Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dee Dees over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. Dee Dees is a reef break, and it’s the only spot we’ve got to look at. Honestly, the first week is a real write-off. The wind is howling from the northwest, onshore or cross-shore, and it’s making a mess of things. The swell is short-period windslop, and the combined energy is weak to moderate – we’re seeing values like 256 (weak energy), 221, 215, and 122 (weak energy). The water temp is sitting at 55°F, which is bang on average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
We get a bit of a pulse on the morning of Friday, July 17th. A solid SSW groundswell comes in at 7ft, 14-second period, but the combined energy skyrockets to 1842. That’s strong wave energy. The problem is, the wind is a light cross-onshore, and the notes say it’s too big for this break. At 8ft in the afternoon, that’s strictly for the experts only. The same thing happens on Saturday, July 20th – 8ft, 14-second period, 2227 combined energy, clean wind, but again, too big for Dee Dees. That’s a real shame.
The standout moment comes on Tuesday, July 21st. The morning sees a 5ft S swell, 13-second period, with a light cross-offshore breeze and clean conditions. Combined energy is 837 (moderate energy). The afternoon cleans up even more: 5ft, 12-second period, from the S, with a light offshore from the ENE. The waves will be clean, well-shaped, and with that longer period, there will be proper gaps between sets. This is the best on offer – a proper surf window.
Later on, Friday, July 24th afternoon looks promising too. 5ft S swell, 13-second period, combined energy 977 (moderate energy), and an offshore breeze. Clean conditions. Saturday, July 25th afternoon has 6ft S swell, short 6-second period, but glassy calm wind. Combined energy is 350 (moderate energy). It’ll be a bit lumpy and less powerful, but fun for a cruiser session.
The rest of the second week is small, weak, and ordinary. Swells drop to under 3ft, combined energy dips as low as 89 (weak energy), and the wind is all over the place. Nothing to get excited about.
So, for the best surf, you’re looking at Tuesday, July 21st. That’s the day. Friday, July 24th afternoon is a solid backup. The big stuff on the 17th and 20th is just too much for this reef.
