Alright, I’ve been staring at the charts and let’s get real with you.
Honestly, this is a grim run for Baldwin Beach Park. We’re looking at a massive dry spell here. The entire 16-day window is basically a write-off for anything decent. There’s not a single session I’d call good. We’ve got consistent, workable swell heights hanging around the 4ft to 6ft range, but the wind is the real killer. It’s locked in from the ENE to E, blowing 12 to 15 mph, and it’s always cross-shore or cross-onshore. That means every session is going to be chopped up, bumpy, and just plain ugly. The combined energy of all swells is moderate, ranging from about 178 to 370, but it doesn’t matter when the surface is so torn up.
We start Friday morning, July 3rd, with a clear sky but that nasty cross-shore wind, a 5ft ENE swell at a short 8 seconds, and the water temp is a balmy 79° with an anomaly of plus 0.5°, so about average for the time of year. It’s all downhill from there. The swell pushes up to 6ft by Tuesday the 7th, but with the same chunky cross-shore wind, it’s just messy.
Around Monday the 13th afternoon, the wind eases back to a light breeze, and we see a 5ft ENE swell at 8 seconds, but it’s only a marginal call with questionable tide. The combined energy even climbs to 340, but it’s still just a brief tease of something that might have been okay. After that, the swell drops, and the wind picks right back up.
From Friday the 17th onward, the period drops to a pathetic 6 seconds, and the swell is mostly 4ft to 5ft, but the wind is still howling. The only highlight, if you can call it that, is that the setup is about as interesting for kite surfing as it is for paddle surfing, given the consistent cross-shore wind and constant chop. This place is a reef and point break that’s very consistent, which normally would be a good thing, but it’s just missing every piece of the puzzle.
So, save the wax. The forecast might change, but right now, don’t bother paddling out for the next two weeks. There’s nothing to get excited about.
