Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fernandina Beach Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s break down what’s happening at Fernandina Beach Pier. I’ve got a full 16-day window here, and I’ll be honest with you—it’s a pretty grim picture.
For the vast majority of this run, the ocean is flat and grumpy. From Tuesday the 7th all the way to Tuesday the 14th, it’s a long, frustrating gap. The swell is tiny—most of the time under 3ft—and the period is stuck in the 4 to 8-second range, which is just windswell slop. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, making the surface choppy and messy. The combined wave energy is weak, hanging out in the 30s and 40s, so there’s no grunt in the water. Honestly, it’s more of a longboard or a flat day than a surf session.
The one small glimmer comes on Wednesday morning, July 8th. We get a clean offshore wind from the WSW, but the swell is only 2ft from the SE with a terrible 5-second period. Still a poor surf day.
Then, on Wednesday, July 15th, there’s a tiny pulse. The swell bumps to 3ft from the ENE with an 8-second period, and the energy reaches 126 (moderate). The wind is light and cross-off from the SSW, keeping the surface clean. But the comment is “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s a glimpse, not a standout. The afternoon gets wrecked by that ESE cross-on wind and chop.
After that, from the 16th onward, it’s a ghost town again. Tiny waves, no power, and weak wind. The energy drops back into the teens and twenties.
Water temperature is at 86°F, a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
For the paddle surfers, I hate to say it, but this isn’t your window. With the persistent onshore wind and gutless swell, this beach setup looks far more interesting for kite surfing than a traditional paddle session. Don’t get your hopes up.
