Alright, let’s look at what’s on offer for Seven Mile Beach and Point over the next couple weeks.
First thing – this spot can be inconsistent, and you’re going to feel that over this stretch. The first few days are pretty ho-hum, but there is a real window of quality if you’re willing to wait.
Saturday the 4th starts with a 3 ft S swell, period around 14 seconds – groundswell – but with a fresh 19 mph cross-off from the WSW, the surface is messy. The combined energy is moderate at 394. Saturday afternoon sees the swell jump to 6 ft from the SSW with a 16 second period and energy hits 1849 – that’s strong – but again the cross-off wind ruins the party.
Sunday the 5th is the real standout. Morning brings a 5 ft S swell with a long 17 second period, but the big difference is the wind – light offshore from the WSW at just 6 mph. The energy is strong at 1150 and conditions are expected to be very good. The afternoon turns glassy with a light SSW breeze, 4 ft S swell at 16 seconds and 630 energy. Clean, lined up and perfect for the point. This is the best session of the whole outlook.
Monday the 6th bottoms out – 2 ft S swell in the morning, weak energy at 149, light cross-off wind. Not worth the drive. The afternoon glass-off gives 3 ft SSW and a bit more energy (370), but it’s still small.
From Tuesday the 7th it drops into a long lull. Tuesday afternoon has 4 ft SSW at 16 seconds and moderate energy (1007), but the wind is a 16 mph cross-off from the SW, so it’s bumpy. After that it’s tiny waves – 2 ft or less – with energy mostly below 200. The 8th and 9th are cross-shore and small.
From the 10th through the 12th it’s basically flat – 0.7 ft to 1.0 ft, energy in the teens. Moderate cross or onshore winds. There’s a solid five-day stretch where it’s almost not breaking.
Things perk up a bit around Monday the 13th July. The morning shows 2 ft S swell with a long 19 second period and moderate energy (305), plus clean offshore wind from the WNW at 16 mph. Small but clean – best for a longboard. Tuesday the 14th is similar – 3 ft S swell at 12 seconds, 307 energy, light cross-off breeze.
Thursday the 16th July is another clean window. Morning brings 3 ft S swell at 17 seconds, 370 energy, light offshore from the NNW. The afternoon goes glassy off the NW with 2 ft S swell at 16 seconds and 339 energy. Clean, lined up, but not big.
From Friday 17th through Sunday 19th it’s back to flat – 0.7 ft to 2 ft, energy under 180. Nothing exciting.
So the standout is Sunday the 5th, particularly that glassy afternoon session. The long S groundswell with light offshore or glassy conditions will make the point clean. It’s not huge, so crowds should be manageable. Thursday the 16th is another little highlight for clean but small conditions.
Water temp – the anomaly label is blank, so I’d say it’s about average for the time of year. Nothing wild.
Stay patient and aim for Sunday the 5th. This break can be quiet for days and then give you a real gem.
Rusty.
