The Lowdown

Alright, this is Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the table for the next couple of weeks at Canto de Jacone. It's a sheltered little spot, a beach and point combo, but it's a fickle one – rarely breaks. So when it does show, you gotta be on it.

Right now, we're in a bit of a flat spell. For the first few days, from Sunday the 13th through to Tuesday the 15th, it’s pretty grim. We're looking at tiny, weak swell with poor wind. The water temp is sitting at 72°, which is pretty average for this time of year, nothing unusual there. But the surf is just not happening, with wave energy barely ticking over (53). Not worth getting wet for.

We then hit a dry patch from Wednesday the 16th right through to Wednesday the 23rd. There are a few little pulses in there, but nothing that really comes together. Thursday morning the 17th sees a bit of a bump up to 5ft from the south, with glassy conditions early, and the energy climbs (510). That’s about the only real window, and even then, it's just "expect good surf conditions" – not a standout. Friday the 18th gets blown out by a fresh breeze, so that's a no-go. It’s a long stretch of poor to ordinary conditions.

Now, if you've got some patience, there's a real glimmer at the end of the tunnel. The standout looks to be Friday the 25th. We've got a 6ft south-southwest swell, and the period is a solid 14 seconds – proper groundswell. The energy is cranking (1106), and with a light east-northeast breeze keeping it clean, this is the pick of the forecast. That kind of long-period south-southwest swell should wrap in nicely to the point at Canto de Jacone, offering up some decent shape. It’s a rarely-breaking spot, so to see it with this kind of quality is a big deal. Keep in mind, though, that this is over a week away, so it's a promising outlook but one we’ll need to keep an eye on. Saturday the 26th also looks good with a clean 4ft swell and glassy conditions, a solid backup option.
