The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, checkin' in from the coast. I've looked at the charts for the next sixteen days, and honestly, I'm looking at a tough stretch here. The surf forecast is pretty much a flat spell for Fernandina Beach Pier. We're not talking about a few days of waiting; the whole sixteen-day window is a write-off for any decent waves.
The first chance we see is on Sunday, July 19th, with a small, short-period swell from the SSE pushing in at 3 ft. The wind is set to be a light cross-offshore, which is a good sign for clean conditions, but the swell is just too weak. The energy is low (53), and it's a 6-second period, which means it'll be soft and weak. There's a bit of a bump on the Sunday afternoon, but it's messy and cross-shore, no good. The water temperature is 84°F, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year, but that's the only thing that's normal.
The rest of the forecast is a soul-crushing run of tiny, weak swell. The wind tries to go offshore a few times, especially around the 27th and 28th of July, but the surf is barely a ripple. The strongest energy we see is a combined 78 on the 24th, but that's coming with a 4 ft, 5-second SE windswell and a cross-onshore wind, making for a complete mess. It's honestly not worth a paddle.
This is one of those blank runs that can happen. It's a beach/pier setup, and with no significant swell and poor quality, it's a tough call. If you're desperate for a paddle, look for the cleanest offshore windows, but the waves will be tiny. Otherwise, it's a waiting game. Forecasts can always change, but for now, it's a solid no-go.
Rusty.
