The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on the menu for Titanzinho. I’ve got to be straight with you – this outlook is a tough one. The next 16 days are looking pretty flat and messy for this exposed reef break. There’s no real run of good surf on offer here, just a long stretch of poor conditions.
Looking at the whole picture, the swell is weak and short-period, coming from the east, which isn't the ideal direction for this spot. The best swell for Titanzinho is from the north, so we’re missing that key ingredient. The wind is nearly always a problem too, blowing cross or cross-off from the southeast or east, keeping the surface lumpy and choppy. Water temp is sitting right around 82°F, which is about average for this time of year – nothing unusual there.
The first real recommendation doesn’t come until July 17th, Friday afternoon, and it’s a no-go. Swell is a weak 4 ft from the east at a short 7 seconds, with a cross wind of 15 mph. The combined energy is a mediocre 168. It’s just poor surf.
From there, it’s a long, dull grind. Saturday morning, July 18th, the swell drops to a tiny 0.3 ft – unrideable. The wind is howling at 19 mph. The whole week through to July 24th is a washout. Swell stays between 4 ft and 6 ft, but the period is always 6 or 7 seconds (short and weak), and the wind is never right. The combined energy occasionally bumps up to a moderate 333 on Sunday the 19th, but it’s still a cross-shore chop fest. These waves are just going to be closing out or blown out.
The next 8 days, from July 24th to August 1st, are more of the same. It’s a persistent pattern of 3 ft to 5 ft, east-northeast to east swell with a 6-second period, and cross-shore winds. The combined energy is mostly weak, rarely breaking 200. The closest we get to anything clean is on the morning of July 28th and 29th, with a cross-off wind, but the swell is still a pathetic 4 ft to 4 ft at 6 seconds. It’s just not enough to get excited about. The final day, August 1st, Saturday morning, has a clean look with a cross-off wind, but again, only 4 ft of weak east swell.
Honestly, for a spot that’s very consistent, this is a rough run. The setup is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer on most of these days. There’s just nothing here that stands out. Keep your board in the car and wait for a proper north swell.
Rusty.
