The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Cremorne Point over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you – it's a tough stretch. We're looking at a long, dry run with nothing doing. For the first week and a half, from Tuesday the 4th right through to the middle of the following week, the surf is just not there. We're talking tiny little 0.7ft to 1ft pulses from the south, with a combined energy that barely gets out of the double digits most days (17-95). That's not surf, that's a lake with a bit of a wobble. The wind is all over the shop too, mostly cross-off or cross, but it doesn't matter when there's no wave to push around. It's a proper blank period.

Now, things try to get a bit of a pulse going around Tuesday the 11th. The swell finally starts to show a bit of life, pushing up to 2ft from the south with a period of 18 seconds. That's a long-period groundswell, so there's some energy behind it, and the combined energy jumps into the 300s (307-325). The Tuesday afternoon in particular looks glassy, which is a beautiful thing. But here's the kicker – the model still calls it "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions", only a 1 out of 10. It's just not enough to get excited about on a point break that's "very sheltered" from the south. The swell direction is wrong for the spot to really light up.

The best of a very average bunch might be Wednesday the 12th. The morning shows a clean 3ft south swell with a 19-second period, and we've got a moderate offshore wind from the WSW (25 km/h). The combined energy hits 455, which is the biggest we see. But again, 3ft on a point that needs a proper size and direction to work is a tough ask. The water temp is sitting at 53°F, which is about 1°F cooler than normal for this time of year – so pretty average, just a bit nippy.

After that, it fades fast again. The 13th has some clean 2ft-2ft waves, but the energy drops back and the quality is just not there. By Friday the 14th, we're back to poor conditions. The rest of the run into the 19th is tiny, messy, or onshore. A few glassy moments on the 19th, but with only 0.7ft on offer, it's a no-go.

Honestly, there's no standout session here. If you're desperate for a paddle, Wednesday the 12th is your best bet, but keep expectations low. It's a quiet, quiet period for Cremorne Point.

Rusty.
