Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Aberaeron over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I’ve got to be honest with you – it’s looking pretty bleak. There’s not a single surfable option in the whole sixteen-day window here. The guidance file shows Aberaeron as an inconsistent beach and point break that’s fairly exposed, but with the swell direction we’ve got coming in, it’s just not shaping up. The first few days are a write-off, with tiny waves, onshore and cross-onshore winds, and poor conditions across the board.
The water’s running a bit unusual for this time of year, sitting at 63° on Sunday morning, which is a good 5° warmer than the long-term average – definitely notable, but not a massive game-changer when there’s no surf to enjoy.
We’ve got a real gap here. From the 5th of July right through to the 20th of July, there’s nothing that even comes close to a recommendation. Every single forecast window shows “poor surf conditions” with a score of 0 out of 10. The combined swell energy barely scrapes into double figures most days, with the biggest reading being 135 on the 19th of July afternoon – still weak to moderate energy, but the swell’s only 5ft from the WSW with a short period of 6 seconds, and the wind’s cross-onshore. That’s not going to be any good for paddle surfing. In fact, with that setup, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than anything else.
Even the glassy morning on the 8th of July only has 0.7ft of swell. Clean, sure, but you can’t surf what isn’t there.
There’s no standout, no hidden gem, no sneaky pulse. It’s just a blank run, and unfortunately, that’s not unusual for this area when the swell direction doesn’t line up. Keep an eye on the long-range, but for now, leave the boards in the van.
Rusty.
