Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cooking for Baldwin Beach Park.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: this stretch of the 16-day window is a tough one. We’re looking at a run of poor surf conditions that just keeps going. From Monday the 6th right through to Sunday the 19th, the waves are there, but the quality is shot. The combined swell energy hangs between 180 and 443, which is moderate energy, but every single session is tagged with a “poor surf conditions” warning. The swell is mostly coming from the ENE at around 5 ft to 6 ft, but the period is short—only 7 to 8 seconds. That’s weak, wind-driven junk for the most part. And the wind? It’s cross-shore or cross-onshore from the ENE, blowing 12 to 19 mph, keeping everything choppy and lumpy. Not the kind of day you’d paddle out for.
Now, let's talk about Baldwin Beach Park itself. It’s a reef and point setup, beginner-friendly, and very consistent, so there’s always something to look at. The water temperature is sitting at 79°F with a 0.9°F anomaly—pretty much average for this time of year, so no surprises there. But the wind and the short-period swell are just not playing ball. For a break that needs that NNE optimum direction, we’re getting ENE swell, which is off-angle, and the cross-winds are messing up the face.
There is one little flicker of hope around Tuesday the 21st. You get a long-period groundswell sneaking in—17 seconds on the morning, 16 seconds in the afternoon—which is very long period. That’s the kind of energy that can wrap around reefs and points nicely. But the swell height drops to just 2 ft to 2 ft, and the wind is still howling cross-shore at 12 to 16 mph. The combined energy jumps to 335 and 399, which shows the power is there, but the size is too small to ride. Also, a long period swell that small at a beach-break-like setup can be tricky—tends to break straight on the sand. So while it’s promising to see some groundswell on the charts, it’s not going to deliver anything rideable.
Honestly, there’s no standout here. The whole forecast is a write-off for decent paddle surfing. If you’re into kite surfing, the consistent cross-winds and moderate swell energy might be your thing, but for a surfer looking for clean waves, I’d sit this one out. Keep an eye on the charts—sometimes these runs don’t last.
Rusty.
