Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s coming up at Dee Dees.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a wild ride ahead. The next few days are looking pretty rough, with a big pulse of south swell and howling winds making a mess of things. But hang in there – there are a couple of clean windows further out that are worth waiting for.
Tuesday, July 7th starts us off with a marginal session. We’ve got a 5ft to 6ft SSW swell rolling in with a 10-second period, so the energy is moderate at 765–849 (combined energy). The wind is a cross-off from the ESE at 19 mph, which will clean it up a bit, but the conditions are still questionable.
Wednesday, July 8th is a write-off. The swell jumps to 7ft to 8ft, but the period drops to a short 7 seconds, and the wind swings onshore from the south. The result is poor surf – lumpy and choppy. Don’t bother.
Thursday, July 9th gets big, with 15ft of S swell, 10-second period, and wind howling across the break at 25–28 mph. The combined energy is astronomical (3765–4121), but it’s a total mess. This is more of a kitesurfing setup than anything you want to paddle into.
Friday, July 10th offers a glimmer. Morning sees an 8ft S swell, 8-second period, but it’s still cross-shore with a fresh breeze. The data says the swell is too big for this break, so unless you’re a seasoned charger, give it a miss.
Saturday, July 11th drops right off to 2ft to 2ft. The long 14–17 second period is nice but there's not enough wave height to work with. Marginal at best.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting.
Sunday, July 12th is a proper standout. The morning and afternoon both look clean with a 3ft SSW groundswell (14-second period) and a light offshore/cross-off breeze from the NNE at 6 mph. Combined energy sits at 323–282 – not huge, but the setup is glassy and clean. This is the best session of the first week for Dee Dees. Just know that this break can get crowded sometimes, so get in early.
Monday, July 13th and Tuesday, July 14th are back to poor conditions with messy, onshore winds and tiny swell. Not worth the paddle.
Wednesday, July 15th is flat with a 1ft to 1ft swell – forget it.
Thursday, July 16th has a small 5ft W groundswell with a short 5-second period, but it's cross-off and clean. Marginal call at best.
But hold on – the second week delivers the real gem.
Monday, July 20th is the absolute standout of the entire outlook. We’ve got a 6ft SSE groundswell with a solid 12-second period. The combined energy is strong at 1129, and the wind is a light cross-off from the NE at 9 mph, making for clean conditions. The forecast says excellent conditions for experienced surfers. Crowds are possible here, but for the wave quality on offer, it’s worth it. Optimum swell direction for Dee Dees is from the south, and this SSE is close enough to deliver.
Following that, Tuesday, July 21st and Wednesday, July 22nd continue with clean, smaller waves (2ft to 4ft, 12-second period) and offshore breezes. They’re good fun for a grovel session, but not the highlight.
For the water temp, it’s about average for this time of year, nothing out of the ordinary.
Overall, if you’re after the best of it, make a plan for Sunday, July 12th for a clean, smaller long-period swell, and absolutely don’t miss Monday, July 20th for the biggest, cleanest, most powerful swell of the period.
Stay sharp,
Rusty
