Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s happening with the surf. I’ll be straight with you – this 16-day window is a bit of a dud. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing to get excited about, so don’t be in a rush to grab your board.
The Overall Picture
Honestly, it’s a grim outlook. For the first few days, there’s essentially no surf to speak of. We’re looking at a flat spell from Sunday the 12th right through until the middle of the following week. The swell energy is just pathetic, with values mostly in the single digits (0-7). The wind is a problem too, mostly cross-off or cross-onshore, which isn’t doing us any favours. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual there.
The only faint glimmer of hope, and I mean faint, pops up right at the very end of the forecast. On Monday the 27th of July, we finally see a little pulse of energy. The swell is coming from the West-Southwest at 2 ft, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is a mere 42, which is still weak. The wind is light and cross-onshore, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. This is about as close to a ‘standout’ as we get, but it’s a poor excuse for a wave. The break is Aberaeron, a beach and point setup that’s inconsistent and can get crowded. For a sliver of hope, you’d be looking at a tiny, weak wave.
Day-by-Day Breakdown
From Sunday the 12th to Friday the 24th of July, it’s a write-off. The swell is either zero or, at best, a tiny 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft with no energy. The wind is mostly cross-off or cross-onshore, making it clean but surf-less. A few days, like the 16th, have light cross-onshore winds, but it’s still flat. There’s nothing to ride.
On Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th, it’s still flat. Monday the 27th of July is the only day that even registers. That small 2 ft swell from the WSW with a 9-second period is the best we’ve got. The light cross-onshore wind will keep it bumpy, but it’s something. Don’t expect any quality. It’s a last resort kind of session.
The Verdict
Don’t bother. This is a classic blank run for the area. The forecasts can change, but right now, the only thing worth noting is that tiny, poor-quality swell on the 27th. For the rest of the 16 days, your board is staying in the car.
Rusty.
