Table - best surf conditions forecast for West Wittering over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get this straight. I’ve looked at the charts for the next 16 days here at West Wittering, and I gotta be honest with you – it’s a pretty flat and quiet stretch. The first real sign of any rideable swell doesn’t show up until the middle of the window, but even then it’s nothing to write home about.
We’re looking at a long gap of days with basically no surf to start. Sunday the 12th through to the 16th of July – that’s nearly a week – offers nothing but tiny dribbles and zero wave energy. The wind is offshore or clean for much of that time, but with no swell to push, it’s a total loss. The water temp is about average for the time of year, no major anomaly to report.
Then on Friday the 17th of July, things try to flicker to life. The afternoon brings a short period, windswell from the southwest at 3 ft, but the period is a pathetic 4 seconds – that’s wind-chop territory. The combined energy is only 21 – weak. The onshore wind from the southwest at 16 mph is gonna mess it up anyway. Not a surfer’s day.
The best – and I mean the absolute best of a bad bunch – comes on Saturday the 18th of July. The morning has a light cross-shore breeze from the SSE at 6 mph, and the swell is southwest at 1 ft with a 4-second period. The energy is a measly 5. It’s small, it’s poor, and it’s inconsistent. This break is a sheltered beach/groyne setup, and it rarely gets proper waves. Honestly, with that light wind and tiny swell, it’s more of a paddle than a surf session.
The following week, from the 19th of July onwards, is a repeat of tiny, weak swells, mostly clean conditions but nothing with any push. The energy numbers stay in the single digits or low teens. A few afternoon sessions on the 24th and 27th show a little more activity (2 ft and 2 ft), but with short period and cross-onshore winds, it’s choppy and messy.
There’s no standout, no swell to get excited about. If you’re desperate for a splash, the 27th of July morning might offer the most size at 2 ft from the southwest, 4-second period, and a gentle cross-onshore – but it’s still poor. For a sheltered spot like this, a blank run like this is pretty normal. It’s a tough time to be a surfer here.
