Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Righto, surf fans, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards over the next couple of weeks. We're focusing on the Seven Mile Beach and Point (point) area. The pattern is a bit of a slow burner, with a promising window of cleaner, better waves, and then a proper pulse of size further out.
The swell is a consistent south direction, which is the optimum here. Water temps are about average for the time of year, nothing unusual there.
We kick off Tuesday the 7th with small, surfable waves around 2 ft from the south, but the conditions are pretty ordinary. Tuesday afternoon actually turns glassy, which is a nice start, but the swell is minimal. Wednesday the 8th looks cleaner with a light cross-off breeze and the swell building slightly to 2 ft, with a long period of 19 seconds giving it some punch. Combined energy is moderate (376), so it's surfable but not a standout.
Thursday the 9th drops right off in the morning, only 1.0 ft and weak energy (47). Afternoon picks up a touch but is still very small. The weekend (11th and 12th of July) is a write-off – tiny waves and strong winds, just not worth paddling out. It’s a quiet patch.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Monday the 13th is our first real highlight. We've got a solid 3 ft to 3 ft southerly swell, but that number doesn't tell the full story – the period is a deep, long 19 seconds (very long period groundswell), and the combined energy is pumping at 460 to 587. Add to that a moderate to gentle offshore wind from the west-northwest, so it’ll be clean. This is a proper point break setup, so those long-period lines will wrap in nicely. Conditions look good for intermediate surfers.
After that, the energy drops back off again for a few days with much smaller wave heights and messy or strong winds. Hang in there.
Then, way out in the forecast, we’ve got a standout that's worth mentioning even though it's ten days away. On Monday the 20th of July, the charts are lighting up with a significant swell. We're looking at 6 ft to 6 ft from the south-southwest, with a period of 16 seconds and a combined energy reading over 1600 (1654 to 1777). That's strong, powerful surf. The wind is forecast to be a gentle offshore breeze from the west. This size (over 5 ft) will be too much for beginners, but for experienced surfers looking for a challenge, it’s shaping up as excellent, clean conditions. The crowd profile says "sometimes," so you might have a handful of others with the same idea, but it's not packed. This is the biggest, best-looking window in the whole run.
After that, the swell drops back down to more manageable, smaller surf for the tail end of the period. So, to sum it up: small and ordinary for the first week, a nice clean window around the 13th of July, and then that big, proper pulse on the 20th.
Rusty.
