Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for El Burro over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, this is a tough stretch. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty flat and disappointing. The first real run of any worthwhile energy doesn’t show up until the very end of the forecast, and even then, it’s not a total home run. The first 12 days are a write-off. We’re looking at tiny slop, with swell heights barely cracking 2 ft, periods that are short and weak, and the combined energy is just a dribble. The numbers are all in the single digits or low teens—basically no power at all. The wind, while mostly cross-off or light, can’t do anything with the lack of waves. The water temp is sitting at 72°, which is about 2° warmer than average for this time of year, so a little on the toasty side, but not a big deal.
The first flicker of hope appears on Thursday the 17th of July. The swell picks up a touch, hitting 3 ft from the NE with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 50 (moderate wave energy), but the wind is cross-shore at 12 mph, making it choppy. It’s still not good enough to recommend.
The real standout—and honestly, the only one worth paddling out for—is the Sunday the 19th of July. The morning sees a 5 ft swell from the NE, with a period of 9 seconds. That’s a solid, longer-period groundswell, which will give the waves some shape. The combined energy is a strong 307. The wind is cross-off from the N at 12 mph, so the surf will be clean. The afternoon stays clean with a cross-off at 16 mph, energy still high at 275. This is the best on offer. The afternoon of Saturday the 18th also has some moderate energy (145), but with a cross-shore wind, it’ll be a bit scrappy. The Monday the 20th still has size (5 ft) and energy (314), but the wind swings cross-shore again, so it won’t be as clean as the Sunday.
For the window, the Sunday 19th of July is your best bet. The swell is 5 ft from the NE, period is a decent 9 seconds, and the wind is off the land. It’s not huge, but it’s the most rideable wave in the whole 16 days. The break is a sheltered reef, so it’ll handle that swell direction okay. Keep in mind, El Burro is an inconsistent spot, so a run like this, while frustrating, is normal for the area. The long wait will be worth it for that Sunday session.
Rusty.
