The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – it’s looking pretty bleak out there. The entire 16-day window is one long stretch of flat, weak, and messy conditions. There’s really nothing I can point to and say “get on it.” The only break we’ve got data for is El Burro, and it’s a sheltered, inconsistent reef that barely ever sees any energy. It’s a beginner spot at the best of times, and right now, it’s not even that.
The first real pulse of energy doesn’t show up until Friday, 28 August, with some swell from the NNE pushing 5 ft to 5 ft and a period of 8 seconds. The combined swell energy hits 236-300 (moderate), which sounds okay, but the wind is a fresh 22 mph cross or cross-onshore, turning it into lumpy, messy slop. That’s not surf, that’s a washing machine. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
After that, there’s a bit more energy on Saturday 29 August (4 ft, NE, 8 sec, 155 energy) and Sunday 30 August (3 ft, NE, 7 sec, 127 energy), but again, the wind is up in the 16-19 mph range and it's all cross or cross-onshore chop. Not worth paddling out for.
Things pick up again around Wednesday, 2 September, with a NNE swell hitting 4 ft to 4 ft and 8-second periods, energy in the 179-193 range, but once again, fresh 16-19 mph cross-shore winds ruin any chance of a clean wave. This pattern just keeps repeating.
The biggest swell of the whole period arrives on Sunday, 6 September, with a 5 ft NNE swell and 8-second period, giving us 387 energy (moderate). But guess what? Wind is 16 mph cross-shore, and the forecast is still "poor surf conditions." At that size, with that wind, it’s going to be a bumpy mess, not something I’d get excited about.
Honestly, for the entire 16 days, every single entry is scored as “poor surf conditions.” There are no standouts. If you’re desperate, the cleanest looking windows are the Monday morning, 31 August (3 ft, NNE, 7 sec, cross-off wind) and Sunday morning, 23 August (0.7 ft, 5 sec, light wind), but those are barely a ripple. With El Burro being so inconsistent and sheltered, a blank run like this is pretty normal for the area. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
