The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be real about this one. Right now, and for the next two weeks, Titanzinho is in a tough spot. The wind is a problem. It’s hooked around from the SE and E, blowing cross-off or cross in the mornings, then turning onshore or cross-shore in the afternoons. That’s gonna keep the surface messy and the waves short-period and weak. The swell is coming from the E and ENE, which is way off the optimum N direction this reef wants. You’re looking at small, sectiony waves with poor shape and confused lines. The energy is low to moderate—the combined energy of all swells sits between 138 and 347 (moderate) across the period, but it never translates into quality. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual.
The pattern is grim from the start. Wednesday the 19th through the end of the month, it’s all poor surf ratings. Mornings might look clean on the surface, but the swell is under 6 ft, period is short (6 to 7 seconds), and the direction is wrong. Afternoons turn choppy. There’s no standout day. Even the biggest swell on Tuesday the 25th hits 6 ft, but it’s from the E with a short period, and the wind is cross-off in the morning then cross-onshore in the afternoon—so it’s a mess.
Into the first week of September, the trend doesn’t lift. Monday the 1st through Thursday the 3rd, it’s the same story: small, weak, short-period ENE swell, and the wind stays cross or cross-shore. The energy stays weak to moderate (161 to 206). Nothing to get excited about.
Honestly, this is a stretch with no real recommendation. If you’re a paddle surfer, you’re better off waiting for a change in the pattern. The setup here—cross-offshore winds, short period swell, and a beach-and-reef break—looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing right now. Forecasts can shift, but for now, it’s a blank run.
Rusty.
