Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dee Dees over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
We’re starting off with a bit of a quiet spell. The first real surf worth paddling out for is this Sunday morning, the 12th of July, at Dee Dees. It’s a reef break, fairly consistent, and exposed to the south swell. The water temp is sitting at 55°, which is about normal for this time of year, so nothing unusual there. Swell is coming in at a clean 3 ft from the SSW with a 12-second period, and the wind is a light cross-off from the north at 6 mph. Conditions are looking clean, and the combined energy is moderate at 343. It’s not huge, but it’s a decent little wave. Expect crowds are possible here.
Sunday afternoon holds up similar, with a 3 ft SSW swell, 11-second period, and a light 3 mph cross-off wind. Still clean, still surfable, but nothing to get wild about.
Monday the 13th sees the swell drop right off – 1 ft in the morning, cross-off wind but it’s choppy. Monday afternoon is a bit bigger at 2 ft but the wind is cross and it’s messy. Not worth it.
Tuesday the 14th is a write-off. Strong winds, messy cross-chop, and the swell is short period windswell. Forget it.
Wednesday the 15th is more of the same – lumpy, cross-shore, short period. Not good.
Thursday the 16th you’ll see a tiny 1.0 ft SSW groundswell with a 15-second period, and the morning is glassy – that’s rare. Wind is 3 mph from the WNW. The energy is weak at 68, but for a small, clean, glassy morning, you might squeeze out a couple of fun ones if you’re patient. Afternoon goes cross-on and messy.
Friday the 17th morning has a 2 ft SSW swell, 14-second period, and a cross-off breeze. The energy is moderate at 232, but it’s marginal. Not a standout.
Saturday the 18th is where things get serious. The morning kicks off with a 7 ft SSW swell, 21-second period – that’s very long period groundswell. The energy is strong at 4879, but the wind is a fresh cross-shore from the south at 22 mph, making it lumpy. The afternoon sees the swell jump to 8 ft with a 19-second period, energy at 5385, and the wind eases a bit but it’s still cross. The forecast says it’s too big for this break. This is expert-only territory. At a reef, that long period swell could be lining up, but with the wind, it’s messy. If you’re a strong paddler, you might find a wave, but it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Sunday the 19th morning: 7 ft from the south, 14-second period, cross-off wind from the north at 9 mph. Energy is strong at 1904. Again, it’s big – too big for most. Cleaner than Saturday, but still big. Afternoon drops to 6 ft, cross wind, still marginal.
Monday the 20th is the best of the bunch. Morning has a 5 ft S swell, 12-second period, with a light cross-off from the ESE at 6 mph. Energy is moderate to strong at 1329. The forecast says excellent for experienced surfers. That’s a standout. The swell is solid, the wind is light, conditions are clean. For an intermediate to expert surfer, this is the pick. The afternoon sees 4 ft SSW swell, 16-second period, and gentle offshore wind from the east at 9 mph. Energy is 825. Very good surf, clean, and offshore. That’s a great session.
Tuesday the 21st keeps the good vibes. Morning: 4 ft S swell, 16-second period, light offshore from the ENE at 6 mph. Energy 774. Clean. Afternoon: 3 ft S swell, 12-second period, gentle offshore. Good conditions.
After that, the swell drops. Wednesday the 22nd is windy and rainy, poor. Thursday the 23rd is small and rainy, not worth it. Friday the 24th morning picks up a bit with a 3 ft SSW swell, 14-second period, moderate offshore wind. Energy 513. It’s surfable. Afternoon sees a 5 ft SE swell, 8-second period, gentle offshore. That’s a short period, not much grunt, but clean.
The last few days of the window, from the 25th to the 27th, are mostly small, short period, or windy. Nothing to get excited about.
So, the clear standout is Monday the 20th, with Tuesday the 21st also offering very good, clean conditions. The 18th and 19th have size but it’s too big and messy. Get on the Monday morning session if you can.
Rusty.
