Table - best surf conditions forecast for Baldwin Beach Park over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Looking at Baldwin Beach Park, a reef and point on the North Shore. And I gotta say, the next couple weeks aren’t looking good for a surf. This break is very consistent, so it’s not the swell that’s the problem—it’s the conditions. For the whole run, we’ve got a stiff cross-shore breeze from the ENE and east, blowing at 12 to 16 mph, just messin’ up the face. Not offshore, not glassy, just a cross-chop. Even when the swell pushes up to about 7 ft—which is gettin’ a bit much for beginners—the notes say “poor surf conditions,” and the scores are flat zeros.
The water temp is around 80°, and that’s right about average for this time of year. Nothing wild.
The pattern is rough. From July 7th all the way to the 16th, we’re stuck with that cross-shore wind and moderate wave energy (around 300 to 500 in the combined energy). The swell is a short-period windswell from the ENE, about 7 or 8 seconds. Short period and cross-wind—that’s a bumpy mess. There’s one day that stands out: July 17th, Friday morning. The energy climbs to 514 and the comment goes from “poor” to “marginal.” That’s 6 ft of ENE swell with a cross breeze, but at least it’s a sniff. Still not clean, and not a real standout.
After the 17th, the swell drops. The last week sees heights fall to around 4 ft, and the wind turns cross-onshore, which is even worse for this point. The whole 16 days is pretty much one long stretch of poor surf. There’s no flat spell, just a spell of rideable stuff—and that’s basically the whole window.
If you’re lookin’ for the best of it, that Friday morning, July 17th, is your only real shot. 6 ft from the ENE with moderate energy (514). Still cross-shore and choppy, but if you’re keen, that’s the pick. Crowds can be common here, but with conditions this average, it might be quiet. That ENE swell is close to the break’s favorite direction (NNE), but the short period means it’ll be weak and bumpy.
Honestly, for a reef and point, that wind pattern makes it look better for a kite session than a paddle. If the forecast shifts, it can turn around, but right now, stay on the beach.
Rusty.
