The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. I’ve been staring at the charts for this stretch of coast and, to be honest, it's a tough one. The whole sixteen-day window is one long, frustrating run of poor conditions. There's no real standout, no day where everything clicks. It’s a long dry spell.
Let’s start with Baldwin Beach Park. This spot is a reef and point setup and it's usually very consistent, but the wind is the problem. We kick off Wednesday the 15th and for the next week and a half, it’s cross-shore or cross-onshore winds every day, blowing at 9 to 15 mph with a chop. The swell is always around, between 2 ft and 5 ft, mostly from the ENE, and the period is short—6 to 8 seconds—so the waves are weak and jumbly. The combined energy is moderate at best, hitting around 114 to 353, which is just not enough to clean anything up. The water temp is about average for the season at 79°, nothing unusual there, but you won't care about that when the lineup is a mess.
This pattern of poor surf runs all the way through until Wednesday the 22nd, with no relief. On the 22nd, we see a bump in period to 13 seconds and energy climbs to 300-plus, but the waves are tiny at 2 ft and the wind is still cross. It’s still not surfable.
The next real change doesn't show up until the last few days. On the 26th of July, we get a pulse of long-period swell from the E at 15-16 seconds. The size is only 4 ft, but the combined energy is strong at over 1100. With that long period, this point and reef setup should draw it in nicely. However, it’s still flagged as marginal, and the wind is moderate cross-shore, not clean, so it won’t be the polished ride you're hoping for. It’s the best of a bad lot, but that’s not saying much.
After that, the final days tick over with similar cross-onshore winds and a slight uptick in size to 5-6 ft, but energy stays moderate and the "poor surf conditions" tag sticks. There’s nothing here for beginners with that short-period chop, and even for experts, the lack of a clean window is a dealbreaker. Honestly, if the wind doesn’t shift, you’re better off finding something else to do. I’d be looking for a lake or a flat-water spot.
Rusty.
