The Lowdown

G’day, it’s Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this stretch of coast is looking pretty flat and quiet for the next couple of weeks. I’m not seeing any proper swell on the horizon, just small, weak lumps that won’t get the heart racing. The first real chance of anything even worth paddling out for comes on Monday the 24th, so we’ve got a bit of a wait on our hands.

For the first week, it’s all tiny stuff. Tuesday the 18th through to Sunday the 23rd are really just knee-high dribbles at best, mostly around 1ft to 3ft. The wind is mostly okay, with some decent early morning clean windows, but there’s no power behind any of it. The combined energy is weak, sitting between 15 and 85, so it’s just not doing anything for us. You’d be better off doing something else.

Monday the 24th is the first day that gets a flicker of hope. Morning sees a tiny 3ft SW groundswell with light winds, making it clean and glassy—surfable, but very ordinary. The afternoon bumps up to 4ft, but the onshore breeze chops it up. It’s not great, but it’s something.

The middle of the week around the 26th and 27th sees the energy jump up a notch, but the wave height stays stubbornly small. Wednesday the 26th morning has a 1ft ESE swell with a long 16-second period, and the energy hits 117, which is moderate. It’ll be clean, but tiny. The afternoon gets more interesting on the energy front—963, which is strong, with 4ft of SE swell at 16 seconds—but the cross-onshore wind makes it messy and the tide looks questionable. It’s marginal, but probably the closest we get to a real surf this week.

Into the weekend of the 29th and 30th, it fades back down to small, poor surf. The wind swings onshore on Saturday afternoon and stays that way through Sunday, so the beachy setup here is looking more like a kite-surfing kind of show than a paddle session.

The second week is a write-off for any real surf. The energy drops back into the weak range and the waves stay below 2ft. We’re looking at a solid run of flat days from the 29th through to the 2nd of September. Not much to get excited about, but it won’t stay like this forever. Forecasts can change, so I’ll keep an eye on it.

For what it’s worth, the water temp is about average for this time of year. No crazy anomalies to report.

The standout in this whole window—if you can call it a standout—is Wednesday the 26th afternoon. A solid push of energy (963) with 4ft SE swell at a long 16 seconds. It’s a long-period groundswell, which can be a bit straight at a beach break like this, and the onshore wind will knock the shine off it. But if you’re desperate, that’s your window. Thursday the 27th has some cleaner morning options with 2ft and an offshore breeze, but it’s still tiny.

Otherwise, we wait. This is a quiet stretch, and there’s no point forcing it. Stay tuned, check the cams, and I’ll let you know if anything changes. This is Rusty, signing off.
