The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Swift Street.

Honestly, I’m a bit gutted to say this, but it’s a pretty bleak run for the next 16 days. If you’re looking for a wave, you’re gonna be waiting a long time. The entire first week and a half is a write-off, with no real surf on offer. The data shows poor conditions and marginal surf right through from Thursday, 30 July, all the way to the morning of Thursday, 13 August.

The water at Swift Street is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 60°, with an anomaly 2° above average. That’s about the only nice thing I can say.

The best chance we get, and it’s a real long shot, is on the morning of Thursday, 13 August. We’ll see a small SSW swell around 3 ft, with a long period of 16 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, but combined energy is only moderate at 553. The wind is light and onshore, so it won’t be glassy. It’s a marginal call, but it’s the only thing that even gets a second look in the whole forecast.

Swift Street is a sheltered reef break that’s fairly consistent when there’s swell, but it needs WNW swell direction to really fire. This SSW swell is coming from the wrong angle, so it’s not going to be at its best. Add in that crowds are possible, and you’ve got a pretty average prospect.

The rest of the time? Forget it. The swell is too small, the period is all over the place, and the wind is never in the right spot. From the 14th onward, it’s back to poor conditions. This is one of those stretches where you’re better off waxing your board and waiting for a change in the charts.

Rusty.
