Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fernandina Beach Pier over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a bit of a slow start. We're looking at a long stretch of small, weak, and mostly messy conditions for the first several days. The first few days of the outlook are pretty much a write-off, so don't bother paddling out until we get past the middle of the month. The real story doesn't start to unfold until the morning of Tuesday, 14 July, and even then, it's not going to blow your mind.
Fernandina Beach Pier is our only game in town. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing wild to report on that front.
The first real chance for a surf comes on the morning of Tuesday, 14 July. We've got a little 4ft swell pushing in from the NE. The combined energy is moderate (107), so there's a bit of push behind it. The real kicker here is the wind – it's forecast to be glassy. That means the surface will be clean as a whistle. It's a short period swell (6 seconds), so it won't be the most powerful wave, but for a beach break, that's fine. The wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," so keep your expectations realistic. It's a small, clean wave for beginners and longboards. There's a chance of crowds, so don't expect to have it to yourself.
The morning of Friday, 17 July looks like it could be the best of the bunch. We're seeing a jump in the swell to 4ft from the SE, with the combined energy getting a solid moderate rating (164). The wind is offshore from the W at 6 mph, which is exactly what we want for a clean face. The period is still short (6 seconds), so it's not a groundswell, but it'll be a fun, clean, small wave. The wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," which for this area with this setup, I'd take that as a good day out.
There's another decent morning on Monday, 20 July, with a 4ft SE swell, offshore wind from the WSW at 9 mph, and moderate energy (116). It's a consistent pattern of small, clean mornings, but nothing that's going to have you calling in sick.
After that, the energy drops off again into the third week of July, with the swell fading and the wind turning more onshore. It's a case of get in while you can during that window from the 14th to the 20th.
I'd say the standout is the morning of Friday, 17 July. The offshore wind, the clean conditions, and the slightly higher energy make it the pick of the fortnight. The call is pretty reliable for that date, so pencil it in.
Rusty.
