Windies (Ngawi) Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G’day, this is Rusty. We’ve got a wild 16-day window shaping up for Windies (Ngawi). It’s a reef and point setup, fairly consistent, and it eats a south swell best. The water’s sitting at 54°F with a tiny anomaly of 0.4°F, so it’s bang on average for the time of year. The first few days are a write-off, but don’t lose hope – there’s some real gems hiding in the second week.

The outlook kicks off with a rough patch. Friday the 31st of July is a total bust – strong NW breeze ripping through at 25 mph, cross-shore, with tiny 3 ft east swell. The energy is a weak 193, and it’s messy cross-chop. Saturday the 1st of August brings a massive spike in swell – 18 ft from the SSW – but there’s a 25 mph onshore wind and it’s a poor surf conditions call. Sunday the 2nd of August is a bit better: 5 ft of SSW swell, gentle NW cross-shore, but only marginal. The energy is moderate at 1383. Monday the 3rd of August is similar, marginal at best. Then Tuesday the 4th of August is another huge swell pulse – 16 ft from the SSW – but again onshore winds and poor conditions. Wednesday the 5th of August has 10 ft of S swell, but it’s cross-onshore and choppy. Still marginal.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Thursday the 6th of August – mark this one. The morning is glassy, dead still, with a 5 ft SSW swell. The energy is moderate at 1144, and the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. The wind is a slight air from the SSE, so it’s pure glass. This is a standout for the clean, lined-up waves on that reef.

Friday the 7th of August drops off – small 3 ft SSE swell, light cross-off breeze, but it’s clean. Nothing to write home about. Saturday the 8th of August is a ripper: morning offshore NNE breeze at 3 mph, 5 ft SSW swell with a 14-second period. The energy is 908, and it’s very good surf conditions. Sunday the 9th of August brings a 7 ft SE swell, but the period is short at 8 seconds – a bit wonky. The morning is clean though.

The second week gets big. Monday the 10th of August – the swell jumps to 12 ft from the ESE, but the wind is cross-off and clean. However, the breakout notes say the swell is too big for this break. It’s a solid 1572 energy, but only for the experts. Tuesday the 11th of August is 13 ft east swell, offshore NE breeze, clean – again, too big for most. The energy is 3801. Wednesday the 12th of August is similar: 12 ft east swell, cross-off, 3015 energy. Too big. Thursday the 13th of August is 13 ft ESE swell, offshore NE, clean, but too big. Friday the 14th of August – this one stands out. The swell drops to 10 ft from the ESE, but the wind is cross-off, clean, and the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. The energy is 1656. Saturday the 15th of August is blown out with a near gale NW wind at 31 mph, messy.

The real standout is Thursday the 6th of August: glassy, 5 ft SSW swell, perfect for a reef setup. The second standout is Friday the 14th of August: 10 ft ESE swell, clean, for the experienced crew. The periods on the standouts are 11 seconds and 10 seconds – solid groundswell, shaping up nicely on the point. Expect crowds to be possible at Windies, as it’s never crowded, but with these conditions, you might see a few locals out.
