The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Dee Dees over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we've got a few rough days to get through. Wednesday and Thursday are looking pretty ordinary with messy cross-shore winds and weak, short-period swell—not worth paddling out for. The water temp is sitting at 54°F, which is about normal for this time of year, so nothing weird there.
Things start to turn around on Friday the 17th. The morning shows a clean 5ft SSW swell with a light cross-offshore breeze, and the combined energy is moderate (784). But the real standout is Friday afternoon. We're looking at 5ft of solid SSW groundswell with a 14-second period and glassy conditions. The swell energy is strong (1200), and it's clean as a whistle. This is excellent stuff for experienced surfers—long period like that loves a reef setup like Dee Dees, giving you proper, well-shaped waves with long gaps between sets. If you can get out there, this is the best of the week.
Saturday sees a drop in size, with 4ft and clean conditions in the morning, but the afternoon gets a bit choppy with a cross-onshore breeze. Sunday though, that's another cracker. The morning brings 6ft of SSW swell with a 17-second period, clean as, and the energy is pumping (1906). This is for experienced surfers again—definitely not for beginners. The afternoon stays glassy with 6ft, but the conditions are a bit more mixed.
Monday the 20th is another top pick. The morning has 6ft SSW swell, clean, and strong energy (1716). The afternoon is glassy with 7ft of the same swell—just beautiful. This is expert territory, but if you've got the skills, the waves will be firing.
The rest of the week tapers off. Tuesday still has some clean 5ft in the morning, but by the afternoon it's getting sloppy. From Wednesday the 22nd onwards, the size drops, and the wind starts playing up again. Thursday the 23rd has a couple of glassy 3ft waves, but they're small and ordinary. Then Friday the 24th is a write-off with strong cross-shore winds.
The second week is a bit of a mixed bag. Saturday the 25th shows a late arvo glassy 5ft NW swell—worth a look if you're desperate. But Sunday and Monday are back to choppy, messy conditions. Tuesday the 28th has a clean 3ft but it's weak. The biggest thing in the whole run is Wednesday the 29th with a 8ft SSW swell, but it's blowing 19 mph cross-onshore, making it a lumpy mess—definitely not for paddling, maybe more suited to kites.
So, to wrap it up: the best windows are Friday afternoon the 17th, Sunday the 19th, and Monday the 20th. These are the standouts. Get on them if you can.
Rusty.
