the name of the game. That Saturday morning the 4th has a bit of glassy wind, but the swell is only a foot and a half.
We finally start to see a flicker of life around Friday the 10th of July. There’s a little bump of 2-3 ft morning surf with some light offshore wind from the WSW, which cleans it up nicely, but it’s still only ‘surfable waves but very ordinary conditions’. The combined energy is still a paltry 50. It’s not a standout, just a sign that things are trying to turn.
Then, Saturday the 11th of July morning brings a similar story: 2-3 ft from the SE, with clean offshore wind from the W. The energy creeps up to 73. It’s rideable and clean, but nothing to write home about. The afternoon sees the same energy reading hitting 99, with sideshore winds, still clean though.
Sunday the 12th of July morning is again clean offshore with a 2 ft swell. Still pretty small.
Honestly, looking at the whole 16-day run, there isn’t a true standout session here. The swell never gets above 4-5 ft, and the best we can hope for is clean, tiny waves. The swell direction is mostly from the ESE and SE, and the optimum for this spot is NE, so it’s never really aligned right.
It’s a quiet period, no doubt about it. You might get a few micro-sessions on the 10th or 11th if you’re desperate, but don’t expect any magic. The forecast can always shift, but as it stands, we’re in a flat spell.
This is Rusty, signing off.
