Alright, Rusty here. Let me break it down for Deerfield Beach Pier over the next couple of weeks, and I gotta be honest—it’s looking rough for any real surf.
We’ve got a long stretch of nothing worth paddling for up front. The first real bump in the water doesn’t come until around July 10th, and even then, it’s weak. Before that, days and days of tiny ankle-biters with cross-onshore or onshore wind. Swell heights are mostly under 2 ft, period short—4 to 8 seconds—and wave energy stays low (combined energy numbers like 16, 24, 8, 10, 7, 10, 16, 15, 26, 18). That’s flat to poor.
July 10th Friday morning shows a 4 ft swell from the southeast, period around 5 seconds, with 15 km/h onshore wind from the east-southeast. Combined energy hits 71, which is moderate but nothing to get stoked on. It’s the biggest of the whole forecast though. Afternoon drops to 3 ft, same direction, similar wind. With onshore breeze and short period, it’ll be bumpy and weak. Not a standout, just the only pulse.
After that, it’s back to knee-high stuff through mid-July—0.7 ft to 1 ft, mostly east or southeast, with cross-on or onshore winds. Energy dips to single or low double digits by July 13th and 14th (10, 16, 8, 10, 7). On July 12th Sunday morning the wind goes glassy (5 km/h from the south), but the swell is only 1 ft with an 8-second period. Pretty but flat.
By July 18th Saturday, there’s a small bump to 2 ft from the east-southeast with a 4-second period and light onshore wind. Combined energy of 33—still weak. Then July 19th Sunday morning brings 2 ft from the northeast with a 7-second period and a light west-southwest cross-offshore breeze at 10 km/h. That wind makes for clean conditions (combined energy 43). Best chance for something rideable, but with such short period, don’t expect much.
For an “inconsistent” spot like Deerfield Beach Pier, this kind of long flat spell isn’t unusual. Forecasts can change, but right now, your best bet is either July 10th for a little size or July 19th for clean tiny waves.
Rusty.
