Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dee Dees over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s put this in feet and miles per hour, same story.
We’re at Dee Dees, a reef that works best on south swell. Nothing worth paddling for until the tail end of the first week. Wednesday the 8th through Friday the 10th is ugly – cross winds, strong breeze, lumpy mess. Swell runs 7 ft to 13 ft, but the wind just ruins it. That’s kiteboarding weather, not surfing.
Saturday the 11th afternoon, the swell drops to 4 ft from the SSW with a super long period of 17 seconds – real groundswell. Wind goes light, almost glassy. Combined energy is 761 (moderate), so there’s some push for a small wave. Dee Dees as a reef will handle that long period nicely. It’s a clean little session for intermediates. Sunday the 12th keeps it clean with 3 ft SSW swell and light offshore breezes – small but fun.
Then from Monday 13th through to Saturday 18th, it’s a dead zone. Poor wind, weak swell, messy conditions. Nothing to get excited about.
Now mark your calendar: Sunday the 19th morning – that’s the one. Swell is only 1 ft, but the period is 22 seconds! That is incredibly long. Combined energy sits at 318 (moderate) – for that tiny height, it’s packing a punch. Winds are light offshore from the southeast, dead clean. On a reef, that tiny, super-long swell will produce clean, lined-up waves. Not for beginners, but for anyone who knows the break, it’s a standout.
Monday the 20th brings 4 ft to 6 ft from the S-SSW, period 14 seconds, but more cross-wind, so it’s only marginal. Tuesday the 21st is huge – 12 ft from the south with 16-second period – but it’s flagged as too big for this break. That’s experts only, if anyone. Wednesday the 22nd is solid at 6 ft to 7 ft from the S-SSW, period 12 seconds, with light clean wind – a good day for experienced surfers. Thursday the 23rd backs off to 5 ft.
To sum it up: The first week is a bust. The real standout is Sunday the 19th morning – tiny but ultra-long period groundswell with clean wind. The other decent bets are Saturday the 11th afternoon or Wednesday the 22nd for a bigger, clean south swell. That’s where you want to be.
