Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks. I'm gonna be straight with you – it’s a bit of a flat spell, and I'm not gonna sugar-coat it. We’re looking at a long stretch of pretty uninspiring conditions, with the first real chance of anything worthwhile being a long way off.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, from Tuesday, July 7th right through to Wednesday, July 22nd, the main story at Deerfield Beach Pier is a persistent lack of any decent swell energy. For the vast majority of this period, the combined energy of all swells directed here is well below 100, usually sitting in the single digits or low double-digits, which is very weak. The swell heights are tiny, mostly between 0.7 ft and 3 ft, with short, weak periods of 4 to 8 seconds. That's windswell at best, and with onshore or cross-onshore winds for nearly every day, it’s going to be messy and bumpy. I’d say the first solid week is basically a write-off. There’s a real gap of about 9 or 10 days with nothing to even get excited about.
Now, let’s talk about the one slight glimmer of hope. It's a long shot, and it's a long way off, but later in the forecast we get a small window. On Monday, July 13th, we finally see a change. The morning has a light offshore wind from the WNW at 6 mph, which will finally clean things up. The swell is still tiny, just 0.7 ft from the east, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is just 10. It’s not going to be any kind of classic, but for a small-wave, longboard session with an empty lineup, this is about your best bet. The water temperature is around 86°F, which is about 2°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so you can leave the wetsuit at home. Just be aware that Deerfield is sheltered and inconsistent, so even with that offshore wind, don't expect much.
Then on Tuesday, July 14th, we get a brief moment of completely cross-shore wind from the south at only 3 mph in the morning. That’s glassy conditions, and with that same tiny 0.7 ft easterly swell, it might be smooth enough for a fun little session on a foamie or a SUP. The energy is still super weak though, only 8.
After that, it’s back to the same old story of onshore winds and tiny, weak swell right through to the end of the period. There really isn't a standout session in the bunch. The only thing that’s slightly different is the wind direction. If conditions on Monday the 13th or Tuesday the 14th don't line up for you, the forecast just gets poor again. For the rest of the month, you're better off looking at other activities. This is just one of those periods where the ocean takes a nap.
Stay patient, keep checking back, forecasts can change.
Rusty.
