The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty.
Looks like we're in a bit of a flat spell here at Titanzinho. This reef break is very consistent, but the numbers just aren't stacking up for the entire 16-day window. Every single session is rated as poor surf conditions, so there's no standout, no day to get excited about. The combined swell energy is weak to moderate at best, with the highest reading around 362 (moderate) on the morning of Monday, 31 August, but even then the quality is poor.
Let's walk through it. From Sunday the 23rd right through to Monday the 7th of September, it's the same story. The swell is coming from the east or east-northeast, mostly between 4 ft and 6 ft, with periods hanging around 6 to 8 seconds – that's short-period, weak windswell, not the kind of groundswell that gets a reef like this going. The water is sitting at 81°F, which is about 1°F warmer than average for this time of year – nothing unusual there.
The wind is a big part of the problem. While it's often cross-offshore in the mornings, which keeps the surface clean, it's also a fresh breeze at 19 mph on many days, blowing from the southeast or east-southeast. That's enough to mess up the shape on a reef when the swell is weak. Afternoons are worse – cross-shore breezes at 16 mph, creating a lumpy cross-chop.
The best swell direction for Titanzinho is north, but we're getting easterly swell. That's a mismatch. The waves won't wrap in properly, so even when the energy picks up a little, they'll be poorly formed. Short periods under 8 seconds mean the waves lack power and shape – just fat, crumbly lines.
There's a slight uptick in energy around the 31st of August and 1st of September, with the swell reaching 6 ft and the period stretching to 8 seconds, and combined energy hitting 362. But the wind is still cross-shore, and the swell direction is still wrong. It's just not worth the paddle.
Over the whole 16 days, there's a constant gap of poor surf – no recommendations at all. This is a spot that's usually consistent, but right now it's a total write-off. The short-period, wind-affected swell, combined with the wrong direction and persistent breezes, means this setup would actually be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Don't hold your breath for a wave.
Rusty.
