Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s break down what Dee Dees (reef) has got on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
The start is a bit of a shocker. Monday afternoon throws up a 10ft SSW swell, but with a short 8-second period and a strong cross-shore wind, it’s choppy and messy. The wave energy’s moderate at 992, but it’s more of a kite-surfing scene than paddle surfing. Tuesday and Wednesday follow with some chest-to-head-high waves, but the wind’s cross or cross-off and the conditions are marginal at best. There’s a bit of a lull here with no solid recommendations for a few days.
Now, let’s talk about Sunday the 12th of July. Sunday afternoon flips the script – it goes glassy with a 3ft SSW groundswell at a very long 14-second period. The energy’s low at 359, but that long period will wrap in nicely on the reef. This is a standout for clean, easy waves for intermediate surfers. With a period over 11 seconds, it might straighten out on a beach break, but here at the reef it should offer nice lines. Crowds are possible sometimes, so keep an eye out.
Into the second week, there’s a few nice moments. On Thursday the 16th of July, Thursday afternoon turns glassy again with 5ft NW windswell at a short 5-second period, energy at 254. It’s a grovelly little swell, but the glassy surface makes it a fun session. Then, look out for Sunday the 19th of July – a massive 15ft SSW swell with very strong energy (3014) and glassy morning conditions. That’s huge, way too big for most – expert-only territory, and the data says it’s too big for this break. If you’re a local charger, it might be on, but be careful.
Finally, Monday the 20th of July afternoon goes glassy, with a clean 6ft S swell at 9 seconds, energy at 741. That’s a solid, fun size with perfect conditions – another standout for intermediates.
So, the first week’s a bust. Your top picks are Sunday the 12th afternoon for clean long-period waves, and Monday the 20th afternoon for clean fun-sized surf. The monster swell on the 19th is for experts only with glassy conditions.
Rusty.
