Table - best surf conditions forecast for Seven Mile Beach and Point over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight – Seven Mile Beach and Point is having a rough patch. It’s a point break that’s inconsistent and intermediate friendly, but honestly, for the next week and a bit, there’s almost nothing worth paddling out for. The first solid window doesn’t open until Tuesday, July 14th.
We start with a long, quiet slump. From Friday the 10th right through to Monday the 13th, it’s mostly tiny, weak dribble or full-on blown-out conditions. Winds are up, swell is down – you’re looking at 0.7ft to 2ft of S swell with periods all over the place, but the energy is weak (most values under 200). The only bit of relief is that the winds do swing offshore or cross-off at times, keeping things clean, but it’s just not enough wave to get excited about.
Things finally start waking up on Tuesday morning, July 14th. We’ve got 2ft of south swell, period 18 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell, and the combined energy is sitting at 300 (moderate). Best of all, it’s a moderate offshore wind from the west, so that point should be glassy and peeling. This is the standout of the whole run. The water temp anomaly doesn’t show anything unusual, so it’s about average for this time of year. Keep an eye out for crowds though – it says ‘sometimes’, so you might have company.
Wednesday the 15th keeps the vibes going. Morning and afternoon both have 2ft to 3ft of SSW swell, still with 16-second periods and combined energy pushing 400. Winds are gentle cross-off from the WNW – clean and lined up. Solid session material.
Then… it fades again. Thursday the 16th drops to 1.0ft junk, and we drift through another run of tiny, low-energy days with cross-shore breezes and messy conditions right up to Wednesday the 22nd. Most days show less than 100 combined energy – that’s barely a ripple.
But don’t write off the second week just yet. Thursday, July 23rd offers a glimpse: morning has 2ft of S swell, gentle offshore wind, energy at 191 (weak-moderate) – surfable but ordinary. Then the afternoon turns glassy with WNW winds calm, 3ft SSW swell, 16-second period, and combined energy of 362 (moderate). That’s a quiet, clean session in the making.
Then Friday, July 24th is the dark horse – morning shows 6ft of short-period S swell (9 seconds) with energy hitting 524 (strong). That’s expert territory for size, but the period is short, so it’ll be a bit walled-up and lumpy on the point. Afternoon drops to 6ft but keeps the 9-second period, with combined energy at 461 (strong). Both sessions are clean under cross-off NNW winds, but that short period means it’s best left to the experienced crew. Not a standout for the average punter.
So, the only real highlight in this 16-day run is Tuesday, July 14th and Wednesday, July 15th – that’s your window for clean, reasonable groundswell with good winds. The rest is mostly flat or blown out. The gaps between those days are painful: almost a week of nothing at the start, then another 8-day trough after the 15th before the final spike on the 24th. For an inconsistent spot like this, that’s not unusual – but it still stings.
Stay patient. I’ll keep an eye on the charts.
Rusty.
