Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Well, folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s happening at Fernandina Beach Pier over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – this forecast is about as flat as a summer pond for most of the run. There’s really no standout surf on offer. We’ve got a solid 16-day window here, but honestly, there’s a massive gap of surf that’s just not worth paddling out for, stretching from now all the way through to the end of the forecast. The first record kicks off on Saturday, 4th July with a tiny 1ft swell from the ESE. That’s combined energy of just 36 – weak. Morning wind is light cross-shore, but the surf is described as poor and scores a zero. Water temps are 85°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The whole first week is small, messy onshores, short periods – nothing to get excited about. Saturday morning, 11th July, gives us a glimmer: 3ft from the SE with light offshore wind from the WSW, making it clean. Even then, the period is only 7 seconds and energy is 67. It’s surfable but very ordinary. That’s pretty much the best we see. After that, it’s back to small, choppy, and cross-onshore conditions for days. The second week stays tiny, with most swells under 3ft and periods mostly short. Thursday morning, 16th July, has onshore wind and rain – not your friend. The last day, Sunday, 19th July, is glassy in the morning with a 2ft ESE swell – but again, the quality is poor. Honestly, this is a blank run for surf. For a beach/pier setup like this, it’s not unusual to see long flat spells in summer. If you’re absolutely desperate, the cleanest windows with offshore wind are the mornings of Saturday 11th and Friday 10th July – but keep expectations real low. The swell is tiny, the energy is weak, and the waves will be small and soft. Might be a day for a longboard or a paddle. Otherwise, I’d leave the board at home. This setup looks more interesting for a kite session if the wind picks up, but for us surfers? It’s a tough watch.
Rusty.
